《Arrogant Young Master becomes an Adventurer》7. Corruption -Lyonhall Arc
Advertisement
Hope was running dry for the Lyonhall guild-master. When he saw Jakari’s movement skill earlier, he couldn’t even detect Jakari as a high-gold ranked so that must mean Jakari’s real rank was at least low-platinum level or higher! However, the guild-master didn’t think Jakari wasn’t simply a platinum-ranked, he was probably in the highest tier which was diamond-ranked!
Sweat was pouring down the guild-master head and the other guild staff who were involved with his exploitation scheme also felt exasperated. There were many other money exploitation schemes that he used against the wood-ranks to funnel as much money from them into his pockets. He had to do something to appease the hidden guild inspector!
“Waive the 5 coppers fee for this gentleman here,” ordered the guild-master.
“Yes!” the guild-lady complied. “Please hand me over your wood-ranked band so I can exchange it for the mid-wood rank band.”
Jakari didn’t want to hand it over as it was proof he became an adventurer. He was about to open his mouth to ask if he could keep it but the guild-lady burst, “It’s okay if you want to keep it. Some people do, I will just get you your mid-wood rank band. Please wait.”
When the guild-lady handed over Jakari’s mid-wood rank band. He wore it on his right shoulder next to his low-wood rank band with the proudest grin on his face. Jakari fisted the air in the grand celebration of becoming a proper adventurer! So what if he was a wood-ranked adventurer? All adventurers had to start somewhere, and Jakari felt like a true genius being promoted so soon into the mid-wood rank!
Many people around Jakari were confused at how someone this powerful could be so happy about being a mere wood-ranked adventurer. The only people happy about this were the wood-ranked young snaggers that were cheering loudly for him as they all saw him as their master and hero against the coppers and bronze ranks!
But to the Lyonhall guild-master, this was simply Jakari showing him that he definitely knew of his money exploitation scheme against the wood-ranks! The cheering of the wood-ranked young snaggers confirms this! Jakari was definitely going to punish him and his henchmen and restore Lyonhall guildhall’s lost dignity.
The guild-master praised, “Young man for your splendid achievement! I have a great reward for you, waiting at my mansion. Please come with me.”
Jakari nodded that he would follow.
The high-gold rank guild-master sprinted as fast as he could towards his mansion with Jakari close behind. Jakari didn’t even know it was the guild-master's maximum speed, he thought the guild-master was only running at the wood-ranked speed to show his courtesy to the mid-wood rank Jakari.
As they approached the mansion, the guild-master shouted “Prepare the grand banquet at once! And make it special!”
The servants of the mansion instantly knew that someone of extreme importance had arrived and the secret phrase of making it special was invoked too! All the day-shift servants were abruptly woken up as they needed all the servants on-hand to make the grand banquet go as smoothly as possible.
On the doorsteps, two humble servants had already opened the door for them as they bow deeply to them as they walked by. “Welcome esteemed guest! Welcome master Blaze!”

The guild-master brought Jakari to the grand dining hall. There were many luxurious food items lined up for Jakari to dine on. Even though it was around 12:30 am. The grand dining hall was brimming full of servants scrambling to set everything up. Even more, luxurious food items were being brought out as they started to fill up the grand dining table.
The guild-master Blaze guided Jakari to the master chair at the center of the table. Jakari quickly sat down and began eating the food without even asking! Jakari simply thought this was probably what the life of an adventurer is like and that everyone around him was sucking up to him! They were all trash but if the trash wanted to give Jakari free things, he may as well accept them!
A sinful grin appeared on the guild-master face as he realized that his bribery over the secret guild inspector was working spectacularly! Now the guild inspector can no longer reveal his corruption scheme to the guild’s headquarters! The greedy guild-master Blaze wanted more than to keep his exploitation a secret, he wanted Jakari to become an informant for him.
Jakari was delightfully indulging in the many luxurious foods he had never experienced so far. His family always lived far away from civilization and were always constantly on the move in the wilds. So the food they always ate was usually animals or monsters that they killed with some random plants that they find. If Jakari knew that the life of an adventurer was this extravagant, he should have defied his parents and become an adventurer sooner! But he quickly squashed that thought as he should remain a filial son towards his parents.
While Jakari was enjoying himself, several of the guild-master Blaze’s daughters were being lined up in front of Jakari. The guild-master had many wives and many sons and daughters. Most of his daughters were being married off to shady important people to form a connection with them.
A lineup of a 14 years old girl, 15yo girl, 15 yo girl, 16yo girl, 17yo girl, 19 yo girl, and a 21 yo girl for a total of 7 daughters being shown off, and they were all dressed ‘nicely’. They were being escorted by a security team, making sure none of the girls could escape.
The eldest daughter scorned her father. “Father you @#[email protected]#$ piece of @#$%! It’s wrong to treat us like this! We are not your merchandise you give out to your rich shady friends!”
“Silence! Who is the one that gave you life and the life of luxury!? Don’t forget, if any one of you betrays me, the implanted magic stone inside your bodies will explode, killing you! You girls haven’t forgotten the death of Natasha right?”
She was one of his daughters who tried to report her father to the proper authorities but the magic stone had obliterated her. It was impossible for them to escape from him and this mansion. Although they were mostly used as pawns to marry off to form connections with other powerful people, the girls still lived in relative comfort and luxury. Most of the men they married had concubines and were mostly treated okay and still lived in luxury. However, the unlucky few do get married off to terrible abusive men.

The magic stone implanted in them wasn’t done so easily and required a diamond-rank person to do it. Lyonhall’s guild-master Blaze was also a pawn of a powerful underworld leader. The guild headquarters were completely unaware of the situation in Lyonhall as they were busy with much more important things. As long as all the wood-ranked adventurers became bronze-ranked adventurers, which was a 99.99% success rate, the guild main-headquarters couldn’t care less about Lyonhall so there was never a need to send any inspectors. They also had better things to do than investigate the exploitation of money from the wood-ranks.
At the same time, the guild-master was also the strongest person here so he was in-charged of everything in the town of Lyonhall. The justice for his daughters will never see the light of day for as long as they live. Saving the lives of thousands of people was much more important than saving the lives of the very few after all.
The daughters gritted their teeth as they knew their life was already determined for them the moment they were born. They all hoped that they would marry a somewhat decent man so they could still enjoy their life in relative luxury. Some of them do have dreams to do other things but as long as they live in this mansion, they couldn’t leave. They hope that the man they married would be able to allow them to accomplish the things they wished to do.
Jakari paid zero attention to the guild-master flaunting his daughters to him. The guild-master wanted to honeypot Jakari so badly as he was a powerful person with strong connections to the guild’s main headquarters.
“Any of my daughters that you fancy for marriage?” asked the guild-master with hopeful eyes.
There was no response for Jakari as he continued chomping down the food.
“If you are unable to decide, how about I give you all of them,” pressured the guild-master.
The light in all the daughter’s eyes shine up because they wouldn’t be separated from each other. At the same time, they all hoped for Jakari to treat them nicely at least and have more freedom.
“No,” stated Jakari.
“Why not? They are all beauties that will captivate any man! These girls are your reward for being such a splendid adventurer!” declared the guild-master.
A cold sweat went down Jakari’s forehead. He didn’t know that being a proper adventurer required this many wives! His mother was going to be extremely furious with him if he allowed all of these ugly women into his life. He looked at the guild-master and his eyes were shining warmly.
Jakari knew his family’s ideas of an adventurer were wrong and the person most qualified to know the life of an adventurer would be the guild-master and he wouldn’t dare lie to him! While Jakari thought it was perfectly fine to ignore other trash adventurers, he still wanted to be a proper adventurer and would listen politely to the guild. He realized he accidentally treated Celine like trash earlier as he forgot that she was a guild receptionist and remembered his mother’s wisdom. Jakari didn’t want to provoke the guild and was going to apologize to Celine as soon as possible. The only thing his father told him about the guild was to do things properly and not rashly while treating all other adventurers as trash.
“Okay,” said Jakari.
“You made the right choice!” exclaimed the guild-master as he happily shook the hands of his new informant in the guild’s main headquarters. “If you don’t have a place to stay, why don’t you stay in this mansion with your new wives.”
The servants led Jakari to his grand room. All of his wives were obediently following him inside.
When the security team left them alone, the eldest daughter stood in front of all her sisters. “You better not mistreat any of us!”
Jakari was sweating bullets that his mother will find out that he married 7 extremely ugly trash. He didn’t have any choice! He was only following the proper procedure in being an adventurer! The guild-master himself said so! He ignored the eldest daughter and was walking in circles as he pondered the correct course of action in his new situation.
The 7 daughters looked at each other and were confused about what their husband was doing.
“Maybe he’s a nice man?”
“Is he not going to hurt us?”
“I heard them talking about him being a diamond-ranked adventurer from the guild’s main headquarters.”
“Does that mean we married a good man?”
“Nah, he’s too shady, we can’t trust him yet.”
The 2nd oldest daughter left the group and approached Jakari. “Are you really someone from the guild’s main headquarters? Are you only pretending to marry us to grant us our freedom and report our father to the proper authorities?”
Jakari was still frantically walking around in circles as his brain was failing to compute of solution of being a proper adventurer and appeasing his mother. He didn’t even realize that the 2nd oldest daughter approached him. He thought about giving up being an adventurer to escape this predicament but he truly didn’t want to as being the strongest adventurer was his dream.
Suddenly the door to the grand room opened. The servants had brought 500 silver coins worth 500,000 coppers and presented them as a gift to Jakari. But Jakari was still completely oblivious to what is happening as his eyes were starting to turn dizzy from all this frantic circle walking.
Meanwhile, elsewhere in the mansion, Lyonhall guild-master was smiling brightly and cackling like a madman. “Hahahahahahahahhaha!” He had successfully bribed, blackmailed, and honeypotted a diamond-ranked guild inspector from the guild’s main headquarters. His money exploitation scheme of the wood-ranks will continue and he will live a life of luxury in this town of beginnings Lyonhall.

The Queen's Guard
Friedrich Schreiner is a proud gefreiter of the Queen's Guard, 2nd Company: the finest fighting infantry on the continent (barring the Temple Guard; but please don't bring that up). Service is honourable but, with the Empire on a peacetime footing, terribly boring. Affairs take a dramatic turn for the worse when a mysterious invader uses a forgotten and taboo magical means to breach the capital, plunging the nation into chaos and endangering the royal family. With events spiraling out of control, Friedrich is entrusted with a critical mission. Will hot lead, cold steel, and his determination be enough to see him through? The Queen's Guard is what I'm calling a black powder fantasy story: it's set in a loose equivalent of the early 18th century (plus or minus a few pieces I decided I wanted or didn't want). Magic exists, but not in a spell-slinging sort of way: it's Earth-shaking undertakings or minor enchantments forged in by master craftsmen, the grand working of a secretive cabal or a slight nudge to the course of a blow. I, the eternal optimist, have a full trilogy in mind. The first book is The Prince's Arquebusier, hence the cover and the title disagreeing! This is my shot at 2021's NaNoWriMo and RR Writathon! I've hitherto been terrible at writing long-form fiction, so this is an effort to break out of that by having some accountability in being supposed to post chapters regularly. Here's hoping it works! I have an outline, but not too much detail. I'll do my best to avoid continuity errors, doing anything glaringly stupid, or otherwise fluffing my lines, but I can't make any promises on that. Please do let me know any feedback! Always happy to improve. [participant in the Nov 2021 Royal Road Writathon challenge]
