Andra started to move towards the field after completing her speech
The students looked blankly at each other before another shout was heard from Andra "WHAT ARE YOU GUYS LOOKING AT EACH OTHER FOR, FOLLOW ME YOU Fool."
Everyone started to rush towards the field upon listening to Andra's command.
*******
"Ok, since everyone is ready, I will begin with your assessment."
""YES MA'AM""
"I will be calling your names one at a time according to your assigned rank, and when it is called I want you to come up here and take your position on the starting line. When I count to 3 and say go, is when you will be allowed to start running, your time will be recorded be the machine that is located on the other side. Any questions?"
""NO MA'AM""
"Ok then, rank 1 – Leopold Cavendish"
Leopold waled to the starting point once his name was called and took his stance.
"Ready?" Andra asked, and Leopold nodded his head, and took in a heavy breath, before he let it out "whoooo".
"3"
"2"
"1"
"GO" Andra said as she blew into her whistle.
Leopold rushed from his position as everyone stared at him running
'Well, seems like even in this life this guy is a monster'Julian thought as he looked at Leopold running at top speed.
*Beep*
The machine on the other side that was used to measure the time made a beep, signifying that Leopold had crossed the hundred-meter mark.
Andra looked at the time that was sent directly to her smartphone and made an amused face.
"Leopold Cavendish, time: 11.35 seconds, well done now go back to where you were standing until you are called"
"YES MA'AM " Leopold said as he panted for breath, and started walking back to his spot.

Meanwhile, everyone else was surprised to listen that Leopold had broken the previous world record for a 100 dash without mana for children under 15.
The one most surprised by this was Jason, who saw Leopold as a rival, 'ducking monster that guy is, but if he can run that fast I should definitely be faster.'
Andra soon called the next student, "Rank 3 – Helen Castell" she took her position at the starting point ready to run,
"Ready"
"3"
"2"
"1"
"GO"
Helen started running as best she could and eventually completed her dash.
"Helen Castell, time: 15.48 seconds, return to your spot until you are called." Andra said as she looked at Helen and gesture her to return to her spot. 'Well, this speed does make sense for a mage, she hasn't trained her body to be strong, so it's understandable.'
"Next, rank 6- Jason Webb" Jason walked confidently to the starting point and took his stance.
"Ready"
"3"
"2"
"1"
"GO"
Andra was shocked to see that Jason too had reached a speed similar to what Leopold had achieved, 'hmmm interesting, seems like he got motivated by looking at Leopold time.'
*Beep*
The sound distracted Andra from her thoughts and looked at her smartphone and smiled.
"Jason Webb, time: 11.40 seconds"
All color drained from his face as he heard his time." What, how, why is my huff time slower than him?" Jason said in disbelief.
"Are you perhaps doubting the ability of the academy's equipment?" Andra responded with at Jason's statement.
"Ye- NO MA'AM" Jason responded, knowing that doubting the academies equipment was a futile thing, as its machines were the best one could find in the continent.
"If so, then return to your spot, until you are called back once again."

Jason returned to his spot with a sour expression and stared at Leopold, who was sitting down and staring that the sky.

The test proceeded without any issues and there weren't any unexpected things happening after the first 3 completed their tests.
Julian and Andrew both scored around the same time of 14.5 seconds, which was around the average for most male students that were in their class.
"WELL NOW, SINCE YOU GUYS HAVE COMPLETED YOUR SPEED TEST, WE WILL BE TAKING A 15-MINUTE BREAK BEFORE, MOVING TO YOUR ENDURANCE TEST. FOR THIS TEST, YOU WILL BE DIVIDED BETWEEN TWO GROUPS. ONE FOR MALE AND ONE FEMALE CADETS. FROM THERE, ALL CADETS BELONGING TO THE SAME GROUP WILL START RUNNING ALL AT ONCE. THIS TEST IS NOT ABOUT YOUR SPEED, BUT YOUR HOW LONG YOU CAN LAST AND HOW WELL YOU CAN CONSERVE YOUR ENERGY. ANY QUESTIONS?"
Within the group of boys, one student raised his hand. Andra looked at the boy and said "yes cadet Phill what is your question?"
Phill stood up and asked, "well ma'am, how will you know exactly how long we last when we are running? Won't it be difficult to keep track of everyone the same time?"
"Good question, cadet phill. As you all know that the academy has provided you with a smartwatch that keeps track of your activities within school premises and also used for keeping track with your health. We will be using these smartwatches to record how fast, long you run for during this test. Any further questions?"
Seeing that no one in the crowd chose to raise their hands, Andra concluded her explanation.
"Well then now I allow all of you cadets to take a 15-minute recess before we begin with the endurance test. DISPERSE".
Listening to Andra's words, most students decided to stand up and move inside the gymnasium to drink water or eat snacks that they bought along with them, but some decided to stay on the field and take as much time to cool down as they could.
Julian was a part of the latter group as he laid down on the ground and breathed in air that started to give him a refreshing feeling.
'Ahhh, the ancient's certainly knew how to breathe in a way that made recovering much easier.' to everyone who looked at Julian he just seemed like an oddball who was laying down on the grass with closed eyes like a weirdo, but what Julian was doing right now was a much more efficient way to rest than any of them. He was currently practicing one of the arts that he had learned in the library of the dragon that had killed him 'Heavenly sun breathing technique', the technique allowed him to revitalize his body at a frightening pace, and it also allowed the boy to absorb the energy of the sun to slowly become stronger, while the speed of the technique was slow it absorbed only the purest form of mana.

Blightbane
Miscellaneous Notes: - I want to see about making a crude map of Shroud to help readers. - I also want to get back to writing Coalescence updates. Schedule Notes: - None for now, updates when I can. [ Thank you for your patience and support as I improve my writing and storytelling abilities. I'm also using this story to better develop lore that extends far beyond it. ] Thanks to another exceptionally talented artist, Hiroeth, Blightbane now has an official cover! Vera was alone again. “You’re completely unprepared. Never before has sending one of you off made me feel quite so guilty.” Whenever she found herself in doubt, she would weigh her actions against the guiding principles of the one whom she revered. “When you don’t know the rules of the game, start making them up. When you are constrained by unfavorable conditions, inject a little chaos.” It was the supplementary message that concerned Vera the most. It was difficult to follow because it was intentionally vague and mired in subjectivity. “How can I enjoy myself when you look so tormented? Are we in danger?” Vera fell silent. An experiment is taking place on a planetary scale. Across the surface of the planet, a phenomenon referred to as "Blight" is spreading. Festering regions defended by fierce creatures called “blightbeasts” taint the surface, warping the land and proliferating unceasingly. Among the sentient creatures of the planet, it is the Blightbane Guild’s responsibility to stem the tide. They endeavor to cleanse the land in a struggle of attrition, but they are losing ground. A young man named Caim has been uprooted from his former life and transported to The Shrouded Theocracy, an isolationist nation with fanatical policies. He must struggle to survive with only an unfamiliar strain of magic to aid him. There is a secret to this magic. One he knows very little about. He intends to explore just what makes this magic special. On the far border of the theocracy, a mage scientist named Inis discovers a revolutionary new way to infuse strength from defeated blightbeasts. Using herself as a test subject, this process allows her to grasp magical concepts previously thought beyond her reach. Though she tries to document any side effects that arise, something escapes her awareness. She is playing with a dangerous force that will claim her most treasured asset if she isn't careful. Everyone and everything on the planet is a part of the experiment. The experiment is a lie.

Demons Don't Lie
Algier, average human and recent convict, has committed the gravest sin of all: demon slaying. His fate? To participate in the Culling, a battle-royale style tournament that’s televised live to the world, where all the worst criminals go to die. As with all tournaments, a prize is on the line. If Algier survives, he can have any wish granted by the Marquises, the new rulers of Earth following the demons’ invasion. However, there’s little hope for survival in a tournament designed to have demons do the work of the executioner, especially for a human. Demons are stronger, faster, wiser, and more talented than the average human, and, despite his crime, Algier is no demon hunter. Mentally defeated before the tournament even begins, Algier is torn between becoming another demon’s points and fighting on in his dead mother’s legacy. But should he choose to fight, there is one advantage that Algier has that can tip the odds in his favour: Demons don’t lie, but humans can. How to read this story Demons Don't Lie is written from the perspective of an unreliable (lying) narrator. There are many inconsistencies within the story which are placed there intentionally. It's up to the reader to decide what is the truth and what is the lie. Promotion Full quality cover image
