《Legacy of Earth》Chapter 8 – Zio

"Naga I need your help over here!" Tsuna called out to him causing Alon to grab the remaining plans and sprint to the Mech as more Sisters poured out while Tsuna provided cover fire.
"What's wrong?" Alon asked making up the ramparts and firing back at the Sisters taking two out in the process.
"The Zio uses a different form of Operating system that requires a Gestalt Adapter to be fully operational get in," Tsuna said as he shot down more Sisters as Alon climbed inside saw an Auto-Connector for a Gestalt Adapter which allows the Pilot to connect his adapter without any assistance.
"Okay, but I can't promise you that I'll pass—" Alon said aligning his adapter directly at it and instantly connected causing him to blackout for a few seconds and woke up with a bloody nose. "I'm in control," Alon said as the interior lighted up causing the cameras of the Zio to activate giving him a clear view of the hangar and the Sisters opening fire.
"Let's get out of here!" Tsuna climbed inside and tossed a grenade at the Sisters as Alon gripped the controls allowing him to stand up and break out of the restraints.
"This is more of a Test Mech than an actual one," Alon commented in a low voice as he looked through any armaments the Mech was armed with and predictably doesn't have any. "Hold this this is gonna be rough." He warned Tsuna as he gripped the seat as Alon pushed on the thrusters causing the two of them in the cockpit to shake as the Zio got up as continued to fire at him with automatics and launchers.
"I don't think make it far with the fuel we have on hand, but I can make some distance," Alon said looking at the panel that contained the Fuel gauge of the Mech, but the main problems were the Sisters that were present and this posed a possible threat of damaging the Mech before they can make good use of the Zio.
Fortunately, while they don't have any on hand weapons but the Zio has head-mounted machine guns which roared to life with a loud Brrr! Noise as Alon cut down the Sisters like mincemeat giving them more time to escape as the Zio fully stood up.
"Save the thrusters for later once we get out of the Hangar." Tsuna taught him as Alon opted to slowly move his way out by walking instead which saves him on the fuel from moving out, luckily the Zio wasn't as heavy as most Mechs allowing him to sprint his way out but they were intercepted with a handful of modified Kataphracts and Knights. Most likely loaned or bought by the Matriarchy but instead of being painted dark red like the Sovereign or the royal blue knights used by the Principality these Knights and Kataphracts were coloured light grey symbolizing how they choose to remain neutral rather than pick a side on the war.

"Operator Naga of the Memento Mori crew!" One of the Kataphracts contacted him through the Proximity Communicator. "We were sent by Ars to assist you in escaping."
"We don't have much fuel to fly out of here much less to make it very far, can you assist us?" Alon replied as a handful of Kataphracts and Knights, this time they are painted with the pale green and salmon colours of the Sisters of Peace.
"We can assist you!" Two Knights walked up to the Zio and grabbed him by the arms as Alon the three of them activated their thrusters and flew out of the military base while the remaining Knights and Kataphracts fought off the Sisters of Peace.
"What about the others?" Alon asked as they slowly left the battlefield. "They'll be fine our orders were to rescue you and your fellow Operator." One of the Hunters answered him as they landed on a military camp placed far off within the fighting located on an old quarry used for mining activities.
On the Camp, many more Wild Hunt aligned Kataphracts and Knights were still being prepared as many pilots got inside and began to launch heading into the fighting. "We need to head back for the others," Alon told Tsuna as they both hopped out of the Zio. It was true that they were only after the plans but that doesn't mean Alon and Tsuna are allowed to leave Dain and Ars behind.
Not to mention, if they were able to save Ars and his Hunters they might be able to win their support if they rescued them from being on the brink of being wiped out.
"Can we get this thing refuelled and fitted with weapons ASAP!" Tsuna told one of the Engineers immediately made their way as Alon handed them a modified copy of the plans. While Alon was flying them out of the Tsuna managed to replicate copies one showing the base form which can be used for quick repairs or refuelling while another showed the development history and all of the plans of the Zio that they plan to keep.
"I'll also need a Knight to use as well," Tsuna said as one of the Engineers approached him and escorted him into a nearby.
"Fenrir this is Naga what is your status?" Alon asked opening up Communications, the signal was weak but enough for Alon and Tsuna to maintain contact with Dain and the others.
"We're still currently fighting the Sisters!" Dain said as gunfire from both handheld guns and Kinetic and Beam weapons from the Mechs. "We've requested a rescue but they're all currently engaged and are outnumbered."
"Ophelia fly in there and provide aid?" Alon suggested as Tsuna and an Engineer were still discussing the mechanics of his Knight while the Engineers on his end were almost done.

"Negative there's no landing zone and the place is too hot, Ophelia will get shot down," Ars replied followed by an explosion and the sound of someone crying in pain.
"Ophelia, what is your current status?" Alon inquired just to check if she is still fine despite everything. "The Skies are clear for me to pull an extraction but as the Contact explained the place is too hot, I saw a large group of Sisters of Peace affiliated Mechs flying in their area."
"Hang in there I'm heading there myself!" Alon yelled through the communications as the Engineers finished arming the Zio with a Kinetic Rifle and a Beam Sabre, two common but effective weapons used by both Kataphracts and Knights.
"Naga hold on I'm getting ready as well with the others we'll be heading out in thirty seconds." Alon turned to find Tsuna climbing into his Knight causing Alon to nod as he climbed into the Zio and prepare for combat.
Hang in there, Alon thought as they flew off and approach the facility and saw a that a large group had arrived and the Facility had been turned into a Warzone, with a handful of Wild Hunters and Sisters were exchanging blows through gunfire or Power Weapons while their Mechs clashed as well leaving a handful of wreckage the whole time.
"Naga your Zio is too valuable to be destroyed, focus on rescuing the troops on the ground," Tsuna commanded him as Alon slowed down agreeing that everything they planned would have gone to waste if Alon had wrecked the Zio as he landed and began lowering Zio's hands allowing Dain, Ars and the remaining Wild Hunt climbed into the hands of the Zio while they are covered by the Kataphracts who had set up massive barriers.
"All you units this is Naga, I have successfully retrieved Fenrir and the remaining Wild Hunts I shall be heading back into the base," Alon said as he gently flew back to the camp.
[Legacy of Earth]
They had to be relocated to a different site for them to regroup. While some were wounded but none were killed in the fighting. "Nice job Naga," Dain congratulated Alon as he climbed out of the cockpit of the Zio as they were debriefing on the events that have transpired as Henri and Tsuna were negotiating with Ars and another member of Wild Hunt in regards to the discovery of the plans.
"Here are the plans for the Zio," Henri handed the plans to Ars.
"As thanks, we would like to offer our support to your cause," Ars said taking the plans as they were hidden away inside a storage disk.
"We would like that very much," Tsuna nodded as he and Ars walked off to further discuss the plans of them working as a single unit as Alon and Dain approached Henri.
"Any luck in getting them by our side?" Alon asked Henri.
"Suzaku is currently discussing it with Ars, turns out he was the leader of Wild Hunt," Henri explained as she and Dain sat nearby to further explain to him the events while they were still away.
Meanwhile, Alon went back to the Zio to admire the craftsmanship. Perhaps it was because this was the first Mech he had seen outside the propaganda videos on the Internet or the field trips he had seen when passing by the Pilot's Academy.
"Beautiful isn't it?"
He turned to find Ars without his helmet and smiled as he looked at the Zio, in contrast to the Kataphract or the Knights which had a more muscular frame Zio had many slender and feminine designs.
"For a Pacifist nation, the engineers know how to make a beautiful Mech," Alon commented as he crossed his arms and finally let out a sigh as he relaxed for a moment.
"I wouldn't praise the Zio too much, we're just the first few ones outside Mars and Jupiter that have managed to develop Mechs solely for combat." Ars shrugged as he showed him the plans of the Zio which contained even more potential upgrades. "If we put our time and effort into its development we could turn Zio into a weapon for your preferences."
"You agreed to help us?" Alon asked taking off his helmet as well. According to Dain and Tsuna when someone takes off their helmet it's often a sign of trust or deceit. Considering they have finally been able to discuss things it's clear that Ars and his team are here to stay.
"Considering your goal is to end the war, it co-exists just to ours which is the demilitarization of Venus. As such, we'll provide your group with a base of Operations here and we'll be providing you with the resources necessary." Ars said as he revealed a Call with Hayato under the name of Lighthouse.
"That's great to hear, though I hope I'll be able to pilot the Zio a lot more." Alon half-jokingly requested he uses the Zio. But given that he is just a rookie, it would be more suited for Dain or even Tsuna to use it as they are more experienced pilots.
"Don't worry I believe this is just the beginning for both of our groups," Ars reassured him with a pat on the shoulder.

A Titan's Crusade
Erik Thayne spent most of his life being brutally ridiculed and tormented for his weight and physical appearance, among other things. A social pariah and diagnosed with an eating disorder no one has an explanation or treatment for, Erik spent years trying to overcome his issues with his personal image and escape the ridicule and vicious torment of his peers. After years of dedicated effort, and a fresh start in a town away from his childhood and adolescent tormentors, he had finally begun to truly realize what he'd been striving for all along. Only, fate apparently has other plans because in the blink of an eye, Erik found himself snatched from Earth and taken to another universe, another world, where he is offered the chance to be more than he'd ever imagined. Now, he has to fight to restore the Balance between Chaos and Order on a world of swords and magic, in a universe governed by the System's laws, which resemble those of RPGs from Earth. Erik learned to embrace the things about himself that others taught him to hate, using them to reforge his physical identity into something more removed from his old self-loathing. But can he learn to embrace the darkest parts of his mind just as he did the reviled aspects of his body and become who he needs to be to succeed in the task set before him? It might just prove easier to stalk in the dark as a monster than to walk in the light as a man... *This is my first time publishing anything I've written to a public audience. Due to formatting issues, I forwent traditional stat-screens for something a little less problematic, delineating stat screens by separating them from regular text with horizontal lines in a lighter-grey coloration. Let me know if you like them or not. Criticism is entirely welcome, but please don't hate on my work after only reading 1 chapter. This is a writing project I intend to complete but I have committment problems so we'll see how long this goes on. Also, fair warning, as the description implies, the main protagonist is intended to be someone who has been treated cruelly, developed antisocial tendencies, and ultimately has to question his own humanity--or lack thereof. This story is not intended to be brutally dark but I will definitely be trying to follow a darker theme. It is intended to be violent and some scenes later in the story might be...alarming. There will likely also be some light, non-graphic (think more implied with crude jokes and conversation than actual details, there will be no full-blown sex scenes)relationship scenes planned later and if you're opposed to either a bisexual or gay main character, stay away. I haven't yet decided which way he's going to swing but the odds on him being straight are relatively miniscule, and I've always wanted to write a story about a gay man who basically looks like a lumberjack because who doesn't like giving conventional stereo-types the middle finger? This will NOT be a harem story, and I have no intention to focus on romance over action--it's a consequence of character development where I'm concerned, not the be-all-end-all of the story. The cover-art does not, in any way, belong to me. It was an image titled the Druid King (by duskanmarkovic according to the file name) which I found on Google Images. Until I can get something commissioned, this is the best stand-in image I could find.

Contact First
2039 - Earth A narrow beam energy signal appeared aimed squarely at earth from the TRAPPIST system. The communication consisted of a layered set of repeating data over several thousand wavelengths. Over the next few months scientists discovered that the lower wavelengths carried an encoded numerical language which could then be used to interpret the more complicated messages carried on the higher wavelengths. After half a year of painstaking work the signal was fully decoded. It described a small satellite launched along a precise trajectory towards the fourth planet of our solar system. Included was a package of advanced research that humanity would need to have ready in order to receive the satellite and decelerate it safely. The alien data provided the kick that humanity needed to turn from petty squabbling and unite to explore the final frontier. Major government and corporate leaders worked together to create the framework for the United Federation of Sol. UFS spaceports went from scaffolding to daily launches in every major city around the globe. Ships floated like dandelion seeds, spreading on solar wind to grow into colonies. 2397 - Mars orbit, Egeria Station The command center was a hive of activity as checks were conducted and systems initialized. Scientists flitted by like mayflies as communicators beeped and holoscreens spat out green tinted readouts. Nervous energy was thick in the air as everyone anticipated the culmination of over three hundred years of work. Massive fusion reactors under the planet's surface thrummed with barely restrained power as energy fed into a gleaming metallic maze criss crossing the planet. Metal fingers reached up, overshadowing the mighty olympus mons and trying to grab the stars. All over the solar system, people quickly turned to look as gigantic energy lances shot from the dusty fourth planet. Two years later. The same people that clapped loudly at the successful activation of project Hermes now wait with baited breath. A silver capsule trailing bright photonic sails is captured by a net of grav beams and guided with care bordering on reverence into the station. Holoscreens across the headquarters project an image of the sleek craft settling in the bay. Data connections are established and the holoscreens blink to white. Slowly an image forms on the screen. Across the headquarters people stare in wonder as a wholly alien face stares back. "Contact established. Welcome to the universe."

Hy'Ruh-Ha is a what I consider a chronicle fantasy. It is a fantasy drama coming of age story inspired by slice-of-life stories I've read and watched. It is heavy on the slice-of-life and does move slow. It is low-stakes fantasy. This particular story is romance free.(2 out the of 4 is re-uploaded under this title) And if you are someone who cares, the POV character is asexual. Crossroad(formally labeled as the intermission stories)- is a novella collection continuing the tale where Hy'ruh-Ha. The collection as followed: Wolf- After spending several months in the swamp post, Oeric'Sheldmartin returns to repair the chasm between him and his son, Soletus. However, a ghost from his past comes to haunt him and could ruin the life he's made completely. Note: Wolf is a bit of a character piece. POV character is Oeric. The Priest and the Priestess- A novella written in the POV of Mien and then Kiao after a series of unexpected events that change their lives. Mien's POV- Mien has spent the last couple of years working not only in the infirmary but training to become a combat chanter as part of his penitence.
