《The Software Detective》15. Old men are truly wise

On the other side was an older gentleman with a bat. "What are you doing in my shop, boy!"
Thank God, this was probably the owner of the shop. "Hey, I'm sorry I broke into your shop, but these men are after me, and I needed a place to hide to catch my breath," I said, lowering the rolling pin.
"Listen, kid, you can't just go breaking into people's shops now. I'll let you off this time. By the way, nice llama pj's. Plus, you scared away my little cat buddy Kevin!"
"They're alpacas, and thank you. But I should get going before they..." Gunshots poured in from the back door. "Get down!" I screamed, grabbing the old man and hiding behind the counter.
The gunshots stopped for a brief moment. "Hey kid, they got me." Looking down, I saw he there were three circles of blood growing from different locations on his torso.
"Oh no, sir, we need to get to you a hospital fast!" I said, looking around for something to stop the bleeding.
"Nonsense, kid, don't waste your time saving the dead. Here, take my keys. I just fulled the tank in the car so you can get pretty far with it." The baker coughed.
"Thank you so much sir, I never got your name."
"You can call me the Muffin Man."
"Oh wow, I guess I can finally say I know the Muffin Man."
"What are you talking about, kid? I just met you, and now I'm dying. Besides, you couldn't even tell what alpaca is if it was right in your face. Look at those long faces and banana-sized ears; those are definitely llamas." He said with a cough. Looking down analyzed the damage more closely. Damn, he was right. I should have double-checked before ordering these.

"Thank you, sir, again truly," I said, but there was no response. He was gone.
I could hear murmuring coming from the back door. The men were checking to see if they got me in their bullet storm. I crawled to the main entrance and left the bakery. Clicking the unlock button, the Muffin Man's car lights blinked. I got in, turned the key, and got the hell out of there.
Now I didn't have my cinnamon roll. I'm in danger of being killed by the Russian Mob, which inadvertently got the Muffin Man killed. Now I just found out that I bought the wrong pj's and I'm wearing llamas. Tonight could not get any worse.
