21 The Past of the Gods. part 1

A loud scratch was resounding in the sky, coming from the north were flaying creatures with the size of a horse, they looked like strange combination of bold eagle and crows, they had two pair of wings and two heads, their claws could cut through stone, at first look they didn’t seem like much but their speed was formidable, and combined with the unusual high intelligence for animals, and you get extremely dangerous flaying opponent.

Day had already transformed and was using his arrows to kill them, the arrows could indeed one-shot them, but that was the case only if they could hit them, which didn’t seem to happen a lot.

[CANT YOU HELP A BIT, I CANT HIT THESE GUYS AND I AM AFRAID THEY COULD ATTACK NIGHT, THERE ARE TOO MANY FOR ME TO PROTECT HIM FROM] Day asked inferno with a worried tone.

He was traying his best but these beasts didn’t seem to have an end, he was managing to block them now with the arrows, but he couldn’t really do much to them, and whats more if his arrows were slow then there was no need to mention his other weapon.

Inferno however laughed in response, which only annoyed Day.

Inferno[I cant use my power unless we want to be detected by everyone, and also I think this would be a good practice for you, these guys aren’t strong enough to cause you damage].

Day just shook his head disappointedly, he was sure he could take a hit but that wasn’t the case for his little brother, he didn’t push his opinion anymore as he knew that it wouldn’t have any effect, he knew the god personality, but one thing in the response made him wary.

Day [what do you mean you cant use the power, didn’t you use it in the prison].

Instead of giving him an answer however, Inferno told him to ask Hades instead.

Day looked at the latter but he was constantly attacking and dodging the giant birds, and didn’t look to have free time to answer his question, but Day asked none the less, Inferno not using his power was too big of a harm to them, he was their guardian, and the strongest from them, he was needed.

Even if from outside Hades looked like he was having trouble that wasn’t the case, that was just his fighting stile, unlike Day he didn’t have an attack like the Fire arrows, so he could only fight this way for now, so he didn’t mind answering him.

Hades ”well the prison is special, there are many artefacts in it, so the attacks there wouldn’t be found out unlike in any other place, whats more I am sure that Inferno controlled his power for that purpose as well, and before we left I informed Steve to report that I rebelled so if any problems come up they would think it was me not the God”

Hades was very throughout with his actions, he didn’t want to cause a blood massacre so he chose this way not only to save his people in the prison, but to save the people of his country from pointless dead as well.

Infeno chimed in the conversation.

[There were some attacks that were too strong but John took care of them so there is no problem there]

Day let out a heavy sight, he was still fighting while they were talking, but it looked like Hades was protecting Night so that gave him a piece of mind and he could focus more on the current discussion.

Day couldn’t figure out one thing however, not wanting to be found wasn’t in line with Inferno character and his action until now, so he asked what was on his mind.

Inferno[well I told you, I don’t want to exterminate all people anymore, and if I get found out that will be troublesome for us right, so I decided to keep low profile, and seeing how I cant feel the power of the other gods I think they have the same opinion]

Inferno knew that he wasn’t the only one released, but Day was surprised when he heard about the existence of other beings like inferno.

Day [you mean, you are not the only god in kahai currently]

Inferno[yes, but I recommend you to pay more attention on the fight, or you might get hurt now]

Hearing this Day turned his head and saw a bird much larger than the ones attacking them till now appearing in the distance, seeing it Hades made a challenging smile, he had never fought a general Croak before, croak was the name of this flaying species.

Being the general meant that this bird was stronger than the normal ones in every aspect and it could lead them as well, cause even if they were smart these animal still attacked alone until now, under its command the disorganized flock started to make coordinating attack and tripled the previous difficulty, Day was only on the defense now, he couldn’t make any attacks at all.

Hades however didn’t seem to be in much more difficult position than before, seeing this made Day happy that he was with them, he didn’t know why this person was actually with them, but with Inferno out of commission Hades was the strongest person in the group, and by a large margin at that, and he was at least reliable.

The General looked at the fight and his eyes glued on Hades, it made a menacing shreek, unlike the rest of the croaks it had three heads, and three pair of wings, it was lager and more intelligent as well, making it an extremely difficult enemy.

Hades seeing the dead stare just smirked, then made a provocative move with his hand and the General joined the fray, seeing this Day felt like he would feint, he couldn’t deal with more, but after a few minutes he made a relieved expression, it didn’t get harder for him, it actually got easier.

Day{he provoked it on purpose}.

Day figured out the reason behind the actions of Hades, the prison lord knew that if the pressure increased on Day he wouldn’t be able to hold on, and the prison lord, or it would be more accurate to say the ex-prison lord made himself the target on purpose, it could be proven by the fact that even if he was provoking them even now his fighting was focus on defending, and this creature even if they had intelligence they werent on his level, so they couldn’t figure it out.

The battle continued for at least ten more minutes, Hades seemed to finally be having difficulties, but suddenly the General made a screeching noise and all the animals retreated carefully, seeing this Day made questioning gaze.

”these beast were just protecting their territory, they wouldn’t have fought us if we didnt go in it, now we passed it, thankfully we were a bit far from their nest or even stronger croaks would have attacked us, they didn’t want to fight us but had no choice ” Hades explained.

Inferno[I see a town in the distance].

Day nodded at Hades and informed him of what Inferno said, honestly this way of communication was a little annoying to him, but well that was the reason why Inferno signed the pact in the first place, so even if he didn’t like it he didn’t say anything about it.

Night ”Finally a town, I got sick of flaying, how many fucking monsters attacked us, we finally can rest ”

Both Hades and Day nodded in agreement, the croaks werent the first thing that wanted a piece of them, after all the prison was far from any cities, and there were many monsters around it as a secondary defence.

Inferno landed far from the city and to surprise to everyone turned into a small cat with light red fur and dark red eyes, it had obvious contrast which made it look extremely cute, Night barely could hold his desire to hug it, repeating to himself, its inferno.

Seeing the looks of the group the god let out a sight.

Inferno[I told you, gods don’t have a physical body, and the human one is not my favorite as well, so noting says I have to be human]

Night [well yea, but I thought, you know, that compared to the others it’s the best, it has hands and all]

Inferno looked at Night[you think that way cause you have been only human, there are many better bodies]

Day didn’t even try to understand the conversation, and also it was better for them if Inferno wasn’t in a human body as well, it drew too much attention, like fireworks at night, at least in cat form the people would mistake the divinity with cuteness.

Hades didn’t understand what was going on but didn’t interfere, he knew it wasn’t his place to.

Day ‘so how are we going to sneak in, I don’t have Id, neither does Night, and we don’t even need to mention inferno”

The moment he asked the question however Hades handed him and everyone else a fake id card, he had thought things before they left so he guessed this current situation and made this, seeing that Day once again felt like he could really trust this guy, which couldn’t be said about the god, but because he decided he would get angry if he thought about it for too long he stopped thinking.

As they got close to the city they were stopped and those fake id really came in handy, they were able to enter without a problem.

Night “amazing”.

Hades”is this the first time you see bird people”

Night nodded, the people here were human subspecies, they were a strange combination of humans and birds, they had wings connected to their hands, their legs looked like combination of bird and human legs, and their heads were those of birds, some walked on the ground and some flew in the air, the city wasn’t big, this wasn’t their kingdom but it still covered a bit of territory, there wasn’t much difference between this city and the cities of humans, except for the fact that there were doors on some buildings but no stairs connected to them, making it obvious that those places were exclusive to the bird people.

Day“ok, we need to find a place to stay first, but we have a serious problem, money ”

Saying so Day looked at the most reliable person in the group, Hades.

The latter seeing this just let out a sight, he took out a small strange bag, made from dark wood, in the shape of dark three, there was quite a bit of currency there, he took out several cubes and gave them to Day.

Hades ”you know how to use them right, I havent had a break in a while so I will go explore the city, I will leave the rest to you, lets meet here at 6 tonight”

Day didn’t have a problem with that, he was glad that Hades had any money, he couldn’t have known that Hades as the Lord of the prison was rich, after all considering his job it was obvious that the salary was huge and in the prison there werent many places where he could spend it as well, the people there had almost everything prepared for them by the kingdom and the Lord especially had the most benefits.

What Day didn’t expect however was the currency, that Hades gave him was “prey”, the only universal currency in the world, {Prison lord is really prestige job after all, things only hunters have are handed to them easily}

Day nodded and they all left.

Later when the sun was setting they were all sitting in a tavern having dinner.

Day “did you explore the city”

Hades ”yes, but it was the same as a lot of other cities, I didn’t see anything that grabbed my attention”

Night nodded with sad expression ”my expectations were betrayed as well ” after the group split and Day completed everything that need to be done, Day took Night and Inferno and explored the city as well, but they found only boredom, but that was to expected, this was a normal place not a resort with attractions, so Day didn’t expect much from the beginning, at least the food was surprisingly good.

Inferno[there is only one problem, I couldn’t find what I was looking for].

The God speech looked just like cat sounds, so inferno could speak and nobody from the people around them was suspicious.

Day ”well, it was to be expected, what you were looking for happened 10 000 years ago, I would be surprised if there was anything left from then, let alone information”

Hades could read the atmosphere quite well, so he could guess what was the topic of the conversation.

Hades ” whats more I doubt you will find any information in this bird city, considering that its information connected to humans, for that we need to go to the bigger human cities and even then we mind not find anything”

“what the hell happened ten thousand years ago anyway” Night asked with mouth full of food.

All of them looked at Inferno, actually the rest wanted to know as well, but didn’t know if it was appropriate to ask, and none of them wanted to worsen their relationship with Inferno.

Seeing the expectation in their gazes Inferno let out a sight, he didn’t really want to talk about it, but well they would find out sooner or later anyway, and after Hades defended Night and especially helped Day in the earlier attack he didn’t mind if they told him as well, he didn’t seem like a bad guy.

Inferno let out another sight[ok, this story is probably the foundation of the human kingdoms which currently control the continent, and also prove that gods should never fall in love with a human for everyone sake]
