A BIT OF HISTORY

The peaceful era

Once upon a time, the prairies and forests of the east were home to probably the most peaceful people on the continent. Wars between tribes were settled by duels between their chiefs. After the death of their leader, the losing tribe had to swear allegiance to the victorious chief and join his tribe. The secret that made the system work was that, if a chief died on the sidelines of a duel, his followers were free again and did not have to follow the new chief that emerged, for that new leader had not earned them.

Humiliation

Back in the second century, Mohad invaded the lands of the Thousand Kingdoms without any difficulty thanks to technical superiority. With swords and armor, they managed to conquer and subdue all the peoples of the Thousand Kingdoms. Thus, Mohad brought paper to these lands and introduced writing. They invested in advances in the irrigation system and taught the locals to make better weapons. They also greatly improved river navigation.

Rebellion

There were always rebels during the era of Mohadi rule, but they were marginal, as the advances and prosperity brought by the desert people made the rule more than bearable. The turning point was the rebels' discovery of seigniorage. The insurrectionists demonstrated that the shields, the coins imposed on them, weighed less and less than their nominal value. Claiming that they were being played for fools, the message of outrage spread through the Thousand Kingdoms like an epidemic and the Mohadis were expelled.

The present era

From then on, the territory was divided into hundreds of pieces of land claimed by hundreds of kings from every corner. Kings who acceded to the throne faced the other pretenders in their own lands, and the enemy kings eager to expand their dominions. To top it off, the currency in use is still the shield, which belongs to Mohad.
