《Lost Things》Chapter V: Same Problem

You should be more careful—was something Virgil had always heard, ever since he was still a rowdy child. But as he grew, each of his mistakes was accompanied by harsher disappointments.
And if he's being honest, he wasn’t any good at dealing with disappointment, even now. Even if Carson didn't scold him like his family, the sense of failure still weighed inside his mind. Sure, all the mistakes were his own fault—but it sure was draining, being reminded that he would eventually mess up somehow.
As Virgil kept the rest of bandages back in the shelf, he wondered. If he were to accidentally cut Carson's eye instead of his face, Carson wouldn't have to face the same thing as Virgil. Family, aspirations, and so on—Carson lived a different life from him. But knowing that he would be the one who made Carson lost his eye, he couldn't help but to worry about the thought—
"Virgil?" As Carson snapped Virgil from a mess of his thoughts, he had a glass full of water in his hand.
"What's wrong?"
"Just drink this."
Carson shoved the glass in Virgil's hand. With a filled glass in his hand, Virgil could've ended up dropping this glass at any moment. But Carson didn't seem to be bothered by that possibility—not at the slightest.
When Virgil caught Carson staring at him, he finally realized he had to drink it. Knowing Carson, he probably hadn't gotten used to this side of Virgil. This would be the first time Carson had seen this side of Virgil, wouldn't it?
"Hmm..." Carson's eyes remained on Virgil. It sure didn't feel any reassuring, being stared at.
"What is it?"
Carson shut his eyes, as if he was deep in thought. But moments later, he opened his eyes again. "You mind if I go to Ace's place?"

"Oh, not at all. Is he home?"
"Eh, no idea." Carson stood up. "But I'll figure out."
Virgil nodded as Carson headed outside. It's been a while since they had seen Ace, so this could be a good change of pace for Carson. And for Virgil, he finally had some time to himself. And since John would be late at home, Virgil might as well contact with his family, again.
As days passed, Virgil hadn't practiced charms since then. And with the letter he got from his family, he was basically told to put work first—and so he did.
And he received another letter from John, stating he would be gone for a month because of his family business.
Now that John was away and Carson was hanging out with Ace, he might as well use this weekend to practice charms again.
But as Virgil was reviewing the chants from the book while having the clothes laid down on the floor, Carson and Ace arrived at the house.
"Ace bought you some snacks," Carson said, as Ace handed a paper bag to Virgil.
"Ah, thanks. It's been a while since I've seen you. How's the work going?"
"Good." Ace's uncharacteristically bothered expression said otherwise, unlike his usual stoic expression—as he took a glance inside Virgil's house. "Were you practicing charms?"
"Mhm, I'll go clea—"
As Virgil was about to head inside, Ace grabbed his arm. "Follow me. I know a place for that."
"Where?"
"Ironport's tower. I have the key."
With anything he recalled about the Ironport's tower—it was known as the alchemist's tower, with only a few families being able to access the place. And he had no clue on what kind of connections did Ace have, let alone ever knowing Ace as an alchemist or anything similar.

College Construction: My Principal System
Fang Yuan traveled through a parallel world and inherited the private high school founded by his late grandfather, Yun Ding High School. Due to its consistent ranking as the worst high school in Jingcheng City throughout the year, its qualification to be allowed to run as a school would soon be canceled. Fortunately, for Fang Yuan, the universe activated the Strongest Principal System. As long as the school gained prestige, it could establish buildings, summon famous talents, and redeem various God-level rewards. From the founding of the main teaching building to improving the efficiency of learning; constructing a library, improving overall intelligence, constructing a well-equipped hospital as well as ensuring health and safety standards are followed…the Strongest Principal System made everything possible. In addition, the System provided a concert hall, art gallery, a lake garden, an observatory, a cafeteria with five-star cuisine as well. However, this was not all, the System even allowed Fang Yuan to summon world-famous talents from parallel worlds to teach his students. He could summon Shakespeare to teach Literature, Gauss to teach Mathematics, Einstein for Physics, Curie for Chemistry, Darwin for Biology, and Nightingale for medicine. He could also summon Beethoven to teach music, Van Gogh for art, Spielberg for film, and Messi for football! Thus, a formidable high school that would shock the world was born. Students would go forth to win Nobel Prizes, Olympic Medals and break world records in all the manner of categories. Countless Hollywood celebrities and Silicon Valley geniuses would be produced by the school. “Bitcoin? Oh, you mean our IT Department teacher, Satoshi Nakamoto’s little experiment?” Even students from prestigious institutions such as Harvard, Cambridge, and Oxford would cry about wanting to attend Yun Ding High School.

8 178A World With or Without Aliens
Nothing matters. It's not my opinion, it's a scientific fact. This is neither good nor bad, it just... is. I watched my entire country burn, fried on a patriotic pan after some jerk fired a bunch of nukes at the docile fleet of alien ships hovering over us. Who gave this moron such power? I don't know. Everyone involved is most likely dead by now. As for me, I can't die. I feel pain like a normal person would (I think), but no matter how terrible the conditions, I will never die or pass out. Fortunately, a lot of alien technology survived its crash to Earth, so I get to spend some time playing with it until Mr. Author gets bored and decides to screw up my life. Beware, this has a "harem" tag. If you haven't figured it out yet, I'm the main character and am therefore subject to this novel's timeline. While this bars me from the sweet ignorance of Chapter 1's me, it does have other perks... for example, I can tell you that heroine number one is personally responsible for kil-!? H-hey, back off! I'm your character, so if you didn't want me to be like this, then you should've written me differently! Randomguy here! In all seriousness, this novel is meant to explore the concept of nihilism as a post-apocalyptic/supernatural-scifi/satire told from a nihilistic introvert's first-person perspective. As you heard from my unsettled main character, each heroine is going to be a different type of horrifying socio/psychopath with dark motives and dangerous abilities (most of which are psychological). Why would I do something like this? Because I am, in reality, a nihilist who is often frustrated by weird things, like unrealistically dramatic stories, the industrialization of art (specifically music), and people who think swimming in brown creekwater for five hours is a "fun" activity. Don't get me wrong, neither me nor my character are depressed, we're just malcontents who make a lot of nerd references. I feel like the true essence of an "everything is worthless" perspective is lost on most pop-culture figures. The closest character I can think of at the moment is Rick from Rick and Morty, who is a drunk, angry nihilist that experienced tremendous loss. I, personally, find this belligerent state of mind to be very relatable, and have incorperated it into every chapter's introduction. Here, the main character talks directly to the reader (and me), shamelessly complaining about some semi-relevant facet of society, which probably doesn't make much sense... it's not really supposed to, though. These "angry nihilist" moments are just a peak into the main character's everyday existence, and also act as miniature rage-journals for me. It will sometimes take a subjectively 'positive' turn, but not very often. This is because reality isn't good or bad, "it just... is". I will eventually bring it full-circle to optimistic nihilism, since that seems to be a more practical way to live (and by "practical", I mean "doesn't create mental health issues"). It is, of course, a satire. I did this because most unnecessarily emotional moments or people usually make me feel kind of awkward, so I decided to mock them. That is, I plan to mock the characteristics about them I don't like in characters based solely off said characteristics. Thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoy my story!
