《Chronicles of the dragon slayer [old version]》Chapter 6 – the classroom incident

Andra had already left the class, and Julian was getting up to leave for the changing room when, *bang* one of Jason's goons, Anthony had slammed his hand down on Julian's desk.
"Oye, who do you think you are to ask Jason to shut up huh, you got a death wish or something huh punk?" Julian ignored Anthony and proceeded to take out his gym clothes from his bag. "Hah, look at the balls that this punk has, he's ignoring me, waaah" Anthony said as he held his head and started to laugh "ahahhahha, take this bastard!" Anthony suddenly punched towards Julian in the middle of his crazed laughter. Julian saw the punch coming and instantly moved his head to the right, effectively dodging the blow.
"This fucker, how dare you dodge my punch you bastard!" exclaimed Anthony as he threw another punch, which Julian also proceeded to dodge. "Ahhhhhh" Anthony's rage was growing but the atmosphere across was completely different.
Everyone in the class was completely shocked to see Julian dodge not only one, but two of Anthony's punches. Anthony was supposed to be 68 ranks above Julian, so looking at Julian effortlessly dodge multiple punches from Anthony was very shocking to everyone in the class and to Andra as well, who had been observing everything from the outside.
"Oye Anthony, have you gone insane? You know it is against the rules to attack each other unless we are in training or in a duel." said Julian as he proceeded to dodge another one of Anthony's punches, who seemed to have gotten angrier after Julian's retort.
"Haah, this idiot just can't listen to reason" Julian decided to move aside from his table as he kept on dodging blows from Anthony and then made a sudden movement that made Anthony fall down on the ground face first.

Everyone in the class looked at the scene with wide eyes, the one who was most surprised by this was Julian's best friend Andrew, who knew best that Julian was no where skilled enough to be able to dodge attacks this well or counterattack the way he had demonstrated.
"Oye Antony stop you are only embarrassing yourself like this" Jason said as he left the class. 'How the hell did that guy suddenly become so good at dodging attacks, just until yesterday he was getting pushed around so easily.' Jason thought himself.
'Julian huh, I might have to get a background check on him, his sudden spike in skill seems oddly suspicious, well either way doesn't matter, if he is actually good he will likely perform well in the future as well.' Leopold thought as he looked away from Julian, who stood beside his desk and Anthony, who lying on the floor.
'Odd, truly very odd, it is almost as if his personality just changed overnight' Helen thought as she left the class with the rest of the girls behind her.
Seeing that Leopold and Helen had left as well, most of the other students in class decided to leave as well, thinking of this incident to have been a most likely stroke of luck.
"Duuuude, how did you do that? Huh, I have known you for 8 years now, but I have never seen you pull a stunt like that…ya… don't tell me you were practicing in secret all this time" flinching at Andrew's words, Julian replied "hehehe, yep I had been practicing how to fight diligently all this time, yep that is definitely the case."
'shit, I fucked up big time just now, ahh who told me to fucking dodge his punches, I could have just shut up and taken those punches.' Julian was in the middle of contemplation when, 'you know why you dodged them, it was to feed your measly ego' a very familiar voice appeared in his head, it sounded just like him but older. 'You know you could have just sucked it up and let everyone believe that you are the weakling they think you are, but you went ahead and dodged it, is this how you think you are going to be able to kill dragons huh, you fucking idiot, don't you know the circumstances you are in?'

Surprised by his own words in his own mind, "the fuck, what eh, ahh, I must be having some sort of after effects from that Nihil's actions." 'Don't act like I don't exist, well whatever, just know that I am always going to b here reminding you of how much of a failure you are, useless piece of trash bastard.'
Julian looked forward with ice-cold eyes as the voice in his head had completed his mockery.
Julian walked down the hallway into the changing room for boys with his bag of clothes. Once inside, he saw only a few people were still changing. Julian quickly decided to change into his training suit for the physical assessment and left for the gymnasium.

Meanwhile, inside a small room in the gymnasium, Andra was sitting on a chair by herself as she thought about what she had seen today in class. "That boy, hmm he is definitely an odd one, maybe this batch will be more fun than I imagined. Two children from ducal families, the disciple of a 9- star grand mage, and one oddity. This will certainly be interesting ".
"Well anyway, the students should start arriving any time now, I should go down and see how they all look after the incident huhuhuhuhu" Andra said before fire enveloped her entire being, and she disappeared from the room without a trace.
******
Leopold was the first one to appear in the gymnasium, Jason , and Helen followed suit, the rest also began appearing slowly, Jason and Andrew too appeared with the rest of the class.
Eventually when everyone was in the gym andra started to speak "NOW I WANT EVERYONE'S ABSOLUTE ATTENTION TO BE ON ME AS I EXPLAIN HOW THINGS AR GOING TO PROCEED FOR YOUR PHYSICAL EXAMINATION" Andra's voice seemed to have been louder because she had been imbuing her voice with magic that made it sound very loud
"YOUR FIRST PHYSICAL FITNESS TEST WILL BE DIVIDED INTO THREE PARTS, SPEED, ENDURANCE, AND STRENGTH. FOR YOUR SPEED TEST YOU WILL BE TAKING PART IN A 100-METER DASH" andra said as she pointed to a chalked region on the field outside, "FOR THE ENDURANCE TEST WE WILL BE MAKING YOU RUN AROUND THE FIELD FOR AS LONG AS YOU CAN" she said, once again pointing to the field but this time at a different chalked area, "AND LASTLY FOR YOUR STRENGTH TEST YOU WILL BE USING YOUR STRONGEST PHYSICAL MOVE ON THE MACHINE RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU." she said as she gestured to a machine that had a flat round top, that was facing forwards, with a display connected to its side.
"ANY QUESTIONS REGARDING THIS?" andra said as she looked around the room. "SEEING THAT NO ONE HAS ANY QUESTIONS, LET'S BEGIN WITH YOUR PHYSICAL ASSESSMENT."

The Paths of Magick
Credits: Story by Xcaliburnt. Cover Art by @Bervolart. Magick, the power to bend the laws of reality. All because of a mystical substance known as mana. Mages follow the Paths to achieve power, for there is no more addictive chase. Each Path winds and twists, forcing mages through the flames of adversity and challenge. Though the operative word is "path", the reality is far less straightforward. Instead of a road, Paths are like the branches of world trees, erupting into the heavens, intertwining, and ending in sharp snaps. Only the strongest reach the sky. There are several Paths, and many Ways to walk them—variations of the same Path, and like the stars, they are endless. Magick is the sacred flame that scours the fat, rendering the truest self. Superfluous flesh melting away to show the skeleton of one's being. A chance for ascension—apotheosis. Though not every mage works to godhood, if they survive long enough, It is inescapable. Witness the lives of those that tread the knife's edge of self-destruction. Each one intertwined in their search for answers, revenge, and, most of all: power. These individuals have all lost something precious—irreplaceable—and In search of filling the void left behind, they have taken up the mantle of a mage. Per aspera ad astra. Ad mortem vel divinitatis. (Through adversity to the stars. To death or divinity.) There is no consistent release schedule except my consistent inconsistency. Besides, there’s like a thousand pages worth of content, how can—you already read it? Goddamn. Oh, and there is a very long hiatus between volumes as I intend to edit and rewrite a lot. What to Expect: This story is progression fantasy, so expect a healthy dose of training. It's also heavy on slice of life, and it isn't entirely overarching-plot-driven. Expect characters to live their lives, and not always be on some quest to save the world. There's a lot of magic theory and discussion about it in the story. So, if you don't like impromptu lessons on sorcerous theory by traveling monster slayers, this might not be for you. But if you do like it, rejoice! For there is a lot of it. This is also heavy on prose, purple as a bruised eye. I use outdated, uneccesarily collegiate-level terms and play around with the writing style just for the heck of it. I find it fun to wax and wane poetic, and that might grate on you—I don’t plan to change this aspect of the Paths much if at all. Onto the viewer discretion is advised parts: This is grim-dark/ grim-heart. Take the tags seriously. There will be combat scenes that are brutal and horrifying. Fights to the death tend to be. This is a tale about medieval mercenaries (quite literal killers for hire), man-eating monsters, and eldritch gods beyond the material plane. Beside that, there will be traumatic events that are best left unread. I do not detail certain acts I find heinous enough, instead leaving some parts unwritten but still alludded to if not outright stated; there is simply no graphic narration thereof. This is not for the faint of heart.
