《Chronicles of the dragon slayer [old version]》Chapter 12 – Count Alfred[1]

Since the second test had ended and a break was given to the students by Andra, Julian decided to go to the school's training weapon armory to see what weapon he would use.
'I wonder what I should use? In my last life, I had chosen to learn multiple weapons for the sake of versatility and to maximise my choices in different situations, but I don't think I will do that this time. I feel like using the yedo, that I used in my last life as my primary, would be the best choice. I mean, it is the weapon I have the most amount of experience using, it would be the easiest.'
Done with making his decision, Julian left the training hall and entered the gymnasium, where the weapons were kept inside a storage room. Julian entered the room and picked a wooden yedo that was kept along with the dozens of other swords in the room.
Julian then left the gymnasium for the field, where he lied down under the sun and started practicing the [Heavenly sun breathing technique].

Back in the infirmary inside the training hall, Leopold and Jason had woken up and were glaring at each other.
"Oye! Will the two of you finally stop glaring at each other already?" said Helen, who was sitting with Sandra in between the two boys.
"The nurse just healed you and left, she said that the two of you need to get some rest if you want to perform well in the next test."
"Helen, while I do appreciate the concern, could you please not interfere with this" Leopold replied with a smile which turned into a frown as he moved his face and looked at Jason.
Helen just sighed and held her head as she thought, 'why the hell are these two acting like spoiled children all of a sudden? Just 2 weeks ago, they were acting like great friends when I met them at the Cavendish duchy.'

Helen had known Leopold, Sandra, and Jason for 5 years now. Her master/grandfather was great friends with the parents of the children, and visited them quite often, sometimes binging Helen with him, where she made friends with them. They got along quite well, considering the fact that these were children from famous families, and had a great amount of pride. Such friendships were truly quite rare between noble children as they rarely made friends with others.
'From what the duke said, these two got into a duel against each other right before entering the academy, which ended in a draw, and have been like this ever since.'
"Oye the hell is up with you two, you have been like this for a while now, and I am starting to get annoyed from this, Aisha" Sandra said as she held grabbed Helen and left the room completely pissed off from Leo's response.
"Ya, ya , ya Sandra holds on I'm coming so let go…"
*Slam* Sandra shut the door behind her as she left with Helen who barely made Sandra her go of her arm.
"Great now you managed to make even Sandra annoyed, are you feeling proud of yourself now Leopold?" Jason said sarcastically to Leopold.
"Shut it Jason, and she wasn't only pissed off at me, you know." Leopold said as he closed the curtains surrounding his bed.

Fifty minutes had passed since then and most of the cadets had gathered back at the training hall where they could see Andra along with two other individuals standing on top of the big stage in the middle.
"WELL I SUPPOSE SINCE ALL OF YOU HAVE GATHERED HERE ALREADY THEN I WILL BEGIN WITH THE EXPLANATIONS OF THE THIRD TEST." Andra spoke with mana infused into her voice, that got the attention of all the students in the hall.

"First, LET ME INTRODUCE YOU TO THE TWO INDIVIDUALS BESIDE BE" she said as she pointed to the men on her left and right.
"On my right as some of you may have recognized is the principal of the academy, professor Micheal Compton." she said as she pointed to the old bearded man to her right.
"Hello children" Micheal said as he waved his palm with a smile on his face.
"And on my left is count Alfred Falkirk, one of the 12 sword masters of the human empire." Andra said as he pointed to the person on her left.
"Good evening" Alfred said with a Stoic expression on his face.
"AHEM, NOW I WILL BE EXPLAINING HOW YOUR THIRD TEST TODAY WILL WORK."
"1) THE PERSON WITH WHOM Your CADETS WILL BE SPARRING HAS BEEN CHANGED FROM US TEACHERS TO THE COUNT, WHO WILL MAKE THE MOST ACCURATE JUDGEMENTS ON YOUR COMBAT ABILITIES."
"2) YOU ARE ALLOWED TO USE ANY WEAPONS OF YOUR CHOICE DURING THIS TEST, HOWEVER THE USE OF MANA IS STILL FORBIDDEN."
"3)THE PRINCIPAL AND I WILL ONLY BE OBSERVING THE BATTLE AND AS SUCH WILL BE INSIDE THE GLASS CHAMBER WHERE THE TEACHERS STAYED DURING THE SECOND TEST."
"ANY QUESTIONS SO FAR?"
""NO MA'AM""
"GREAT, NOW OUR PRINCIPAL HAS SOMETHING TO SAY TO YOU CHILDREN BEFORE THE TEST STARTS." Andra said as she backed off leaving room for Micheal to come forward and speak.
"Thank you miss Andra, and good afternoon children, I only have a few things to say to you, so I won't take too much of your time do not worry." said Micheal with mana infused in his voice, however his voice was much more pleasant compared to the roars that Andra gave out during her speeches.
"First, during this test we will be seeing how you can perform when facing against someone of a much greater level than you."
"And secondly, count Alfred has come to the academy today to look for a disciple so, I want all of you to be aware of that, as he will be choosing one of you cadets to be his disciple."
"Now I believe that the count has something to say so pay attention to what he says."
Alfred walked forward and started speaking "now as the principal has just informed you, I have come to the academy today to find someone that can become my disciple and inherit the techniques that I have spent my life creating. I will also inform you early on that the criteria for becoming my student is not your strength but your compatibility with it which I will see during the test."
Done with his speech Alfred returned to his position with the same Stoic expression he had since the beginning.
"WELL SINCE BOTH OF THEM ARE DONE WITH WHAT THEY HAD TO SAY, WE WILL NOW BEGIN WITH THE THIRD TEST."

Delve
Summary – Level 1: Delve is an isekai litrpg that follows an average guy who just happened to wake up in a forest one day. He wasn’t summoned to defeat the demon lord or to save the world or anything like that, at least as far as he can tell. The only creature there to greet him was a regular old squirrel. Soon enough, he meets other people, only to discover that he can’t speak the language, and that not everybody immediately trusts random pajama-wearing strangers they met in the middle of the wilderness. Things generally go downhill from there, at least until the blue boxes start appearing. Delve is a story about finding your way in a new, strange, and dangerous world. It’s about avoiding death, figuring out what the heck is going on, and trying to make some friends along the way. It’s not about getting home, so much as finding a new one. Did I mention that there will be math? Summary – Level 2: Okay, but what are you in for, really? Well, this story is supposed to be realistic, or at least, as realistic as a fantasy litrpg can be. The main character doesn’t instantly become an all-powerful god and murder-hobo his way across the universe. Delve is, at its heart, a progression fantasy, but that progression is meant to feel earned. The numbers in this story actually mean something. Everything is calculated, and if you find a rounding error, I expect you to tell me about it. That said, if math isn’t your cup of tea, there is plenty more that the story has to offer. Characters are meant to feel real, and progression isn’t only about personal power; it’s also about allies, connections, and above all, knowledge. Figuring out how the system works is a significant theme. ... What, you want more details? Okay, fine, but this is going to get a bit spoiler-y. Are you sure? Yes! Really sure? I mean, this summary is practically half as long as the first chap– Now! Okay, okay! The main character becomes a magic user, but he takes a route that is not very popular in adventurer culture, namely that of a support. There is a full magic system with various spells, skills, and abilities, but our MC decides that aura magic is the way to go, and that the only stat worth investing in is mana regeneration. Most people at the Adventurer’s Guild think that this makes him a bit of a dumbass, but he’s playing the long game. We’ll see how that works out for him, won’t we? Because of his build, the MC levels up fast, at least compared to normal people. There are no cheats, though, and he is limited in other ways. There are some clear and pretty obvious downsides to his build. That’s what makes it fun, no? Morals? Our MC has them. Again, we’ll see how that works out for him. Realism, remember? Would you be okay with killing someone and looting their body? I sure hope not. POV? The focus is on the main character, but there will be occasional varying perspectives from people around him, or involved in the events related to the main plot. It isn’t going to jump all over the place. Tech is standard medieval stasis. No smartphones, but the MC does have a technical background. Computers and their programming might be involved. There might even be a bit of uplifting down the road, who knows? Anyway, it isn’t the focus. He isn’t going to invent the gun in chapter 1 and change the face of warfare. Romance is not a major focus. Friendships are more the name of the game, though there will be some characters in romantic relationships. There is exploration, though not as much of the geographical nature as you might expect. It is more about exploration of the system and the culture. The pace is slow and detailed, sometimes verging on slice-of-life. The action is meant to be realistic and grounded in the numbers, and it is intended to have meaning beyond simply punching things until they stop moving. The general tone of the story is grey, and some parts can get quite dark. People die. Sometimes, people with names, but not anywhere near GoT level. There is plenty of light, too, though, to balance the darkness. The world is dangerous, but overcoming that danger is why we’re all here, isn’t it? Anyway, if you’ve made it this far through the summary, you clearly like words. I hope you enjoy the story! Cover by Miha Brumec Summary Updated: 2020-06-14
