I woke up in a field of grass. The last thing I remember was getting shot and dying in the middle of a fight. I sit up looking around, trying to recognize the landscape. There was a village at the end of the field. If I go there, I could get a clue on where I am. It looks like they are having a bonfire or something, because there is a huge trail of smoke going up. As I got closer, I cloud here yelling. A man ran towards me, And I asked if there was a fire. "Turn around, run! Come, run!" The man grabbed my arm and started to run again. I pulled my arm away, but he kept going. I look back at the village to see a dark figure standing in the shadows of one of the house's. It looked at me for a while, and I it. It most have heard something inside of the house, because it turned away from me and looked at the wall. It began to walk around until it found the door. Who ever was in there was probably going to be killed. I did not stand and watch. I ran to the house as fast as I could, but not fast enough. The thing go inside. I looked in a window to see the creature holding up a man by the neck, and a woman holding a baby. As I was distracted, I was suddenly thrown of my feet into a wall. Another one of those creatures started walking for me. It reminded me of something I've seen before, but I don't remember what. Just before it got to me, I saw the creature inside the house kill the man, and went for the woman and child. I got up as fast as I could, but got pushed back down. The woman began to scream at the creature. By my surprise when she screamed, the creature got thrown out the house and threw the wall I was at. The other creature with me turned to her and screeched so loud my ears began to ring. It began to walk inside. I got up and tackled it at the doorway. It picked me up with one hand holding my arms up. I try to break free, but could not. The creature placed a finger onto my neck, pushing it nail onto my skin. I look over to the woman telling her to go without words. She got up and stopped at the door. What she did next is not what most would do, because of what happens. She proceeded to draw her knife and stabbed the creature in the back. Which did not help me or her. The creature got startled and its nail slashed my throat and dropped me. Gasping and chocking on my blood, I see the creature turn and kill her. Her dagger landed right in front of me when she fell. The creature reached for the child, but I would not let it kill him too. I quickly grab the dagger and stab it in the back of the neck. It fell on its knees, trying to reach back and grab me. Just before it died, it tried to get the child again, but I pulled the dagger out and push it into the back of its head. Its arm fell and so did I. A woman ran by, but I reached and grabbed her arm. I pointed to the child, and she picked him up, but before she could look back at me, my eyes already closed. "Open your eyes." a voice said...

Just because it can be found, doesn't mean it should. All things found, all things fixed. Jude Demarco was the best private detective Nicodemia Station had ever ignored. Detective, handyman, medic. He was a bulldog who tracked down every lead and wouldn't let go until the bloody truth died dripping in his jaws. Even if someone got hurt. Even if someone got killed. You lost it? He can find it. When a collector arrives in a private cruiser from Earth looking for a stolen painting, Demarco has to decide if a few dimes are worth dealing with the worst of the worst in Nicodemia Station. It'll pit him against crime lords, government bureaucrats, and, even worse, the Catholic Church. If there's anything folks get too passionate about, it's art and religion. No sane person would take a job that mixed the two. Then again, sometimes a person just gets desperate.
