Amara's heels made the same clicking sound they always did whenever the crazy bitch stepped into the dimly lit chamber. After throwing off her ragged cloak, she made her way toward me. Her creepy smile widened at my hands shackled to the wall above my head. I tried to sit up as she shook the iron links.
Amara crouched down and ran her fingers along the stubble of my cheek. “It’s almost time, handsome. You’ve kept me such wonderful company and given me so much information from your friendship with this ‘Aidan.’ I’m almost sad to part.” I stared into her silver eyes before she pressed our mouths together hard enough to make my lips bleed. “But our playtime and your usefulness have run their course.” She stood and walked towards the sanctuary door.
With her back to me, and her speed picking up, she waved goodbye. “I’m so glad we met at that university library, Dante. You’ve truly been a southern gentleman.” Her laugh echoed against the interior of The Saint Louis Cathedral before Amara faded into the background.
