It was finally the day, everyone of them gathered at the front of the village except Andrew. Michael woke up noticing Andrew was not at home, thought he had gone ahead of him due to excitement but he was still nowhere to be found. “Tch, he ended up ditching the mission without saying anything. He never really changed after all”, George snorts angrily. Even Michael has an obvious frown on his face but doesn’t let it gets to his mind since he had been with Andrew and he hasn’t once said he would do something and at the last moment gave up, so he chooses to still believe in Andrew. “Maybe something is holding him up that’s why he is late”, Joshua said but the manner in which he said it is obviously not portraying that even him believes what he has just said and was just saying it in order to calm George down. “Yeah, maybe he is being held up by something important that’s why he hasn’t arrived yet”, Michael finally says in defense of Andrew, with a smile on his face. “If we wait for half an hour more and he still hasn’t come, we should get going”, George says still wanting to give Andrew the benefit of doubt. But even after waiting for half an hour, there was still no sign of Andrew anywhere, even his shadow could not be seen from afar, “He ran us down at the end”, Joshua says. George just snorts and keeps silent while Michael’s frown deepens, he was obviously angry at this new development. “Let’s go then”, Michael couldn’t help saying, he didn’t want to hold down the task at hand cause of Andrew whom he wasn’t still sure would be coming. “Yeah”, Joshua replies. They all stood up and were about moving when a shout could be heard from afar, “Hey, sorry I held you guys up. I was busy and didn’t expect it to take this long, I am so sorry”, it was obviously the voice of Andrew whom was running down towards them kicking up a huge amount of dust in the distance. “See, I said he must have been held up”, Joshua says awkwardly with a disbelieving look on his face, he had thought Andrew had abandoned them. Michael just looks at Joshua and snorts before sighing in relief, Andrew has got all of them riled up after all due to his absence and lateness. George just keeps quiet while staring at the figure running towards them in the distance. When Andrew keeps getting closer and closer to them, the expression of the three hunters turns ugly with that of Michael being the worse, at almost the same time. They had thought of asking him what had held him up that made him this late but from what he was carrying while running towards them, they were able to discern the reason behind it and almost couldn’t help to run towards Andrew and beat him to pulp.

As Andrew keeps running towards them, there was a gourd tied around his waist and another gourd hung on his shoulders which waved as he ran down. He got towards them breathing hardly, after calming his breath down, he raised his head up to the ugly expressions which the three of them were carrying. Andrew was shocked as he took a step back and couldn’t help asking in a tone that displays his fear, “I know I came super late but is that the reason you all have such faces on?”. The question which Andrew asked made their faces more darker, just one more word from him would make them to pounce on him after all he had been warned many times to give up his wine drinking habit for now due to the importance of the task at hand which would need their full attention and him being intoxicated was the last thing they wanted during the mission.
“What’s that around your waist and on your shoulder?”, even Michael couldn’t hold it in as he asks in an annoyed tone. “Oh this”, Andrew says while looking towards the gourd like it was his most prized treasure, “I couldn’t help going down to the bar to buy some good wine. These are all the expensive wines available in the bar, I would have taken more but the shop owner only has this quantity, I didn’t believe him at first and searched all over thinking that he might be cheating me by hoarding the remainder all to himself but guess he was truthful as I didn’t find any left. Tch, he should have stocked up on more”, Andrew continued while both explaining and complaining about the shop owner. He didn’t notice that George and Michael had their hand crackling as if holding their urge to punch through his face, only Joshua had his hands on his head while shaking his head as if having given up. “I thought we said no more alcohol until after the mission is completed?”, George couldn’t help asking fully angry. “Of course I don’t know if this would be my last mission so I had to have my partner with me and it had to be the best of it all”, Andrew said as if he was saying something obvious and anyone whom doesn’t get it should be dumb. Andrew doesn’t notice that Michael was holding onto the helm of George’s shirt in order to prevent him from taking drastic measures. Joshua on noticing the tense atmosphere tries to defuse it by saying, “As long as you won’t hold us back, that’s fine then. We have taken too much time than we expected just outside the forest, we should start going in”. “You don’t have to worry about it holding me back. It would instead make me fight at my best and optimum output”, Andrew said with a proud grin on his face which would make anyone want to punch him, George almost escapes the hold of Michael and lands a punch on Andrew but he was held back tightly and Andrew seems to notice that he was moving towards him and stepped back in fear. “What do you want to do?”, Andrew couldn’t help to ask with a loud voice. It seems like he was trying to annoy everyone present but they were all seasoned hunters present and knew how to control their emotions so everything was quickly in check once again. George snorts before saying, “You better don’t. If not I would kill you before any beast gets to you”. “Yeah, I heard you”, Andrew answers picking his nose while sipping from the wine gourd which was on his shoulder obviously in full mockery of George’s warning like what he was saying didn’t matter to him one single bit. He was obviously mocking George, but George just ignores him knowing it would be better he saved his energy for the battle to come rather than wasting it on a kid whom wasn’t half his age. Although he and Andrew has been on various hunting expeditions, they weren’t really close and usually had several skirmishes. Everyone knew that apart from Michael, Andrew didn’t really respect any other person in the village, the village head included. “Knock it off Andrew. George is correct, don’t hold us back, a minor mistake might lead to the death of us all”, Michael says in an admonishing tone. This time around, Andrew takes the warning seriously as if he was a different person as he nods his head gravely while putting on a solemn expression.

“Alright y’all. Although we have wasted a lot of time, let’s get on with the business at hand”, Michael pauses to see if he had gathered their attention before continuing, “Watch each other backs closely and if anyone of us is in a life threatening danger, the freest person should try his best to come to his rescue. The mission at hand is important but our lives matters more cause only if we are alive can we enjoy the fruit of our labor”. Everybody was riled up as they nodded their heads, every and all kinds of issues needs to be put behind as they entered into the forest no matter how grave the issue was. Everyone of them understood this rule as even Andrew and George although having had their skirmishes, protected each other while in the forest from any kind of harm. They all drew out their weapons with the tips touching each other, they synched their breathing before sheathing their weapons back and walking towards the forest. The forest at this time was like the jaw of a tiger, who knows if they would all be able to come out alive at the end of it all. A life changing story is about to occur and no one knew what kind of trick fate has in play.

Delve
Summary – Level 1: Delve is an isekai litrpg that follows an average guy who just happened to wake up in a forest one day. He wasn’t summoned to defeat the demon lord or to save the world or anything like that, at least as far as he can tell. The only creature there to greet him was a regular old squirrel. Soon enough, he meets other people, only to discover that he can’t speak the language, and that not everybody immediately trusts random pajama-wearing strangers they met in the middle of the wilderness. Things generally go downhill from there, at least until the blue boxes start appearing. Delve is a story about finding your way in a new, strange, and dangerous world. It’s about avoiding death, figuring out what the heck is going on, and trying to make some friends along the way. It’s not about getting home, so much as finding a new one. Did I mention that there will be math? Summary – Level 2: Okay, but what are you in for, really? Well, this story is supposed to be realistic, or at least, as realistic as a fantasy litrpg can be. The main character doesn’t instantly become an all-powerful god and murder-hobo his way across the universe. Delve is, at its heart, a progression fantasy, but that progression is meant to feel earned. The numbers in this story actually mean something. Everything is calculated, and if you find a rounding error, I expect you to tell me about it. That said, if math isn’t your cup of tea, there is plenty more that the story has to offer. Characters are meant to feel real, and progression isn’t only about personal power; it’s also about allies, connections, and above all, knowledge. Figuring out how the system works is a significant theme. ... What, you want more details? Okay, fine, but this is going to get a bit spoiler-y. Are you sure? Yes! Really sure? I mean, this summary is practically half as long as the first chap– Now! Okay, okay! The main character becomes a magic user, but he takes a route that is not very popular in adventurer culture, namely that of a support. There is a full magic system with various spells, skills, and abilities, but our MC decides that aura magic is the way to go, and that the only stat worth investing in is mana regeneration. Most people at the Adventurer’s Guild think that this makes him a bit of a dumbass, but he’s playing the long game. We’ll see how that works out for him, won’t we? Because of his build, the MC levels up fast, at least compared to normal people. There are no cheats, though, and he is limited in other ways. There are some clear and pretty obvious downsides to his build. That’s what makes it fun, no? Morals? Our MC has them. Again, we’ll see how that works out for him. Realism, remember? Would you be okay with killing someone and looting their body? I sure hope not. POV? The focus is on the main character, but there will be occasional varying perspectives from people around him, or involved in the events related to the main plot. It isn’t going to jump all over the place. Tech is standard medieval stasis. No smartphones, but the MC does have a technical background. Computers and their programming might be involved. There might even be a bit of uplifting down the road, who knows? Anyway, it isn’t the focus. He isn’t going to invent the gun in chapter 1 and change the face of warfare. Romance is not a major focus. Friendships are more the name of the game, though there will be some characters in romantic relationships. There is exploration, though not as much of the geographical nature as you might expect. It is more about exploration of the system and the culture. The pace is slow and detailed, sometimes verging on slice-of-life. The action is meant to be realistic and grounded in the numbers, and it is intended to have meaning beyond simply punching things until they stop moving. The general tone of the story is grey, and some parts can get quite dark. People die. Sometimes, people with names, but not anywhere near GoT level. There is plenty of light, too, though, to balance the darkness. The world is dangerous, but overcoming that danger is why we’re all here, isn’t it? Anyway, if you’ve made it this far through the summary, you clearly like words. I hope you enjoy the story! Cover by Miha Brumec Summary Updated: 2020-06-14
