《An Ancient's Leisure》Chapter 28

Johnny answers the phone.
“Senior. I would like the monster taming inheritance.” Leo says, deciding on the matter.
Johnny raises an eyebrow. “Oh? Do you have time for that? How's the war going?” He asks.
“The war has somewhat settled. The Cloud Riders have found out that their princess has become a vampire, and their energy has slowed. I think some of them are beginning to wonder if it's worth it.” Leo says.
Johnny smirks. “I think it's even more worth it. You should encourage them to fight harder.” Johnny says with a chuckle.
“Senior, I’m willing to be your servant for the monster taming inheritance.” Leo says firmly.
“Hmm.” Johnny says. “Are you sure you want it? This technique requires a trained spiritual sense, and a training method for that is another matter.” Johnny says.
“I’m willing to serve you for 10 years!” Leo says.
Johnny smiles. “Okay. Come to Movie Capital, I’ll be waiting for you.” He says before ending the call.
…
…
Johnny hears a knock on the door and exits the shower. Johnny puts on a towel and goes to the entrance to open the door.
“Greetings, senior.” Leo says with a bow.
“Come in.” Johnny says with a wave of his hand. He was alone in the hotel and the girls had left for the beach. Johnny was a little lazy so he slept in, but he would meet them later.
“Just let me get dressed.” Johnny says before going to the bedroom to change.
When Johnny came back out, he was dressed and had two bound books with him. He handed them over to Leo. “Enjoy.” He says with a smile before picking up his keys. “Do you want to look it over for a bit? I’m just going to the Stellar Beach, I’ll be back sometime in the afternoon.” He says.
Leo nods. “Okay.” He says.
“Okay.” Johnny says before exiting the hotel room.
…
…
Johnny walks over and sees the girls standing over a body. Johnny raises an eyebrow and walks over. “What happened?” He asks as he glances at the dead body.

Lucy lets out a bitter smile and shakes her head. “The vampire tried to use a bewitching technique to get Mary Rose to sign an acting contract.” She says before gesturing to the snake. “Then Slinky went into action. I shielded the area with a spell, but I’m not sure what to do about the body.” She says.
“Damn.” He says before giving a thumbs up to Slinky. “Good job, Slinky.” He says before thinking it over. He remembers his last encounter with vampires; they had interrupted him at the hottest most crucial moment. Naturally, Johnny didn’t want that to occur again. Johnny eventually decides on the matter. “We have to wipe out the den.” He says.
Mary Rose raises an eyebrow but stays silent.
Lucy frowns. “We can’t do that. The vampires of movie capital are all deeply connected and deeply ingrained into the operations of this city. If we rock the boat we could be biting off more than we can chew.” She says, warning Johnny of the matter. It wasn’t like they belonged to any major powers; there were boundaries in the things they could do and they couldn’t act without a care.
Johnny frowns. “First, let’s track the den. If we can destroy one of this monster’s limbs today, let’s do it. If not, we’ll back out. But for now we have to cover up all traces of this murder.” He says.
Lucy nods and Johnny quickly gets to work.
…
…
“Incredible. Senior is surely a formidable person.” Leo says with a sigh as he closes the book. He needed to take a bathroom break.
Leo goes to the bathroom and raises an eyebrow. The was a pendant with an egg-sized black gem on it.
“Hmm? Senior left his pendant.” He says before picking up the black gem. Leo nods and decides to bring it back to Johnny. After all, he’s agreed to be a servant, so Leo thought he should perform well. If performed admirably, he might even be rewarded with more powerful inheritances. Leo smiles and decides to leave immediately.
Leo exits the garage in his rental and begins to drive to Stellar Beach. A light began to turn yellow and Leo steps on the gas. But suddenly, a sports car wanted to catch the yellow to turn left from the opposite side of the road, going at a very fast speed. “Idiot!” Leo yells, but he couldn’t stop it. The sports car rams into the side of Leo’s rental, hitting his side of the vehicle.

Rocked and battered, Leo’s vehicle crashes into a sidewalk railing and stops. Leo lets out a groan. He was bruised all over, and if he wasn’t a cultivator he would of died. With a weak body he exits the car.
Leo looks over and the sports car was also ruined. A man got out of the car and looks at Leo furiously. “You bastard! Are you not watching where you’re going? Do you know who I am? Do you know how expensive that car was!? It costs more than your life!” He yells angrily.
Leo frowns. “Fuck off.” He says. He didn’t want to mess around here. He just wanted to drop off Johnny’s pendant.
The man’s eyes widen. “What the fuck did you say? Huh, you little bitch? What the fuck was that?” He asks as he takes out a gun. “Say it again, bitch.” He says, his gun aimed at Leo’s head.
Leo frowns. “Bitch, I said fuck off.” He says before sprinting into action.
**BANG**
**BANG**
Leo watches the man’s aim and dodges the bullets before quickly sprinting over. He grabs the man’s neck and twists. As the man collapses onto the ground, he lets out a sigh. He takes out his phone and makes a call. “Hey, Reginald. I made a bit of a mess in Movie Capital, I was hoping you could help me clean up. Aphrodisiac? No, I don’t have any more. Okay, damn, I’ll try to get more. Just help me out with this. Okay, okay. I’ll send you the details. Bye.” Leo says before letting out a sigh.
He begins to take pictures of the cars, the road signs, and he took out the man’s wallet to take a picture of his identification card before sending it to Reginald.
Then Leo began to walk. Stellar Beach wasn’t far from here.
…
…
Leo was walking around Stellar Beach looking for Johnny when a vampire spotted him.
This vampire was here looking for another vampire he was supposed to meet, but he had disappeared and the call didn’t go through. Leo was the only other cultivator in the crowd, so the vampire became suspicious and walked over.
“Hey.” The vampire calls out.
Leo frowns and ignores him, continuing to walk.
The vampire frowns. “Hey, I’m calling you. Why are you walking away?” He says.
Leo frowns and turns around. “Bitch, what do you want?” He asks angrily. This day was already not going well, and this vampire was only making the matter worse.
The vampire’s eyes widen. “Asshole, have some respect. Do you know where we are? This is Vampire Heaven. Fucking know your place before speaking to me. Now tell me, what do you know about the vampire who disappeared here?” He says.
Leo frowns, then he thinks of Johnny; it was possible they had something to do with this. “I don’t know anything.” Leo says.
The vampire raises an eyebrow. “You hesitated, didn’t you? Bitch, you know something. You have to come with me.” He says before moving forward to act.
Leo immediately springs into action as well. They clash several times, a corrosive blood began to eat away at Leo’s skin. But Leo didn’t slow down, he sends a heavy punch to the man's liver, forcing him to crumple before twisting the vampire’s head.
Leo lets out several heavy breaths. What the fuck is going on today? He wonders.
Leo quickly disposes of the body, then calls Johnny.
“Hey, where are you?” Leo asks.
“We’re on Saint Mary’s and Saint Anne's. We’re doing some investigation. Why what’s up?” Johnny asks.
Leo lets out a sigh. “I’ll be over right away.” He says before ending the call. Leo looks up the location and sees the distance between where he was. He lets out a bitter smile. Can I even make it? He wonders.

Lost in a Dream
Published Monday, Wednesday, and Friday! If dreaming is a drug, then I'm a junkie. For most people, sleeping is an obstacle. Something to get out of the way, so they can get back to their life. For others, it's an escape to nothing, a blissful break from the wears of life. It's the opposite for me. I live so that I can dream; I work so that I can go home and close my eyes, awakening in the real world. My real world. After all, what is reality if not the place where dreams don't come true? Can you fight a dragon on your way home from work, or conquer a foreign land to save an oppressed people from their malevolent overlords after vacuuming the living room? Can you visit a land where mountains look like freshly baked phyllo dough, or live in a castle bigger than my apartment complex? Tigers instead of taxes. Monsters instead of men with too much power. Reality is just the word we came up with to accept a mundane life. A birthing place for grander ideas we wish could materialize. I choose to live in a world where they do.

The Paths of Magick
Credits: Story by Xcaliburnt. Cover Art by @Bervolart. Magick, the power to bend the laws of reality. All because of a mystical substance known as mana. Mages follow the Paths to achieve power, for there is no more addictive chase. Each Path winds and twists, forcing mages through the flames of adversity and challenge. Though the operative word is "path", the reality is far less straightforward. Instead of a road, Paths are like the branches of world trees, erupting into the heavens, intertwining, and ending in sharp snaps. Only the strongest reach the sky. There are several Paths, and many Ways to walk them—variations of the same Path, and like the stars, they are endless. Magick is the sacred flame that scours the fat, rendering the truest self. Superfluous flesh melting away to show the skeleton of one's being. A chance for ascension—apotheosis. Though not every mage works to godhood, if they survive long enough, It is inescapable. Witness the lives of those that tread the knife's edge of self-destruction. Each one intertwined in their search for answers, revenge, and, most of all: power. These individuals have all lost something precious—irreplaceable—and In search of filling the void left behind, they have taken up the mantle of a mage. Per aspera ad astra. Ad mortem vel divinitatis. (Through adversity to the stars. To death or divinity.) There is no consistent release schedule except my consistent inconsistency. Besides, there’s like a thousand pages worth of content, how can—you already read it? Goddamn. Oh, and there is a very long hiatus between volumes as I intend to edit and rewrite a lot. What to Expect: This story is progression fantasy, so expect a healthy dose of training. It's also heavy on slice of life, and it isn't entirely overarching-plot-driven. Expect characters to live their lives, and not always be on some quest to save the world. There's a lot of magic theory and discussion about it in the story. So, if you don't like impromptu lessons on sorcerous theory by traveling monster slayers, this might not be for you. But if you do like it, rejoice! For there is a lot of it. This is also heavy on prose, purple as a bruised eye. I use outdated, uneccesarily collegiate-level terms and play around with the writing style just for the heck of it. I find it fun to wax and wane poetic, and that might grate on you—I don’t plan to change this aspect of the Paths much if at all. Onto the viewer discretion is advised parts: This is grim-dark/ grim-heart. Take the tags seriously. There will be combat scenes that are brutal and horrifying. Fights to the death tend to be. This is a tale about medieval mercenaries (quite literal killers for hire), man-eating monsters, and eldritch gods beyond the material plane. Beside that, there will be traumatic events that are best left unread. I do not detail certain acts I find heinous enough, instead leaving some parts unwritten but still alludded to if not outright stated; there is simply no graphic narration thereof. This is not for the faint of heart.

Blood & Honey #1
~A Wattys and Fiction Award winner*A lion does not need an invitation from a lamb. That is not the way of the predator. Predators take what they want, when they want it, however they please. And this belief that I am, that evil is, enslaved by the dark night is humorous to say the least. Why would any creator make their pupil inept of withstanding the lighted world when this planet is covered in daylight for half of its life span? No, our Maker did not instill such restrictions for, up here on these earthly lands, we are the gods of prey. ~ Tristan There is only one rule vampires must follow--Bite Hard. It is forbidden for humans to know vampires exist so you can imagine Tristan Darkos's surprise when he finds one that knows what he is. He can tell by the tremble of her body, the thump-thump of her pulse, and her dilated pupils. He's going to have to finish what some other vampire started. The problem is when Tristan gets close to this human his blood turns to fire and the thirst that burns in his throat that should spell her doom twists until he's consumed by another need--one that is evocative, primitive, and...wrong.If Tristan doesn't figure out the mystery that is Kinley Shea Rylan, it is certain whatever dark force her honey blood is summoning forth will be the end of him and, possibly, the end of the world as we know it. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Author note: - This is an original work with my take on Vampires.
