《HEIR OF LIGHT》CHAPTER 7

The word still rang in his head,
"Blood bonded",
It had almost been a minute since he heard those words, aether knows he was seriously confused. Daren sat by the tree trunk with a very calm look, jason turned to terra,
"It's a long story, the short version was that we were young and stupid, we did a stupid thing and it bonded us together" she rushed,
His voice hung in my throat, after a while he talked,
"How close is the bond?" He asked,
"I can feel what you feel and hear your thoughts if you want, to sum it all I'm meant to be your other half" she said,
Jason raked his hand through his hair exhaling, that was what illummino and the rest couldn't say, now he saw why. She was his....mate?,
No, that's sounds animalic, he thought,
A thought clicked in his head,
"How's that possible?, I've never been in aratia my whole life!" He said,
"You came here once, maybe your aunt took that memory away, but you found your way here" daren said,
Jason looked at terra, she had a guilty look on her face, like she felt he would blame her or something. That's the reason she never went out with other boys, he felt a pang of guilt himself,
"Is that the reason you never went out on a date?" He asked,
She nodded in reply, I immediately felt guilty for real,
"I'm sorry, i didn't know I caused you a lot of pain " he said,
She opened her mouth to talk but shut it back up, what had she wanted to say?,
***
Spitting the truth hurt like hell, she saw his expression go from blank to shocked, a big side of her blamed it on her stupidity. If she hadn't been that dull enough to go near that place talk less of touching the relics,

"Is that the reason you never went on dates?" He asked,
No, I just couldn't bring myself to, not after you, she thought,
She nodded immediately to not raise any suspicions, she caught daren with a side look, he seemed quiet and stared hard at her,
Then he said he was sorry he'd caused her a lot of pain, she wanted to grab him there and kiss him badly, finally she admitted she loved him,
a reply would be good she thought as she wanted to talk but only opened and shut her mouth, what could she say,
*
He looked at her blank expression an felt a draw to her, this had never happened till now, even when they entered aratia, was the magic causing so much feelings?,
"So, you said it comes with a mind reading package, how does it work?" He asked trying to clear his clouded thought,
" it only works when you're on a serious emotional turmoil, like when you're angry or sad or very happy" she replied,
He nodded in response,
"However since I'm an elemental, I could be able to make it stable, make it work anytime.....that's if you want" she rushed,
"What's an elemental?"jasonI asked,
"They're creatures that control one of the four elements, she's an exception, she controls two" daren said speaking from the trunk of the tree that he sat for a long time, how long had he been watching them silently?,
"Normally, an elemental control an element, but since that...incident, I could use two" terra said giving daren a glare, they were back to normal.
"Okay, for the main time I think it would be good if we could be connected, it would help keep track if we're on the run or something" he said,

She nodded and moved forward, her hands went on fire, he jumped back in fright,
"Hell NO!!, what'd you want to do?, scalp me or something" I shouted,
Daren laughed till he rolled in the ground,
Yeah funny, you're not the one with a chick on fire at you
She smiled, somehow it warmed me,
Wait a minute, is that part of the side effects of the bond cause its driving me crazy!, he thought to himself,
she was a girl that I kept in this circumstance, I shouldn't feel warm for her smiles!,
"I control the flames jason, it won't burn, it's my only connection to you since I got it from the bond" she said,
Somehow, he believed what she said, like it was the only thing that mattered, he sighed in reluctance, this bond thing was really getting to him.
He nodded and stepped forward, she came closer and he could feel the heat from the flames, they weren't burning him, they sent warmth down His body, something he hadn't felt in a long time,
"Close your eyes and let your mind free" she said,
"Hope I'm not going to have to see any of your...you know, private thoughts?" He asked,
"No, nothing. You won't see a thing" she replied,
With that said, he closed his eyes and let himself free, he didn't have anything to hide...well only about his first thoughts of her but it was a long time ago so she shouldn't get angry.
***†**
She felt her hands moving towards his face, it felt alluring, like she wanted to hold on but not let go and at once she scolded herself, it wasn't right, he drew back with a pang of disappointment brewing in her, he asked if he won't see her private thoughts, she said no, which was half true, he won't see hers but she would see his.
He came closer as she touched him and was immediately drawn into his mind,

Shaman
*** Let's get this clear now: the MC is a trans woman. This is not a gender-bender. It's set in a fantasy world but the exploration of identity and gender is reality-based. Not a joke, not a kinky turn-on. If this is a problem for you, please just act like an adult and look elsewhere for something to read. *** Rating breakdown, since that should be public info: 2 x 5*, 1 x 4.5*, 1 x 3*, no reasons offered. A human shaman and healer returns from several years with the mysterious shyani, accompanied by her shapeshifting puma best friend. A valued friend, from her previous identity as a male student physician, has acquired an old shyani book, and extremists will not tolerate its presence in human hands. But back in human lands, the question arises: which world does she belong in? Generations ago, human explorers found a continent inhabited by an utterly alien culture of shapeshifting weyres and the shyani, humanoids who prefer dusk and dawn. A truce of sorts was eventually reached: humans claimed the rich lowlands, and the shyani and weyres retain the highlands. Along the border, practicality often rules, but on either side, old grudges linger in some hearts. As a student physician, Corin tried to take his own life, unable to bear the countless tiny wounds inflicted over twenty-one years of lying to himself in order to be, or pretend to be, socially acceptable. At the last improbable instant, intervention came, in the form of a spirit fox, who led him away from the existence he’d known in the lowlands and into the highlands. There, a puma weyre rescued him, and a shyani shaman helped him find his true self and offered a rebirth, a life with no more lies, and an important role to fill. Now a shaman and healer in her own right, Vixen who was once Corin learns that the one human who mattered to her in her previous life, then a fellow University student, has come into possession of an old shyani book, and the more fanatical shyani and weyres will stop at nothing to reclaim it and punish Jared. Even though it means going back into the lowlands and facing Jared as a woman, she can’t bear to just look the other way. This should be a short visit, just long enough to see the book into the proper hands and make sure Jared will not be killed for having it, and then she can return to the shyani community that has accepted her as their shaman. And, of course, her feline best friend Dayr insists on coming with her. But Jared is now a Lord, with considerable wealth and power, and his response to her presence isn’t one she expected. After years living with the shyani, she sees everything around her from a new perspective, and that makes it difficult to keep to the plan of making as few waves as possible. As an honoured guest in a highborn house, with only Jared aware that she has ever been anyone else, Vixen finds herself questioning where she belongs: with Dayr and the shyani, who accept her gender without question but have to make allowances for her differences, or with humans, in the culture she grew up in even though her past would mean a major scandal? *** Trigger warning: there are scenes of Vixen's previous life, which include some difficult moments and culminate in an (obviously unsuccessful) attempt at suicide before she finds her true self and a better life. Please be careful! This is the ONLY reason for the "Traumatising Content" tag.*** Complete stand-alone novel, 96K words. Also available on Scribble Hub and as a free ebook.
