《The Void Kingdom》Ch 1 | The dazzling crash

[ At about 10 am in the morning when roads were full of people, a truck with license number: NH 3452 drove through the footpath with its failed breaks and hit a third-year student named Wang Ming, who was going to attend his classes at Nan Hai University. ]
Inside one of Nan Hai University's classrooms, a student read the dazzling news article while scrolling through his news feed.
"Holy Shit!"
He shouted looking at the phone screen in shock. His hands were trembling and his eyes were opened wide in fear and concern. This news was as deadly as if it nearly pulled out the soul from his body.
His shout which possessed the potential to deafen any of the surrounding students shocked everyone because of its random occurrence. Since the entire classroom was totally silent initially and was only focusing on the lecture by the professor standing in front of the podium, his shout echoed inside the classrooms.
"Swoosh"
Everyone turned their heads towards the boy who dared to shout out loud in front of the professor.
"Hehe…" Looking at the audience staring at him, the boy was definitely embarrassed as he blushed slightly and rubbed the back of his head while slightly lowering down his head.
"Student Feng, what was so crazy enough to make you shout, 'Holy Shit' during my class? I don’t think I teach shit." The professor standing near the podium lowered his glasses and glared through the gap between the glass and his forehead.
The professor was named Ye Chen. He was an old and experienced man in the field of mathematics, known throughout the country. Due to his kind nature and interesting lectures, students are usually totally engrossed in studies unless there is someone as out of the box as 'Zhu Feng' who shouted out loud just now.

Zhu Feng slowly stood up and quietly nodded towards the glaring professor as a form of greeting. 'The old man is totally enraged this time,' he thought inwardly.
"Student Feng! Can you mind explaining all of your deeds?" The old professor didn't let go of Zhu Feng even after seeing his embarrassment and shouted out sternly.
"Professor…. One of my roommates met with an accident." Zhu Feng answered honestly. He didn't need to hide anything as it was really something serious.
"Ah? And how did you know it just now? Did he message you?" Professor Ye Chen was surprised. He is always serious in his classes and has already warned his students in the past to not use any messaging apps during class. But this student 'Zhu Feng' never listens to him.
"Umm… I read it in the news just now."
"Oh… it's okay if you aren't using messaging apps." The old professor nodded in satisfaction, as long as his students don't use messaging apps it's all good. But suddenly he thought of something, "Wait! You said you read it in the news? Is your roommate some kind of star? Why was his health in the news?"
"Um… he isn't a star or anything like that." Zhu Feng shook his head. Obviously, his dull, dark and soulless roommate can't be a star.
"Then?"
"He was hit by a truck while coming to the college, so it's obvious that it'll come up in the news." Zhu Feng nodded his head in all seriousness and explained everything to the inquiring professor.
“...”
"What??!" After a moment of silence, Ye Chen shouted. Not only Old professor Ye Chen but other students in the classroom were also dumbstruck. Their eyes nearly popped out of their sockets.

What the hell happened?
Without any more talk, they all swiftly fished out their phones, not paying any attention to the old professor.
As soon as they opened the news app of the Nan Hai City, they saw the dazzling and bouncy headline on the top of all news.
[ A student of Nan Hai University was nearly killed! ]
Following the eye-catching clickbait, the piece of news underneath gave a detailed report of the event.
[ At about 10 am in the morning when roads were full with people, a truck licensed number: NH 3452 drove through the footpath with its failed breaks and hit a third-year student named Wang Ming, who was going to attend his classes at Nan Hai University. ]
[ The crash was so dazzling and loud that the people surrounding the crash area were attracted by it. After the crazy public beat the driver out of his wits for such a loud crash, they sent the victim Wang Ming to the Nan Hai University Hospital. ]
[ According to a hospital insider, the luck of the Wang guy was pretty good. Even after such a dazzling crash, his three hind limbs are all in good condition and only his forelimbs are affected by the crash. ]

Synopsis: Issa Pyxis, Spacer orphan and illegal heretic, graduated from living on the streets to running with a gang years ago, but now it looks like that’s all going to change. Her inheritance, more specifically who—or what—she is, is catching up with her, and on a planet with the Emperor’s inquisitors slinking around in every shadow, nowhere is safe and no one can be trusted. What will she do? A cyberpunk story about identity, loneliness, covert infiltration, evil dystopias, and much more! Features: - Cyborgs and cyberpunk galore - This is indented to be somewhat “rational” and “hard” Sci-Fi story - Original Fiction however parts of my worldbuilding are inspired by other Sci-Fi stories (duh) Rationale: The future is cool, AIs are kickass, and questions about consciousness are simultaneously existential and yet unanswered. To me, this story is a vehicle for exploring these topics, and also, I wanted to write a story where the protagonist was unafraid of themselves and where their self is more like a git-repo than a meat computer. Disclaimer: This story primarily takes place in what we’d describe as a “cyberpunk dystopia” with some extra technocracy, autocracy, and religious fervor thrown into the mix, so there will be some “grittiness” in this story. Caveat emptor. Also, [insert your favorite boilerplate “views expressed” disclaimer here]. I shouldn’t need to say this, but the main character and other characters in my story can be wrong on occasion (gasp!) and the way they view the world isn’t always objective truth (if such a thing even exists) nor do their views and opinions necessarily reflect the views of me, the author. participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge and also having a go at NaNoWriMo this November. This was a first draft published as it was written for Nanowrimo November 2020. A little rough around the edges, I hope to come back and edit at some point, and then continue the story on. In the grand scheme of things Elias was nothing special. Which was why he was surprised by a random company on a new colony planet buying out his contract. That was the problem with the large companies that ruled the colonies, once they owned your contract, they owned you. Imagine the greater surprise when he learnt that the new company held the promise of freedom. Not from the constant battle against the Swarm that were also trying to claim the colony planets for their own. Nor from the Crust, the mysterious substance that covered the same planets and held the resources they all fought for. No, the freedom from being oppressed by those with more power and to finally decide where to go and where to set down roots and call home.
