《The Alteras Games: World Jumper Book 2》Chapter 6

"Ok, this looks like a good place." Jet informed them as he climbed onto a small ledge.
"So you going to tell us why we couldn't have stayed close by the house cave?" Kayley had even gotten tired of the pace. She had no idea Jet could move that fast. Considering he had been going much slower before.
"I can make a new home if needed." Jet held out his hand, and the cleaver formed a few seconds later. Then he removed the bracelet and made a large ledge for all of them. "They checked these while we were there. So, they more than likely don't work down here. He also checked for tampering, thus as long as they don't look like they're tampered with. We should be safe to carry them around."
"So that's why so far out. You don't want others to see your magic." Jeff thought out loud.
"Yeah, we're the only three with magic around." Jet said, looking around. "Now, let's find out how far across to the other side." To test this, he threw a fireball toward the other side. "Not too far. I could probably make a permanent bridge. Unless we have an earthquake."
"You can make a bridge?" Kayley asked.
"Yeah, a permanent one will be a bit hard. I'll have to brace it up." Jet stood there in thought.
"Put an arch underneath. Think of some of the bridges back on Earth. Also, there are only two magic users here." Jeff corrected Jet's mistake.
"I didn't make a mistake. That glowing rock in your chest is doing something to you. I was worried at first, but you seem to be fine." Jet explained as he created the bridge slowly.
"That wasn't a rock. It was some kind of glowing gem." Jeff started to lift his shirt until he remembered how cold it was.
"I didn't get a good look at the gem. Was a little bit busy stabbing someone." Jet wasn't too focused on the conversation at this point.
"Well, we were trying to stop a man from killing us. Then we tried to escape and got caught. Been a rough few days." Kayley added while watching the bridge form.
"Couple days, we've known each other for less than twenty-four hours, which is odd because it feels far longer. But I'd like to know what's happening to my body?" Jeff didn't like how nonchalant Jet was being.
"We can work this out after we find a place to stay. Alright, all done." Jet crossed his arms, happy with the way the bridge looked.
"You went a little overboard." Kayley eyed the magnificent bridge. It arched up and had a solid railing. On each end of the bridge, we're statues of some creature. Never seen a creature like that."
"If she ever wakes up, you can. But Alex seems to be silent. Not sure what is wrong with her." Jet frowned, trying to nudge Alex awake, which felt odd since it was all in his head. Then he wondered if that was where she was located. Maybe he had been nudging the wrong spot.

"What?" Kayley's eyebrow raised.
Jet took off across the bridge. "Don't worry about it." He waved back at her.
Jeff went after him. "So, I got some magic in me now? Can you train me to use it?" Jeff asked excitedly.
Jet turned to look at Jeff. "Not sure I could help you. Your magic is slowly making its way through your body. I'd give it a week to try anything. However, I will give you some breathing techniques that may help." At some point, Jeff had stopped listening looking up. "Earth to Jeff."
"Huh, oh, sorry. There seems to be a lot of rubies nearby." Jeff just stared off towards a spot above them.
Jet, curious, created a fireball and let it float towards that spot. Sure enough, red rubies sparkled in the light. "You are going to have one interesting power."
"No kidding, he's been spotting all kinds of stuff. Not just gems, but a lot of metals as well. So we should climb up there to get them." Kayley clapped her hands.
"Climb? I'm done with that." Jet created a small staircase up to the rubies. "Ok, there you guys go."
"What are you going to be doing?" Jeff asked.
"Looking for us a new place to stay." Jet looked around to see if anyone was around. If some were, they were nonmagic users. Plus, he went further away to get away from people. Now he was going to have a bit of fun. Creating a few fireballs, he let them loose in the same direction. But making sure they didn't fallow a line so he could see the walls, which went horribly. The direction he had picked had a wall no more than twenty feet away. "This place is just too stinking dark."
"What are you doing?" Kayley asked.
"Oh, trying to find us a new cave to live in." Now Jet tossed a fireball down. After a few minutes, it disappeared. "Huh."
"What's wrong?" Jeff asked.
Jet ignored Jeff and then used five percent of his magic to toss an exploding fireball. After another minute, it hit the ground, exploding and lighting up the place. What he could make out was what he had suspected. They were climbing pillars that must be holding up the ceiling. "Wow, so they are pillars."
"How fast did you toss that fireball?" Jeff asked.
"I have no clue. But not as fast as I can." Jet had never clocked a fireball to see how fast it could go. But now he was curious.
"Can you give me a close estimation? Also, is it going the same speed all the way down? Does gravity affect the speed?"
Jet crossed his arms and cocked his head in thought. "I've never thought about the speed, and I doubt gravity is a factor. I have never seen my fireball fall. Just go straight."
"Ok, so let's say it was going around fifty miles per hour. Going straight down over a minute. So I'd say the floor is around a mile below us, give or take." Jeff looked down into the blackness.

"Why do we care how far down the floor is?" Kayley asked.
"A floor with pillars holding up the world could be interesting." Jet, in the meantime, tossed more fireballs around, looking for a flat wall.
"I wonder if they know they're mining these pillars." Jeff patted the rocks.
"Well, there are a few broken ones from what I've just seen. So the world will not have a hole in it quite yet. I'm starting to wonder if the people here found that elevator." Jet looked to the others and pointed up. "We should grab those rubies before we head down."
"Hang on. We can't go too far since we only got a day's rations. We must climb back up and get enough ores or gems to turn in." Kayley put a dampener on their plans.
"Right, if I get a good night's rest, I can purely run off magic for a week before hunger pains set in. Depending on magic usage, I can stay awake for over two weeks. The longer I stay awake, the slower I get magic back." Jet figured it didn't help them in the least.
Kayley stared at Jet in wonder. "How? Magic don't work like that."
"Yours don't. My body creates its own source of magic. From what I can tell, your body absorbs something from the air. Jeff's gem seems to be creating his magic." Jet looked over at her." Kayley, you should feel pretty good down here. There is a lot of magic in the air."
"Now that you mention it. I do feel better now. But I thought that was because the bracelet blocking my magic."
"Maybe, given a few days, I can teach you somebody enhancements." Jet frowned inwardly as he remembered his disciple.
"Will that help with needing to eat?" Kayley asked.
"What? No, of course not. That has to do with using magic on your organs. I want to see if I can train you to use body enhancements. Since you have a sword, we could spar. I'll need time to make the staircase down. That bridge there took about twenty percent of my magic to make. I've also used up quite a bit with the fireballs. So we need a base of operation first." Jet explained.
"What's my objective in this plan?" Jeff asked.
"You two will need to stockpile some ores and gems since you seem to sense them somehow. Then we can bring them in early and head right back." Jet stopped to think. 'You know, I bet they won't like having to do all that work. This plan makes it look like I'm being lazy.'
"That should be fine. It sounds like a solid plan. Better than just mining relentlessly to live." Kayley nodded in agreement.
Jeff eyed her quizzically. "You know we're going to be mining relentlessly anyways?"
"It's like you said. We only need so much to turn in. No point in giving extra. Jefferson, we can collect the stuff quicker ourselves." Kayley pointed out.
"I can also help with the mining. My magic will run out quickly, making the stairs." Jet had not expected Kayley to interrupt him.
"Won't work. You will get further and further down. It would take you too long to come back up to help." Kayley said.
"Why not just use several ropes to get down? Would be quicker." Jeff asked.
"Doubt they would give us a mile of rope. I could try to make poles with the rocks. But I wouldn't slide down them. I can only smooth them out so much. Not to mention something that skinny might break while going down. Look how big I made that bridge." Jet pointed at the bridge that they only could see part of. The dark seemed to eat everything away.
"Ok, then, will we be able to do all this in one week? That's how long we were sentenced to be down here." Jeff pointed out.
"Please, we are never getting out of here. I've been a slave for years now. Trust me. We are never getting out of here." Kayley put bluntly.
Jet just shrugged. "If they have us go back up, guess we will do something else."
"Ok fine, so where are we making the base of operations?" Jeff asked.
"I haven't found a cave yet." Jet looked around.
"Why not just make one?" Kayley pointed at the wall.
Jet just stood there dumbfounded. Why had he not thought about that? "I could do that, I guess. It will have to be small. I used too much magic today. But, my body seems to be recharging magic quickly. Will take me five hours to get back to full." Jet chuckled and added. "Maybe I'll get back down to my hour eventually."
"Hold on, you only need five hours of rest to regain the magic you use, and that's slow?" Kayley looked at Jet in awe.
"Yeah, it seems to go down the more I use my magic. But the problem is I keep hurting myself by using too much magic at once. I need to stop using too much all at once for a while, and I should be as good as new." Jet put his hand on the wall and got to work.
"Ok, Jefferson, we should probably get busy as well." Kayley dragged Jeff up the stairs. Jet had made for them.
Jet used the extra rock to make a bigger balcony for them to walk around. He missed the days of pushing around dirt. It was so much easier than moving rock. A smile formed as he thought back to the days with the girls. Then boiled over in anger when the scene of watching Ileana blow up flashed through his mind. Everyone talked about how powerful he is, yet he couldn't even protect close friends.

Path of Righteousness
What do you desire? What are you afraid of? You run away from one, pursuing the other. Is that all you are? Conquer your fears. Dig to the bottom and confirm, what you really want... ...For you cannot escape suffering and death. You only have a little time. Use it wisely. Uru, a young boy with no talent for magic or fighting, sets out on a quest to become an avatar of order, the physical embodiment of righteousness, in a distant future, where control of origin energy allows people to defy physics and manipulate causality. Mocked by fate and broken by impossible dreams, all that's left is to stand in defiance to cruel existence. Because there is a Truth out there, somewhere. Singular, transcendent, eternal. What would you sacrifice for it? *** This is a fantastic sci-fi epic. It's going to blend both western and eastern traditional fantasy tropes – like might & magic and cultivation – with rational sci-fi grounded fully in reality, to produce a purely fictional fairy tale. I'd like to deliver something light-hearted and yet wholly serious. An uplifting adventure exploring the unfathomable reaches of humanity, free of indecency, with a healthy dose of humorous banter, legendary beings, and most importantly – lots of exciting, firework-filled mayhem! I've tried reading many web novels, but there's a fundamental problem with them – the eastern ones are annoyingly repetitive, superficial and morally destitute, while western ones are often dark, convoluted and profane. There's only so much one can do to filter out the bad and try to fill in the gaps with their own imagination. It's one thing to eat tasty fast food, but if it's moldy and filled with toxins, then it's not only poisonous, but also disgusting. The appreciation of beauty and higher values is disappearing at an alarming rate. Although there are throngs of talented people out there, none of them are creating what I want to witness – an inspiring battle against impossible odds, ending in absolute victory. A triumph of the spirit so overwhelming, it crushes the spectator into his seat and takes his breath away. I'm looking for a real paragon, so now I'd like to try conceiving one. *** The MC's name comes from Tolkien's Elven dictionary in Silmarillion, 'Uru' meaning 'Fire', and 'Dagnir an Uruloki' meaning 'Slayer of Dragons'. *** Note: I'm neither a native speaker, nor an aficionado of literature – I've never written anything before, and despite proficient English my literary prowess is abysmal. It therefore takes me a painful amount of effort to polish the chapters and bring them up to par. Last year I wrote and posted some on FictionPress, but I stopped since it wasn't going anywhere. The appalling amount of filth and mediocrity being peddled in all the media nowadays – a result of no conspiracy to manipulate the masses, but plain supply and demand – is no longer just the triumph of form over substance, but most worryingly corruption of the latter. Who wants to read about ideals anymore? And yet, masses flock together to gobble up perversion and depravity. That being said, I can't rule out pitiful exposure as the culprit to my failure, so I am now once again trying to increase it here, possibly for the last time. If there are still human beings present, hungry or in need of a detox after eating too much garbage, make yourselves heard, so I can see a reason to continue the story. Otherwise it's pointless – I'm not going to make fodder for the masses, and I'm most certainly not going to throw pearls before swine. I'll simply stop writing altogether.
