《The First King of Beasts》Chapter 10 & 11

Seeing the new section that had appeared, Dustin touched it with his finger, and the tab switched to that one.

[Tamed Monsters]

-Jaguar

Seeing the beat on the list, Dustin got a bit of satisfaction.

He thought of returning with it, but that would take too long, and how were they going to cater for it? They weren’t exactly rich now were they? There wasn’t enough facilities to keep the Jaguar.

He eventually released it and removed it from the list of tamed monsters. It was too much of a responsibility in such an area where many people lived. If he was surviving in the jungle, that would be different.

He had accomplished what he set out to do, so he headed out of the forest. On his way out, he came across a green snake, but he wasn’t sure if he should take it or not.

If he did take it, food might not necessarily be a problem. In the slums there were almost no shortage of rat and mice supply, so food was guaranteed. What he didn’t know was whether his younger brother would be ok with a snake in the house.

“Why don’t I just call and ask.” Dustin said as he put his hand in the cross bag on his stomach.

After chatting with Sil, Dustin was genuinely shocked to find out that his brother liked snakes. “I swear, that kid’s getting weirder and weirder by the day.”

He proceeded with the necessary steps, and after he tamed the snake, he put it away in the system. It was more convenient that way.

It didn’t take long, and Dustin had arrived home. As he noted earlier, his physical condition was good and had changed entirely from what it was. From the forest back to the city, Dustin only made one stop to rest. This was actually impressive if one considered the slops and little hills the road formed.

He went into the house, and after reaching the top floor where their room was, he remembered something that forced him back down.

It would be weird for Sil if Dustin suddenly started removing things out of thin air, and Dustin himself wasn’t ready for the explanation. He went around and before long managed to find the answer to his solution.

Around the corner, he found a waste bag lying on the ground, so he used that to store everything he took from the warehouse, leaving only the big ones that didn’t fit. All in all, everything he took out filled up to eleven of those leathers. Some he didn’t put because carrying everything would only be a problem for him.

*Knock *Knock

“Sil, it’s me. Open up.”

The moment Sil opened the door, he’s jaw started sagging little by little, like prisoner’s trousers.

Where exactly did he’s brother rob? Sil wondered. He wasn’t greedy enough to think Old cub would be so generous.

“Where the heck did you get all these things!?” Sil exclaimed, but made sure to lower his voice as to not arouse any suspicion from the neighbours. This, for he knew. The greatest enemy of an army was an unreliable companion.

“How about you help me in first?” Dustin responded with a light expression on his face.

Later that day, Sil would be very busy going through and arranging everything inside the black leathers. Dustin also introduced the snake, and through the system he found out it was a Green Mamba. Dustin assured Sil that the snake was ok, but since his younger brother knew of he’s previous capabilities, he didn’t trust his words completely.

While they prepared for the coming apocalypse, everyone else was also doing the same, and in some other places, the atmosphere and preparation was quite different.

.

.

Elsewhere, in a luxurious mansion, a man sat on a chair made of unknown black metal and gold. He’s upper half was shrouded in darkness within the poorly lit room.

“Are they yet to come?” He asked.

“No lord, they have. They just arrived. Should I summon them?” A hooded man standing before him answered.

“Hmm.”

A few moments later, three men entered the dimly lit room and bowed before the man who sat on the chair.

“Lord.” The hooded man said.

“Father.” Two other voices sounded behind the hooded man.

“You two are finally here. I hope you know why I have summoned you.” The man said.

Although the two had called him father, he didn’t seem to place any special treatment on them.

The two voices responded with a grin on their faces, that was barely visible in the room.

“Yes father.”

Four of them turned towards another door that was on the wall that had the chair pressed against.

Through that door, they left the room with dim red lighting, and headed inside. The room they were in now was well lit with fluorescent bulbs, and it was more spacious than the former.

The well lit room was long and narrow, but had enough space in between the walls to fit a group of six people, so it was spacious enough. The walls by each side had several compartments in them with glass covering the outside part.

These compartments housed several things. From weapons to clothes, and some pieces of metal or unknown material that resembled old amour, it was all there inside these show glasses.

“In the records left by our ancestors, there is mention of the end of the world. A time where death becomes the norm, and all things are forced to survive in a brutal and unforgiving surrounding. Through our ancestors, we have learned that there will be an attack on all that is living, by monsters from another realm, that will over power us in all way.” The man said as he stared at the three before him.

“But, amidst this chaos, those who possess the power to fight against these monsters and oppose the unfair chaos shall arise. We, of the Gennan Order, shall be the ones to stand above everything, and stand at the pinnacle of the chaotic world.” He lifted his hand above his head, then clenched his fist.

“In order to transcend and carry out the great plan our fore fathers couldn’t accomplish. Everything in this room is each a gift left behind by the first ancestor in order for us, his descendants to able to survive the coming chaos. Our generation is the one to carry out this task that has been passed down for ages. We will not fail.” The man’s expression and words oozed seriousness and determination as he spoke each word.

“We will not fail, father.” The two boys answered in unison.

“You must not.”

“Both of you. Marcel, Nathan, you two have been branded with the mark since a young age. You will both be chosen, as you already know.” The man said.

“Yes father.” They responded in unison again.

“Come with me. I will personally pick everything that will be needed. Since things from this realm can’t cross over, you will each take a storage pouch where everything will be stored.”

They went on, and the man picked specific equipments and other things from the compartments, and handed it over to the young men. After he was done picking, they headed out of the room.

The first day went by, and it passed. The second day which was also the last rolled by, and it also past. Then the Last day, the D-day came.

“Well Sil, it’s today. Let’s head to the roof so we’ll get a good view.”

“Yeah.” Sil responded as they left their room and went to the roof.

From the roof, they could see a lot of the city, except for the other parts that had some complexes blocking the view. It was around 8:00 am, those who came out to wait for the apocalypse were outside, while majority remained indoors.

“Hey bro, I was gonna ask. Why did you bring so much meat? We are not carnivorous animals you know?”

“Shut up. It’s mostly dried meat anyway. If whatever is coming cuts out the market from us, at least we’ll have enough meat to last us for several months. I’m just thinking ahead.”

“Sureee.”

.

.

“Today is the day. I can see you two are prepared.” A man said as he looked at two young men standing before him. This man was the current leader of the Gennan order, Arnold Burchard.

Between the brothers, Marcel was the older one while Nathan was the younger brother. Marcel was 34 years old, and Nathan was 25. Disregarding their age difference, both look almost like twins, except for the fact that one is visibly older than the other, embodying the full features of their father.

“It will be hectic, but you two are prepared, and will surely be able to survive, this I’m sure. If not for nothing, for the single fact that you are my own blood and flesh.”

Just as the man was about to say something else, a familiar voice rang in their ears.

-People of Earth. The day has come. Ready yourselves.

-Those with the most potential and chance for survival will be chosen as earth’s warriors.

-...

It was the voice they had heard a few days before. Just like before, it was like someone spoke directly to their minds, but they could still hear the voice with their ears.

At that exact moment, all around the world, a golden light started appearing around certain individuals. Those who the golden light shone upon couldn’t move past a certain distance from where they stood, as the golden light that shown around them seem to be restricting their movements.

This caused an up roar all over the world. Family members burst out in tears, and people collapsing everywhere. Those who tried to break the through the golden light, both from within and out, all failed.

-In 3 minutes, the chosen warriors will be transported to a different realm.

The two brothers, Marcel and Nathan were surrounded by a bright golden light as they stood before their father.

“The prophecy has finally come father.” Marcel said, with a stern face that resembled his father’s, only difference being that he was younger.

“It is so. The messenger said three minutes, so listen carefully.” Their father, Arnold said, as his eyes narrowed.

“Your goal is to survive and come out on top. Do not show mercy to anyone. Where you are going to is not earth, be ruthless, lest you lose your life. If you ever encounter anyone from the Willow order, kill them. Our brothers from Gent will support you, so whenever you meet, be accommodating. The rest I believe you know well.”

“Yes father.” Both answer in unison.

“Father, about those from Willow, do we really need to treat all of them in the same way?” Nathan asked as he’s brows pushed together a bit, showing seriousness, or perhaps worry.

“You still hold feelings towards that Willow girl? She will be your downfall Nathan. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.” Arnold said.

“I should have killed her back then” Words escaped under his breath before he spoke out. “You can not let her get between you and our goal. That will be betrayal. Do you understand?”

“Yes father.” He said with voice weak and a little saddened.

“Good. Farewell my sons, may the path open up for you.”

.

.

Elsewhere on a rooftop, Dustin and Sil were standing on the roof top waiting for when the apocalypse would start, when they heard a familiar voice in their ears.

The golden light had come over Dustin and two others that were also standing on the roofs of two other buildings respectively.

“Wah!! Bro what dafaq!? What’s this thing around you? Is it a sign that you have been chosen?” Sil asked, with surprise in his tone.

“It seems so. Heh.” Unlike Sil, Dustin didn’t seem to be surprised at all. Instead, he maintained a calm state and looked around their neibourhood to see if there was someone else who had been chosen.

The golden light was quite bright, so he noticed the two who were on other building tops right away, but he couldn’t find any other person. While looking over the visible plane with Sil at his back, then took in a deep breath. “3 minutes huh?”

“Sil, listen.” He said as he turned back to face Sil.

“I know that you are smart. For fuck’s sake, you’re turning twenty soon, heh.”

“Can’t you give a good speech without ruining the moment? I agree I’m smart, but you are dumb.”

“You bitch. Anyway, I’ll leave this guy here.” Dustin said as he summoned the Jaguar he tamed earlier, from the system space.

“Wahh!!” Sil jumped with his frail sickly body, in complete terror. He knew he’s brother’s limits, so seeing a tiger scared him.

“Calm down! You spineless human. I’ve tamed the big guy, so he won’t hurt ya. Sheesh.”

“When did you become able to tame a dog, not to talk of a tiger! Or, is that a Jaguar?” Sil said while still maintaining his distance.

‘This guy’s actually quite knowledgeable.’ “Don’t worry and come closer. You’ll make him think you hate him. He’s harmless.”

“How did you know that? You can talk to animals now?”

“Yeah, something like that.”

“What!?”

Sil moved closer, but not too close.

Dustin explained to him some things that concerned how he was going to survive in the apocalypse, and where he kept some necessities and important stuff which he had hidden away in case of robbers and buglers. He also gave out all the commands he needed the Jaguar to follow while he wasn’t around. Also, as a safety measure, Sil was to stand near the door, in case Dustin’s taming came undone after he left.

They finished their goodbyes in time, just before the voice returned.

-The chosen ones will now be transported to a different realm in five seconds.

As it said that, the timer started immediately.

As the timer reached 1, the light surrounding those that had been chosen shone brightly for a moment, completely engulfing those within it. After the light disappeared, those within it were no more. They had gone somewhere alien, where their lives would be under constant danger and tests, all for the fate of humanity.

Arnold sent he’s sons off with a final nod as they disappeared, while at the same time, a drop of tear rolled down one eye as Sil watched his brother disappear. Sil’s eye brows frowned as they closed the gap between them.

“Goodbye brother. You will survive. I know it.”
