《Legacy of Earth》Chapter 22 – Londinium

A temporary ceasefire was held between the Greater Ariesian Sovereign and the Neo Galilean Principality. However, this ceasefire also means that they will have control over the territory that they have acquired over the last year since the war began. A News broadcast aired on a nearby screen for many pedestrians to see and learn as it showed images of many Sovereign and Principality ships withdrawing from various battle zones.
Meanwhile, an interplanetary summit is going to be held in regards to not only the Sovereign interfering with the Civil War and the Principality purchasing Solar-powered weapons but also the war in general. The newscaster said as they showed images of the Civil war and the destruction of Vasi Sakti. Tune in for later as we currently discuss The Memento Mori and their speculated goals and the mysteries held by the Terra Eternal.
Alon sat down by the bench as he ate a sandwich while waiting for Marina. With the members of the Memento Mori are scattered in the wider Galaxy until they can settle for another mission and so for the time being the two settled under hidden names. And so here they are in the Space Colony Londinium located near Mars under the names of Lyle Drake, whom he had to dye his hair dirty blond, and Anew Drake, who had to dye her hair black and wore thick glasses. They would assume the role of a young couple that recently moved into Londinium.
One thing to note is that Londinium is designed to be a massive cylindrical-shaped Space Colony with the interior circular hence why if one were to look up one can see the other side of the colony. A sight that never fails to amaze Alon as he just sat on his bench and watched the other side of the colony from above.
Another thing about the Space Colonies was it's a near paradise, not a sign of the war can be seen here as many would go about living day by day. It helps that the Colonies as a whole formed the Voyager Treaty which is a collective agreement that all Colonies regardless of whether or not they are within a certain territory must remain neutral.
"Alon?" His blood ran cold and he looked up to a young woman with light grey eyes and dirty blond hair done in curls while dressed in the formal wear of the Sovereign Army.
"I'm sorry you must have mistaken me for someone else, my name is Lyle Drake." Alon lied, he and Marina knew her in the past. Her name was Lena, was an old friend of Alon and Marina, well Old friend was an understatement as she harboured romantic feelings for him something that created tensions between her and Marina despite being fully aware of the fact they aren't blood-related.
"Oh," Her shoulders slumped as she had a somewhat dejected look on her face, it was better after all especially now that she is a soldier for the Sovereign which could blow their cover. Not to mention Marina would get upset knowing she's here.
"My apologies, I have mistaken you for someone I know." She apologized with a nod.
"It's fine, thank you for your contribution," Alon said the best he can do is get on a soldier's good side, even if he is already lying to her about his identity. But the compliment seemed to have an adverse effect as she visibly flinched from the compliment.

"Looks like you've seen something messed up when I said that," Alon commented which took her by surprise, he wasn't expecting to make such a comment. "Ah now it's my turn for me to apologize, it's not my place to make such a comment."
"No it's fine and you're right, I've seen some things," Lena said and then turned her eyes on the bench, namely the spot next to Alon. "May I sit down?"
"Of course," Alon said scooting to the side, this is a good chance to see the inner machinations of a Sovereign Soldier and learn some possible rumours in the future after all.
"I joined the Army hoping I get to see the Galaxy," She told him, of course, one of the things he and Lena got along was their shared love of exploring the wider galaxy. "But instead of some posting out there me and my friends got separated in be War. And since then I've lost contact with them. Meanwhile, I'm stuck at some research posting nearby."
"I'm sorry to hear about that," Alon said. He did hear more than once of Lena and her circle of friends wanting to see the Galaxy. Chances are, they're either dead or just suffering through severe trauma now.
"Then there's this other friend of mine," She continued. "He and his family just went up and vanished, we tried to look for them but the Authorities said they never existed in the first place."
So that's what happened to us there, the Orthos decided to just erase any records of us. Alon thought it made sense after all. They tried to help what is essentially a terrorist organisation that focuses more on anarchy than unification. Not to mention they also fought against them instead of appealing to their demands.
"The Sovereign Police sounds scarier than I thought," Alon commented, he then proceeded to tell her the cover story that he and Marina planned. That the two of them are a young couple hat lived around Saturn but their family opposed their relationship, which is ironic given how in real life their parents pretty much approved it, so they decided to elope and head for Londinium and begin again.
"Sounds romantic," Lena finally smiled. "I had feelings for this friend of mine but I knew I had no chance, he had inappropriate feelings for someone?"
Excuse me?
"Inappropriate?" Alon asked slightly confused.
"He has romantic feelings for someone he shouldn't have, everyone in our circle knew but neither one of them admitted it." She said with a sheepish laugh, he wanted to slap himself, was he and Marina that obvious? They tried their best to hide it after all. "I mean you can tell from the way they looked at one another."
She shook her head and stood up. "I'm sorry I have to go, thank you for hearing me out Mr Drake."
And with that she left, Alon sighed as he thought of their friends. It would make sense that they would be concerned after all one day Alon and Marina were having fun and a normal day with them and the next day they just straight up vanished without a trace.
I wonder how are they handling it now? Alon thought as from the corner of his eyes saw Marina walking towards him.
"Sorry am I late?" Marina asked as she was holding a bag of groceries.

"It's fine, I was busy admiring the skyline," Alon said as he looked at the place one last time but then proceeded to take the extra bags she had on her and the two headed home.
It had been days since all of them have been scattered across the stars and remained hidden and not a single contact from their specialized phones has gotten on their end, as a result, the two viewed this whole endeavour as a massive vacation for the two to enjoy.
"Sometimes, I think our stay here makes us think we're eloping." Marina giggled like an excited young girl. The same laugh she used to have before all of this. How long has it been since that day? Months? Year? Time flies when you're busy fighting for your life. Alon thought as the two continued their conversation about eloping.
"Do you remember what day is it?" Marina asked innocently but he can tell from the look in her eyes that she was expecting something. And then it clicked, come to think of it, today is that day.
"It's our anniversary isn't it," Alon smiled as she got into her tiptoes and kissed him on his cheek. He smiled as if it was those small and few things that she can always do to help cheer him up.
"That's right which is why I think we should—"
"Remember full well that our fate is to return to Earth! Our true home!" the two turned to find an elderly man holding a book as he stood atop a small box as he continued to preach.
"From Earth, we were made and to Earth we shall return, such is the way of the Terra Eternal!" He continued as he is surrounded by the people who listened to his sermon as he tapped on his book which showed the symbol of an eagle rising from the ashes.
"There's a lot of those people who listened to him," Marina commented.
"They're some kind of cult," Alon observed as the two stood and watched him continue the sermon around them. And then the Preacher explained how neither the Principality nor the Sovereign have no right to take over the galaxy and are nothing but usurpers, the Preacher then continued to explain that despite common belief Earth is still inhabitants and it is their divine right to retake the Solar System.
The safehouse they both stay in is a small seaside house located in front of a lake where at certain parts of the day it becomes clear enough that it reflects the skyline found miles away from the bustling city of Londinium. Alon and Marina sat down in the basement as they looked at the communicator that they were provided in case of new objectives.
Alon took a deep sigh as he held his sabre in one hand while holding Marina's hand with the other as she gingerly turned on the communicator, which lit up as it contained several screens containing the code names of the other members of the Memento Mori.
The communicator began to let out a series of long and short clicks, this was known as the language of the ancients a language that was long used in the early days of humanity but is now used by the Synthetic beasts. Tsuna had learned in the past allowing them to use this language as a means of communication due to how obsolete it has become.
New Objective, watch over the Summit. The communicator said. Rendezvous at the following coordinates.
The summit? Alon thought as he let out a tired sigh. Well, it would make sense they need to make sure the summit goes well as planned.
"You think if they end the war in that Summit we'd finally head home and start a new life?" Alon asked Marina. "No, forget it. That's going to be our end goal right now."
"Alon."
"I promise you," Alon said taking her hands. "When this is over, we're going to come back here in Londinium and start over."
Marina smiled as Alon kissed her on the forehead. "I promise you this."
[Legacy of Earth]
Despite being told to remain hidden, they were allowed to keep their respective mechs as a safety precaution, as such it wasn't difficult for them to leave Londinium so they can escape.
"It's too quiet," Alon said as they were still near the Space Colony.
"You skipped the first quiet," Marina joked causing Alon to smile a little.
It was true, that most neutral Colonies should have Ronins as a patrol to protect them from any potential outsiders. Alon was about to make another comment but their proximity alarm went off warning them of an incoming Mech flying in their general direction. And it was an all too familiar Mech.
"We meet again Serpent of Venus!" Said Liyab as his Zio-N flew close and drew a pair of Kinetic Katanas.
"For fuck's sake!" Alon said as he unloaded all of the weapons on the Zio-N, the Gun-Blade, the Vulcan Gun and the twin railguns in a hopeful attempt to shoot him down. But that did little as the Mech effortlessly dodged each shot as it was faster than before.
"Watch your fire! Those shots could hit the Colony." Marina warned him as they were still near Londinium.
"Your guns have little effect thanks to the improved boosters!" Liyab declared as the backpack of the Zio-N unfolded to reveal a pair of wings. "Behold the power of the Ikaros flight pack."
"We'll need to take him on Marina, Hold on!" Alon told Marina as Liyab flew close to Alon to strike him down but he quickly blocked it with the Kinetic Blade. Alon backed away and attempted to get away from Liyab but he was fast as he caught up with yet another slice at him.
"If I take off the limiters....no that's too risky," Alon muttered to himself as he continued to dodge each swing sent to him by Liyab.
"Alon we don't have time for this we need to get away!" Marina said as Alon continued to dance around the cuts that Liyab was ending to him. "You need to remove the limiters and get us out of here."
"Fuck it, hold on," Alon said removing the limiters once more. It was the second time he had done this and he is flying for two but he had left with no other choice. As soon as he pressed the last switch he proceeded to fly out, full blast away from Liyab who was shouting at him to come back and face him as Alon left behind a trail of light as he did.

Debut: the day every young gentleperson of age gathers to receive their Spirit Blessing and shift for the first time into their second form. Except for those who don't. Beatrice's worst fear is to be one of the unlucky few trapped perpetually in a human body, cut off from the magic of the spirits and unfit for any respectable pack or pride. But when the time comes to face her fear, the outcome is one she never could have imagined. Be warned, this story is some highly experimental fluff—an unapologetically girly, unrelentingly bisexual, Regency/Victorian-ish fantasy mish-mash. It does have a dark side, though, so don’t come in expecting all sunshine and roses. Worthy of note, given the reputation of shifter stories: there will be no explicit sex in this tale. There will, however, be lots of polyamorous romance, necromancy, portal magic, capricious spirits, elemental mages, an unconventional take on shifters and a highly ordered society built around their existence.
