《Dark Slate》Chapter 6: Past Mistake
Advertisement
It's been about 6 to 7 months since i started training with Leon along with my healing magic and Hanna's magic. I can now heal exhaustion and sore muscles perfectly without wasting a lot of time or mana.
After some time of healing the guys at the woods it got to easy for me. So i went around looking for more workers to heal, Like farmers. I also healed cuts and bruises from time to time when there was an accident.
I've also improved on my swordsmanship i haven't achieved internal mana control but i'll keep going. With every day training with Leon i feel like i can do it.
Every morning i do 500 practice swings and after that i do defensive stances to better my balance and posture. Then me and Leon start sparring with wooden swords.
At first he wouldn't hit me physically with it. It was like he aimed for my sword. but after a month or two he started aiming for my body while i tried defending it. sometimes when i missed he would end up hitting me in a vital spot. And it hurt like hell. Coming from another world i'm not used to feeling pain, so it would take me a little longer to recover or respond from another attack.
But after a while of being constantly beaten i kind of got used to it and now i am able to respond quicker after being hit. Plus i can heal myself if i do get seriously hurt.
That brings me to the present. I've just finished the practice swings and stances, now it's time for the sparring to begin.
As we were standing across from each other i realized something. I've never landed a hit on Leon. He can control mana inside his body and he has more experience. Which means he's way above me. The only way to land a hit is to make an opening or catch him off guard.
We got ready.
"Here i come." He said.
He charged straight at me. His sword coming diagonally down, straight for my neck.
I moved to the side and swung my sword the opposite way as hard as i could, to try to launch his sword back and throw off his balance.
Instead we locked swords. We stayed that way for a few seconds while i tried to overpower him. Then i pulled back.
He followed after me with a low strike this time. Probably going for my leg. I jumped and swung straight down. He quickly blocked.
i threw a kick and he blocked it with his arm. Once i landed on the ground he punched me in the stomach. I pulled back again and used healing magic to numb the pain.
He didn't follow this time.
As i was thinking of how to land a hit I decided to try something new. I covered my sword in wind magic, hoping to throw him back with high speed winds.
Every time we sparred i only used healing magic on myself. I never thought to use fire or wind because i thought it was going to hinder my progress, and i didn't want to rely too much on mana while fighting with the sword.
But maybe i'm wrong. In a real fight i need to use everything i have to my advantage. I've been treating this as training only. So if i view this in a different way, and treat it as a real fight. Will i be able to overcome my limits and achieve what i want.
I charged in this time, but he swung first. Straight down as if to split my head in half.

I swung up with the wind giving me more speed. Before Leon could finish his strike i was already on him.
Compressing wind magic at the edge of the wooden blade i let it burst out all at once at the moment of impact. Which created a small shockwave that blew him back and knocked him off balance. His face went from serious to surprised. That was my opening to strike, but the shockwave blew him out of my range.
I need to close the gap between us fast. If i don't do this now it'll be difficult to catch him by surprise again. if I move too slow he'll notice, So i need to do this quickly.
Then i felt a rush of mana moving through the inside of my body to my legs. I took a step. That single step closed the small distance between us, and now he was within my range.
I felt the same rush of mana go through my arms as i swung my sword and hit him at the side of his stomach.
At the same moment that i hit him i made another shockwave that blew him away. He went crashing into the ground making a small trail and a dirt fog.
"ugghh." He groaned while trying to get up. Once the dirt fog cleared up i stared at him. His face was full of surprise and disbelief.
"I did it!" I said happily.
"Yeah. I guess you did." He tried to stand up straight but immediately crouched back down in pain. "did you have to hit me so hard?" He smirked.
"Well. . . Sorry. I'll heal you." I said making my way to him and using healing magic to heal the wound.
"better?"
"yup i feel fine now." He sighed "You're really talented, you know that." He said proudly with a hint of envy. "The first time i used mana internally was when i was a teen adventuring in the Canavar Plains. And the way you shaped your wind magic with your sword. That's not easy to do."
"um i guess, but you're giving me too much credit. I'm not that talented." i said. I didn't know that shaping mana with a sword was difficult to do. I only did it to create an opening so i didn't give it much thought.
"No really, i wish i had as much talent as you back when i was a kid." He paused. "Maybe then i could've been acknowledged by my father."
"Your father. Who is he exactly?" i asked.
"He is the head of the Arumani house, one of the three highest noble houses in Iradale." He said. "he owns a big mansion and that's were i was raised along side my brothers.
Well that explains the fancy names. "how many brothers do you have?"
"three." he said "An older, a younger, and a twin."
"so if we're part of this 'High noble' family why do we live in this small little village?"
"ahh well. I kind of caused an accident with the other two high noble houses."
i sighed "what did you do?"
"Our house along with several other noble houses were invited to a ceremony that the Royal family holds every few years in order to get acquainted, and show off new offsprings and potential heirs to the families.
Two guys from the high noble houses were talking bad about me. So i thought that if i stood up for myself my father would see me as a reliable person. I had the right idea but the wrong method. Once they turned their back to me i attacked them.

that started a whole show. Our whole family got involved, and the houses were about to declare war on us. So my father sent me and my brothers away to lie low for sometime, while he sorted out this problem."
"why do you want to get your father's attention?" I asked
"I was always looked down upon more than my brothers. Probably because there was nothing special about me, I was always slow in everything i did, and my brothers were way ahead of me. I didn't fit in with my family so i wanted to find something i was good at.
Since i was little i have always loved the sword. Of course my brothers were better than me at the time, but i still liked it. When i was 15 i went to sign up in the adventurer's guild and joined a party. I wanted to get experience by killing magic beasts, and get better at using the sword. That's were i met your mom. we were in the same party and fell in love.
But i did get one thing over them. I am the only one of my brothers who was able to manipulate mana inside my body. And with that every time we practiced together with the sword or hand to hand i always overpowered them. It felt good to achieve something they didn't. After a while they stopped trying to beat me in a duel. They stopped looking down on me.
I was planning on joining the military of Iradale and climb my way up the ranks to a swordmaster, so that i could be looked up to. But i messed it all up. Once a failure always a failure. I don't know why i wanted my father's attention, but i don't feel the same anymore. I just want to get better at the sword."
"will you go back to him?" I asked.
"That is the plan. He'll call us when he feels that it's time, and i'm taking you all with me. But if he decides to leave me here, i understand why." he paused and looked at me and laughed. "what am i doing telling all this to a little kid."
"well sometimes it feels better to dump off your load and say what's on your mind to people like me, you know."
"hmm. Yeah you're right. I do feel better. A lot better." He said
"i'm not good with words or replies. If someone is going through a hard time i'm not good at comforting them either. But i do like to listen to what people say. Just know that i'll listen."
he looked at me suspiciously. "Since when do you talk to people. You're only 5, and don't have any friends apart from your sisters."
"W-what. O-of course i have f-friends." I said stuttering. He's right apart from my sisters, farmers, and arborist I don't have any friends.
"Really. . . I'd love to meet them." He said still suspicious. "Invite this friend of yours over this afternoon."
"Yes of course i will." i said quickly.
"well let's continue training. Can you recreate what you did in our last duel."
"i'll try." Just like that we continued our training.
I was able to pick up on internal mana use quickly, maybe it's because i'm reincarnated. I can now use it at will, but i still need to practice it more because it takes me too long to channel the mana to an individual body part.
"well that's all for today. We'll continue tomorrow" He said. "don't forget to bring your friend." He added.
"I'm off to see them now. I'll definitely them to come over. Don't worry i won't forget." i said as i left.
hmm maybe i shouldn't have said that i had a friend. What am i going to do now. Maybe i'll tell him that i forgot to invite them. . . ahh i'll just go find a friend.
I started making my way out my house to the village to look for a friend.
I am now in the village but all the kids my age are with their parents, and the groups of friends going around don't look friendly i doubt i can just go up and talk to them. Plus i am over 30 years old now, and trying to make a friend that's 5 years old sounds crazy.
I can definitely pull it off because kids are simple, but who would be good? I can't just bring home some weirdo. Maybe the village isn't a good place. i'll go find houses like mine that are away from the village.
I continued making my way down the road. then it split into three different paths. One going straight, the other one left, and the last one right. I took the left path. I didn't bother thinking it over i just chose randomly.
As i made my way through the path i heard what sounded like little kids talking. I started walking faster towards the voices. until i was able to hear them clearer
"Eww look at her horns."
"Go back to where you came from, you demon."
"haha i hit her in the head. that's more points for me."
"ohh yeah, look at this shot."
When i got there i saw a little girl on the ground with her head down covering it with her hands. It almost looked like she was bowing. On the other side were a group of kids throwing rocks at her. I couldn't stand the sight, so i stepped in.
"Hey stop that can't you see your hurting her." i put myself between the girl and the kids. there were 4 in total.
"who the hell are you? Well it doesn't matter. You better get out of here before you end up like her." The oldest one spoke. He seemed to be the leader of this little group.
"I'm not going anywhere." i said
"Well i warned you." He looked back at the other kids "let's throw rocks at him."
All 4 of them started throwing rocks. but before they reached me i blew them away with wind magic.
All the kids had wide eyes and looked surprised "what was that." one of them said
"that was cheap trick." "come on let's go again." the older kid said.
And they all threw rocks at me. I blew them away again. Then i made a strong wind and directed it towards them, and they fell back from the force. then i extended my hand and made a fireball and pointed it towards them. They were terrified at this point.
"Get out of here." i said coldly.
Then they ran off.
I looked back only to find that the girl was looking straight at me. Her face stained with blood and faint traces of bruises. She had dark purple hair that didn't go past her shoulders, and big bright yellow eyes. But what stood out the most was the Two small black horns sticking out of her forehead.
