《An Ancient's Leisure》Chapter 42

Although the world was being invaded, Johnny's life was still quite leisurely. He felt a small amount of urgency from the tribulation and used it to push himself to the sixth stage, but after that, the motivation was gone, so he spent his days quietly at his parents’ house.
Johnny was sitting down, controller in hand as he pelted the alien invaders with headshots.
Mary Rose sat next to him and did the same. Together they were rolling through waves of alien invaders.
“So we're being invaded?” Mary Rose says as she kills another alien invader.
“Yup.” Johnny says, getting another headshot.
“Hmm.” Mary Rose says, unsure how to feel about that. “Should I be worried?” She asks.
“Nope.” Johnny says.
“But I’m still worried.” Mary Rose says.
Johnny raises an eyebrow. “Why?” He asks.
Mary Rose lets out a sigh. “We’ve been together so long, and even throughout all the cheating I’ve been faithful to you. I even told you about the kiss I had with that wizard. Remember? I was crying and super anxious. But you still continue to sleep with random women. And I’m still here. I love you so much and you don’t even care.” She says, displeased.
Johnny raises an eyebrow. “What? Do you want me to marry you?” He asks, somewhat worried.
Mary Rose frowns and shoots an alien in the head. “What do you think? Idiot.” She says, feeling more and more upset.
Johnny lets out a sigh. “Mary Rose, you know how I feel about that. This life is ephemeral. Marrying you is a sort of spell, it’s a spell of possession; in the next life, this sort of life will only be a sort of hindrance to you. The world is greater than this Mary Rose; there’s so much to see and experience. And I’m just a man. I don’t want to burden your future.” He says. Johnny understood quite well how promises of eternal love matched up to the greater universe. Before the heavens, what man understood as eternal love, was miniscule. Not to mention the insincerity of most of these confessions and the vast number of failures before this great task, even considering success, in the greater world, this sort of declaration would only be a regret in the next life. Each person was a river, each with their own fates outside this world, and each person had the majesty of god; it is blasphemy to possess god, to constrain potential out of selfishness.

Mary Rose furrows her brows. “What if we live for a thousand years? Will you still not marry me?” She asks.
Johnny shakes his head. “A thousand years is nothing.” He says.
“What if we live for ten thousand years?” Mary Rose asks again, her voice angrier.
Johnny lets out a sigh, not saying anything.
“What if we live for a million years?” Mary Rose asks once more. Eventually, she was unable to hold in her feelings and tears began to flow out of her eyes. “What if we lived forever, Johnny? Would you still not marry me?” She asks, putting down the controller and looking into Johnny’s eyes.
Johnny puts away the controller and caresses Mary Rose’s face. “Baby. Why are you doing this? Think of your future? I should just be a stepping stone for you. Before the greatness of your whole life, your next life and the life after that, I’m nothing Mary Rose.” He says, his heart aching. The heavens were relentless, time moved on ruthlessly, and entropy moves forward no matter what. Johnny wasn’t quite sure that Mary Rose knew what she was asking. To Johnny, this could only be a mistake, for both of them.
Tears flowing, Mary Rose looks on in yearning. “I still want to marry you.” She says, firm in her decision.
Johnny lets out a sigh and leans in to kiss this vulnerable lady’s soft lips. “Then let’s make this mistake together.” He says, deciding to move forward.
Mary Rose couldn’t help but smile before more tears began to flow, happiness adding to the turbulent flow. Eventually, Mary Rose didn’t know whether she was laughing or crying.
Johnny doesn’t care and kisses her again. “Oh, baby. Although we’ll both regret this, I don’t care. From now on, your soul is mine.” He says as he lays Mary Rose onto the couch.

Mary Rose lets out a sigh of relief. Through all of these chaotic emotions, she felt a sort of bliss that she has never experienced before. Lowering her own majesty before Johnny was like lowering herself to god, and in that moment she saw the vast heavens and angels smiling down on her. She felt a rapture that she has never felt before. “Use me as you please.” She says, submitting herself to the heavens.
