“where is she? Where’s my daughter? Sweetheart are you okay?” Ernest Thompson rushed into the hospital ward worried about his daughter, “I came as soon as heard” “its alright dad, I’m okay I swear the doctors said I’ll be good to go in a few days.” Michelle began to explain to her dad in an attempt to calm him down, Ernest let out a sigh of relief hearing what his daughter said but soon regained his former look, “why were you out there in the first place? You were supposed to be preparing for a meeting later in the afternoon so how were you out there in the first place?”
Michelle went silent as she heard her father’s question sending a few looks towards Hank who was silently standing in the corner all this while, her father followed her look and saw Hank and gave him a questioning look. Hank hesitated for a moment then told him why she was out there, “so this was your fault” were the only words to come out of Ernest’s mouth.
“Dad..” Michele tried to stop her dad but was shut down with one look from him, “you’ve been back weeks now and the first time you hang out with my daughter she gets shot… you know I think it’s time you left.” Hank looks Ernest in the eye trying to say something but the only thing he can say is “sorry” he then turns to leave, Michelle watches him leave whilst biting her lips.
…..
Hank now in full vigilante gear appears at the building where he last saw the sniper and begins to search the place looking for evidence of anything but he notices a bullet shell placed right on the ledge, it was placed right in plain sight as though the sniper wanted someone to find it.

Hank walked towards it and picked it up, bringing it closer to his mask so as to have a closer look. After a close look he was sure about something that whoever did this left it as some sort of calling card as it was unique a custom shell casing and who goes through so much trouble if not to use it as a calling card.
Hank looked across the ledge towards where Michelle got shot before grasping the shell casing tighter.
….
“Michelle oh my god! Are you alright!” Naa rushed into Michelle’s ward her worry clear on her face. “It’s alright Naa I’m fine the doctors just said I should rest and I’ll be good to go in a day or two.” Naa let out a visible sigh of relief hearing what Michelle said, “that’s good and don’t worry I’m going to do everything to get this guy okay.” “I believe you” Michelle put on a smile, happy seeing how much her friend cared for her. Naa put on a smile as well seeing her friend smiling, “oh yeah, that reminds me where is Hank he was with you wasn’t he?”
Michelle was silent for a moment, Naa seeing her friend’s expression began to panic, “what, did something happen? They said he was okay…” “he is fine, nothing happened to him he brought me in” Naa calmed down hearing what Michelle said, “thank god, you had me there for a second. So where is he exactly.” Michelle began to explain what had happened between Hank and her father.
After listening to Michelle, Naa had finally got why Michelle was down. “don’t worry about it, your dad was just a bit angry and I’m sure Hank feels a bit guilty but they’ll definitely sort it out. It’s like my dad always use to say, “it’s not a family if there isn’t a fight once in a while but what truly makes it a family is the fact they always get back together after a fight.”

“yeah… your right.”
……
“I was in the midst of something Ernest, so this better be important.” The masked lady walked out of the shadows at their meeting spot her, her tone sowing her clear annoyance at being called to meet. “My daughter was shot!” Ernest spoke out causing the masked lady to tilt her head she had never before seen Ernest this angry. “Some bastard out there had the guts; he had the bloody god damned f**king audacity! to attempt to assassinate my daughter, I want the one who ordered the hit and the one who pulled the trigger dead, no in fact I want them to suffer I want them to beg for death then if I will it, then they can die.”
The masked lady stood there quietly watching him, she knew he was a cruel man that was one of the reasons she decided to work with him but now she wondered just how cruel was he exactly, she stared into his eyes which had turned red with rage.
In the slums.
A group of guys were gathered before a building discussing with one another with some even breaking out into laughter. A guy began approaching them, he was dressed simply with a black t-shirt and blue jeans with a black cap pulled down hiding part of his face causing all their discussions to come to an end one of them moved to stop him “who are you?” “it’s okay I know him.” A voice came from behind dispersing them all but they still kept their eyes on the stranger.
The owner of the voice came up to the stranger, “hello old friend.” The stranger rose his head up but with a closer look one can tell this is none other than Hank Thompson himself. “its been a while Adjetey” “it truly has been Kwadjo” Adjetey referred to Hank by his alias.
“So I wonder what brings you over to my humble abode Kwadjo?” Hank pulls out the bullet casing he retrieved earlier that day “I need to find out who this belongs to."

Witchbone: The Goblins Winter
Themes found in these stories include friendship, found family, defying negative expectations, trying to figure out how to be a force for good in your corner of the world, doing heroic things even if you don't look or feel like a hero, and that being different isn't necessarily fatal. Summary: A spell of arctic weather. A mysterious death. The reading of a will. Strange tracks in the snow. Eleven-year-old Danny Hallow accepts his life, such as it is. His father is dead, his mother left years ago. His three Keepers are the only people aware of Danny's erratic and not-very-impressive psychic abilities. He has no friends, he's been suspended from school, and he's responsible for the life of a small brown bat that's ended up in his care. When Danny's estranged Uncle Enoch dies under mysterious circumstances, he and his Keepers are called to the town of Eddystone, New Hampshire for the reading of the man's will. Traveling four hundred miles from his dreaded hometown to attend, Danny is happy to get away, possibly inherit something interesting- and maybe find out more about his family while he's there. Arriving at the crumbling family estate of Gnomewood Home, he finds it to be hauntingly familiar, a bit creepy, oddly comforting, and possibly alive. When his uncle's will reveals that he's inherited Gnomewood and everything in it, he's determined to stay and make a happier life for himself in Eddystone, somehow. But at Gnomewood, he finds more questions than answers to his family's secrets. Disturbing old memories come to him in dreams. His psychic abilities begin to grow stronger, and as a result he becomes aware that a horde of cryptic creatures are plaguing the town of Eddystone, seemingly drawn out by the spell of an unusually frigid February. Toothy little goblins that are sneaky, vicious, and hungry. Goblins that take a particular interest in Danny. Will the emergence of the alien, and potentially dangerous, power he's inherited from his peculiar family tree help Danny survive the goblin infested winter, inadvisable attempts to befriend a terrifying boy with silver eyes, and a new school? Only if he learns to control them before they put him and everyone around him in danger. Before they convince some people that he should never have been allowed to exist at all. Before he becomes just another twisted tale in his family's bizarre history, kept hidden for centuries within the ivy-covered walls of Gnomewood Home.
