《Grand Defender》Chapter 17

After what was basically a sleepless night, the previously hidden counter became permanently visible in a corner of our visions, and it marked just a few hours away.
Ena and I quickly ate and took out our weapons and got into position, the timer’s numerical value getting smaller and smaller.
Every second felt like an entire day, my feet were getting cold, my knees feeling the slightest bit disconnected from the rest of my body. My chest felt empty, yet my heart pounded with enough force to make its movement visible.
With only five minutes left now, my breathing became even more profound than what it was earlier, each breath making my diaphragm making the empty feeling in my chest spread to the rest of my body.
With only two minutes left now, even my mind felt empty. Even if I had the option to go back to where I was from, my body would just not be able to do it, everything felt empty.
With only thirty seconds left, my spine was no more. It didn’t matter if I tried to move, I just couldn't. Not that I wanted to move, either.
With only five seconds left, a screen appeared.
Five seconds remaining.
With the words from the System, the blue of the sky started receding. The atmosphere now naked, distant stars and galaxies were made easily visible. Although the sun was nowhere to be seen, everything was still bright, yet nothing had shadows.
With no time remaining, a screen appeared.
We are sorry for what you are about to experience.
With the words from the System, slightly noticeable silhouettes approached from what would be the sky, the ground gave way to barely describable hellspawn, even more coming from the horizon far away at sea.
Differently shaped beings, some humanoid and some beastly, with black needle-like hair covering them, became present in my immediate surroundings. The creatures had no eyes, yet their stare was inducing fear at incredible rates.

A horrendous figure leapt far above the wall that separated me from them, waking me up from my trance. The creature landed behind my initial position, revealing rows upon rows of rotten teeth, accompanied by the most foul smell a living creature was able to produce.
I grappled my [Quartzite Spear] and stabbed right through the monster’s maw, into its brain, making a vomit-like substance, instead of blood, spill everywhere. I slashed my spear horizontally, most of the liquid coming off, but it was still too much. Even just one drop is too much.
The spectating creatures screeched to high heavens, my eardrums nearly giving up upon hearing such noise. Each one of the horrid beings accelerated towards me, forming a line. With a whirring as loud as the creatures’, my [Stone Dice] rapidly obliterated each one of the things’ necks, covering the ground with the vomit-blood. Sadly, my [Stone Dice] was no longer in the picture, being obliterated itself during my attack. Was not going to touch that thing either way after this.
I spared a glance towards Ena’s position, tears were running down her face as she tried to shoot down the ever-growing horde that slowly gained ground on her. Even in this state, she had maintained the proper posture used by [Archers], and was even landing accurate shots on the monsters.
With just the little time I used to look at how Ena was doing, the creatures were now almost breathing down my neck. Holding my spear with just one hand now, I used the other to grab my knife, which I threw towards the entities. With the help of [Mineral Kineticism], the [Quartzite Knife] gracefully flew into monsters’ limbs, cutting them clean off, while I myself held the urge to vomit while I cut into several rotten heads and necks.

With how ‘well’ this was going, we were probably going to live to tell the tale.
