《Legacy of Earth》Chapter 12 – ReZio

In terms of Lodging the Loyalists, which comprise the entire Wild Hunt and half the Istarian Army that sided with the current Matriarch, had repurposed a handful of five-star hotels within the city into a temporary barracks for all the soldiers to rest in. Luckily thanks to Ars and Dain, they were able to find themselves resting in one of the more luxurious rooms in the Hotels that were repurposed.
"You this it's kind of like we're on vacation," Marina said as they were eating breakfast in the rooms that they shared with Henri and Tsuna who had already headed downstairs to go and run some maintenance checks on the Mechs alongside Wu and the other Engineers. Dain was resting near the Headquarters with Hayato awaiting the Matriarch's response to their offer of joining them.
"I guess," Alon said who lacked the appetite to eat his share of food as he was still anxious about any possible attack in the next few hours. He felt his slightly calloused hand Marina touch his cheek causing him to look up at her who was worried for him.
"You've been out of it since yesterday, are you okay?" She told him, Alon just scoffed as there was no use hiding it now.
"Just a little shaken up with the realization that I'll have to kill again. I heard it gets better though so maybe I'll be fine I guess." Alon smiled as he pressed her hand closer to his face while giving it a reassuring squeeze.
"Don't push yourself too hard, you're not a fully trained soldier like they are." She said scooting closer and pressing her forehead against his. It was always her way of cheering him or comforting him when he was troubled.
"Just so you know, try not to get too clingy around me when we're at work," Alon said jokingly. "They don't know we're step siblings so you need to tone it down a bit. Cause I'm sure dating a step sibling even if our parents consented will not be viewed positively on other worlds."
"Ugh fine, but I just miss you." She said half pouting as she moved away as the news report for the day began playing on the Television causing both of them to watch.
We are currently under the state of Civil War, Matriarch Erys Zuhayir said, she was a woman in her thirties around the same age group as Hayato with pale blond hair that is now done in a formal bun and dark red eyes and wore an Officer Uniform of the Istarian Army. Alon initially expected she'd still be wearing formal attire but from the way, she's dressed he suspects that she is assisting the Loyalist Faction of the Army.
Matriarch Elector Ptolema Svortza and her Sisters of Peace have declared an open rebellion accompanied by several other states that have taken her side. But my stance is still the same, I will take the aid from neither the Sovereign, the Principality or any other Nation that has taken sides in their war. She added and without saying anything she left the podium and was escorted by the rest of her Guards. Interestingly, Ars can be seen within that group of Guards escorting her out of the small hall of the building she was making the announcement.
"I need to go," Alon said with Marina nodding reluctantly as he got up and left the room and made his way into the Elevator revealing an entire squad of Istarian Soldiers, which were mostly female, staring at him with a mixture of confusion and disgust. A common occurrence for him, Dain and Tsuna ever since they had arrived on the planet.

"I'm going to take the stairs," Alon sighed as he felt the hand of an Officer grab him by the shoulder.
"I need to have a word with you," An Istarian Officer said getting off the Elevator and gesturing for him to follow after her.
"I suppose sharing an elevator with Men is considered an offence or do men just take the Elevator when not accompanied by a Woman of higher rank?" Alon sarcastically asked.
"That tone of yours is enough to warrant a punch to the face." The Officer said as she took off her helmet revealing a woman his age with pale white hair and emerald eyes the two of them entered a stairway and made their way down. "But no I wish to discuss something important with you."
"If you wish to discuss things towards my organization, I suggest you take it up to my superiors as I'm just a soldier following orders," Alon said suspecting that she's going to talk to him about what right does Memento Mori have to get involved with their affairs. Or perhaps to even relay a message that they want nothing to do with them in the long run.
"Don't worry I'm not here to talk about politics I was looking for you." She said as the two of them stopped and pulled out a tablet and revealed a Mech plan, more specifically the Plans of the Zio. "You're the Current Pilot for this right?"
"Yes, why?" Alon asked though he suspects that she's either the designer for it or the designated pilot for this and thus likely wanted to have it back.
"My name is Filia Ziora, the developer of the Z-1 series Mechs that you not only hijacked but also demolished in one form or another." She said earning an awkward shuffle from Alon as he admittedly not only damaged the Zio but also turned a handful of Z13s into Scrap.
"Sorry about that," Alon apologized. "It must have been harrowing for you to have those destroyed in combat."
"On the Contrary Mr Naga, I'm grateful that you did." She smiled closing the plans as they continued their way to the ground floor where a Jeep was waiting for them. "The plans were to be used as a whole by the Istarian Military but the distribution of the Z-13s were sent to those who weren't so loyal to the Matriarch. And you not only used a Test Bed Mech and managed to demolish its predecessors allowed me to figure out the flaws of both suits."
"Well glad to know I helped," Alon smiled as he put on his helmet. But then he remembered something, the TH0-R. "Actually--"
"Oh, Martial and Ms Auditore informed me of your suggestion to have an auxiliary unit to the Zio, yes I was informed." She smiled as she showed him the copy of the TH0-R plans as they boarded the Jeep. "I'll admit it is an interesting concept to have an Auxiliary Unit to combine with the Zio however I'm afraid the Zio's current state is not yet capable of it. When I developed it, the Zio is meant for a flexible high mobility close quarters combat Mech. Having such a unit combined with the Zio would probably slow it down due to the weight of the weapon systems."
"Is there a way around it?"
"Give me some time to work on that but until then I have overhauled the Zio in favour of your combat preference based on the Combat Data," The Jeep stopped at a nearby hangar where many Mechs are being repaired and developed, and the two boarded off and followed inside where Alon saw rows of Z-13s that were painted with the colours of the Loyalist faction of the Matriarch and the Zio in one corner.

"Thanks to the efforts of the two mechanics, we were able to improve the Thrust system of the Zio and gave it a much more focused weapon system," She told him as she showed him the new plans of the Zio, now classified as ReZ-13 or the ReZio
The sensitivity this time had improved, allowing for a much-improved reaction time alongside additional thrusters while changing nothing to the armour plating of the Machine.
In terms of Armaments, it was now equipped with two arm mounted Kinetic Vulcans designed to shoot down any missiles, the Gunblade that was part of the TH0-R proposal features a Beam Magnum and a Kinetic Blade combined with the only drawback is that due to the energy output comes directly from the Mech, only ten shots are allowed Forcing Alon to rely on the Kinetic Blade.
Fortunately, it also came with two Beam sabres for additional combat benefit.
"What do you think?" She asked him as they looked at the ReZio. It was almost the same but where the Original Zio had the gunmetal grey colours, this was instead coloured Dark Blue and Aquamarine.
The colours or Memento Mori.
"Does this mean?"
"That's right," Filia smiled at him as they hopped on an elevator and made their way up to the cockpit and handed him a helmet. "From henceforth, Memento Mori is now allying with the Loyalists of Matriarch Erys Zuhayir. While not on Paper the Matriarch said that should you and the rest of the Memento Mori succeed in taking down the rebellion the Matriarch will wholeheartedly support your goal of ending the Greater War."
"I see but what of Fenrir and Suzaku? Do they also get their customized units?" Alon asked realizing that he had just been gifted a Personal Unit.
"Of course, my team is currently working their asses off to develop weapons and modifications for their own personal Z-13 Unit. In the Meantime—"
The entire hangar shook with Filia nearly falling to her death if not for Alon quickly catching her and preventing her from falling.
Rebel Forces have breached the surface defences! The Alarms rang out, Filia nodded at Alon as she handed him the helmet causing Alon to quickly climb into the Cockpit of the ReZio. "Alright then," Alon said as he connected his Gestalt Adapter into the Zio which conveniently had no backlash save for a minor nose bleed. "Let's take you out for a spin."
[Legacy of Earth]
True to what Filia had explained, the ReZio had much more sensitive controls allowing Alon to have a much wider range of movement which would improve his reaction time. The improved thrusters allowed him for an extended flight time for dog fighting.
As for the weapons, the Vulcans helped a lot in intercepting heavier Armaments such as Kinetic Missiles. Alon managed to use it to his best in throwing off enemy Mechs by aiming for the eyes allowing him to land a killing blow. The Gunblade however was perhaps the biggest improvement in his combat. While it would take at least three shots at best to take down an enemy Mech, the Kinetic Blade is sharp enough that it allows Alon to cut through enemies like a hot knife through butter that the two additional sabres were more of a formality. The result was that since the beginning of the battle. Alon had racked up a total of nine confirmed kills and a handful of assisted kills with the use of the range model of the Gunblade.
It's frightening how easily I can take them down, Alon thought reminding himself that inside each Mech he would cut, stab, or shoot, that a human is inside it. He sighed as he floated above the combat that was slowly turning in their favour.
A Proximity Alarm rang out behind him forcing him to quickly manoeuvre out of the way as a bolt of energy flew past him causing a small explosion from the ground.
Alon switched into the Gun mode and fired two shots back as he saw his opponent which was a modified Z-13 with a familiar orange colour scheme armed with a pair of Heavy Beam Rifles.
"I see you've upgraded your Z-13!" Liyab said almost excitedly as he sheathed the two rifles and pulled out a pair of Physical Kukris and swung at him in mid-air. "Good, it would be disappointed if I was battling you with a handicap!"
"I don't know if I should be touched or creeped out," Alon commented in genuine surprise as he began dodging the swing as he unfolded the blade. "Are you that bored in your job that you see me as some kind of Challenge?"
"Yes!" Liyab replied as he kicked Alon in mid-air which threw him off and pulled out the Rifles again. "Now cower before the power of my Zio-N!"
He then proceeded to open fire at Alon, while he wasn't able to determine any change that made Liyab's mech standout other than an improved set of weapons for now but thanks to his improved thrusters he was easily able to dodge it.
Now, perhaps because of the arrival of Liyab he was able to forget that he is in an active warzone and made him think his fight with Liyab is just a competitive match against someone which led to Alon making such a declaration.
"You may rely on firepower but my ReZio specializes in speed!" Alon said as he increased the speed that the g-forces had left Alon deeper into his seat as he closed the distance between him and Liyab locked blades with him as he pulled out the Physical Kukris again.
"Impressive, your manoeuvre methods are praiseworthy and would even make you worthy of an Ace title," Liyab replied causing Alon to smirk in excitement.
"No," Liyab pulled away and kept his eyes on him. "In my eyes, you are an Ace Tell me what is your Callsign? Mine is Aguila."
"Naga," Alon answered gripping his controls tightly anticipating his next move. "I'll remember yours, Aguila."
"Good, it would be awkward for you to forget mine now that I'll remember yours," Liyab said as he prepared to attack him again.
Alon wasted no time in fighting back.

Please note: the Sexual Content tag is there due to a single brief plot-relevant scene, which has a warning at the beginning. For other details, read the full description below. Rating breakdown, since that should be public info: 5 x 5*, 2 x 4.5*, 1 x 0.5* During a blackout, a frail and ragged old woman stops to ask for a glass of water from a backyard barbecue party. Given a good supper instead, she looks around the group, and tells them, "Be who and what you truly are." Days later, seven of the people from the barbecue find themselves drawn into a trap laid by a pair of wizards and their accomplices, who kidnap them into a bubble reality. All seven, who have known each other all their lives, are informed that they are not in fact entirely human: they have active fae blood, due to a series of conditions culminating with the blessing of the elderly fae woman. The transformation into fae form comes as a shock: all seven, whether originally female or male, find themselves now unreasonably beautiful women. More urgent even than that, though, is their captivity. Getting back to the real world is a higher priority than this metamorphosis that rapidly begins to feel natural... but this is only the first step, as the diverse types of fae blood they carry begin to surface. With no resources except themselves, how can they escape this prison? If they succeed, how can they possibly reclaim their lives? Just how many other faelings have been kidnapped, anyway, and what happened to them? And is there a way to make sure that their captors never put anyone else through this? Back in the real world, Kayla, who learned long ago to trust her gut instincts, is absolutely certain that something is very wrong. The pattern in the list of missing friends is easy to spot, but makes no sense at all. Then a young woman turns up at the backyard gate who knows more than she should, and even though her explanation makes even less sense, every instinct tells Kayla that Riley is her only way to get them back. If they're not quite what they were, well, that's a bridge to cross later... Just a little note: I'm a big believer in endings that are upbeat but not candy-coated, and not a fan of grim-and-gritty or of glamorized violence. These are adults in a difficult situation. However, no one gets raped, and the physical violence is, all things considered, fairly minimal. There is some harassment, sexual and otherwise, and also some mild restraint and mild verbal abuse. Complicating factors are generally wizardly or fae in nature. If I need to warn you about gender in this being all over the map, some of it reality-based rather than fantasy-based, highly diverse sexuality, or that there is (especially later) some indirect fetish/BDSM imagery and honest character discussion, then you probably should just avoid everything I write. :-) Also available on Scribble Hub.

This quest will either see von Bolstedt's shaken faith in his own god reforged into an intolerant blade, or shattered like ice. Word from the AuthorGreetings! Witch Hunt plays out in the much beloved Warhammer Fantasy setting (owned, of course, by Games Workshop). Do not fret, however, as I've made it a point to make the story digestible even to the uninitiated, and maybe even be a good introduction to the setting. This is the second part of the adventures of Adebar von Bolstedt, as such I recommend reading part one, titled "The Hand of Sigmar" first. While I cannot claim the places, concepts and gods etc. mentioned within as my own, the story and all characters flowed from my own fingers.
