《Elian's Grimoire》Chapter I - Adventure Awaits (Part II)

El said as he turned the pages of the old book Kit gave him. He began reading the contents; the book contains journals of a man who in his writing is described as a close apprentice of Elian Gilsorths, the Great Mage. The journals also describe how the Great Mage made his Magnum Opus, his Grimoire. El's hands tremble out of excitement as he continues to turn the pages of the old book. "Uhmm El? You ok?" Kit expressed his concern. "This is AMAZING!!! Kit you really are my lucky charm! This is it! This is what I’m looking for!" El shouted out of his excitement. "Again Shhhh this is the library, one more noise and you both are out!" the librarian said as she moved towards their location. "Sorry again" both replied apologetically. "Anyway, Thanks, I am indeed lucky, by the way why are you looking for another spell book when you already have one?" Kit said as the librarian goes back to his office. "It's not just any spell book, Elian's Grimoire contains powerful spells that the Great Mage created himself, the legends say that its power is beyond 9th tier and can change the world itself." El explains. "Wow I don't understand what you just said" he said sarcastically. "Can you explain how magic works again?" Kit continued. "How many times do I have to explain it to you? Fine, El sighed. Magic is like air, it's naturally flowing and everywhere, it can be found in the sky, the oceans, even inside you but like air it is not visible to the naked eye however some people are talented enough to see and wield it. No one really knows where it came from, some say it from the other realm, some say its nature and religions say it is a gift from the Gods they worship." El continued. "How do you harness it then?" Kit asked clearly still confused. "Well that’s when it gets complicated, Wizards like me need to study and practice magic but only a few people can achieve it, you need a certain amount of knowledge and skills to harness raw magic like wizards, but there are some who are born with it, the Sorcerers who were born with the gift through lineage, one of his parents or sometimes both have the blood of a Dragon or a Celestial, that gives them the innate ability to wield magic, but there are also people who can bend the magic with the help of nature, those are the Druids, who assimilate themselves to nature in return the nature itself bend into their will, but if you’re looking for more similarities with Wizards, there are Bards who are also learned but to a different means, they study magic through music, they translate magic spells into songs or poems that are easier for them to understand, on the other hand, there are simpler way to use magic, you can be a Cleric who exchanges their devotion to a certain God for the usage of their divine magic that are more well-known for healing and banishing evil, however if you really want an effortless way, well you can be a warlock, all you need to do is trade your soul to a powerful entity. And that’s mostly it" El explained. "Oh your finished? I already stoped listening when you said study" Kit uttered. "Of course you did, shame a Half-Elf like you has a strong affinity for magic" El replied as if he knew already that Kit would not pay attention. "Anyway, now that you got what you came for, your gonna help me with my problem now right?" Kit said with a smile. "Of course! Lead the way, troublemaker" El answered.

Both El and Kit returned the several books and scrolls that El used and quietly continued to exit the library. As the two leave the premises off the tower, El turned around and looked back at his favorite place in the Republic. The alabastered color tower is shaded black by the approaching night creating a silhouette covering the bustling street of the higher district. The usual cold fog envelops the area making a somber yet elegant atmosphere; the magic generated street lamps begin the nightly gloss turning the dusky street lit for the people of the Republic.
"These walls never cease to amaze me" Kit uttered as he points in the direction of the gargantuan black walls surrounding the inner district which overshadows any building near it. "They say that it is made out of ores known for forging Dragon-forged Steel" El replied proudly. "Really? Wow that's means it can really pack a punch huh" Kit responded with amazement. "More than a punch, more like a fireball! A HUGE fireball!" El replied matching Kit’s amazement. "OK nerd, let's go before the Captain returns" Kit retorted. "Shut up! So where is this dagger exactly?" El countered. "In the bedroom of course" Kit answered arrogantly. "This is gonna be a difficult task indeed" El muttered. "Nothing is really difficult if we do it together!" Kit replied with enthusiasm as he extends his fist to El in which El responded with the same action. “That is something I would not disagree with"
As the two boys traverse the inner working of the inner district bustling with people covered with expensive coats, they finally they reached the street in which the Captain of the Guard house stood. The house resembles the other houses surrounding it. It is a sturdy two story building made out of high quality wood and stone without the least bit of imagination, the only difference is that is has two guards standing in front of its main door.
"So what's our plan?" Kit asked. "Well first we need a secure place where no or at least few people go" El replied. "There's an alley 20 feet away from here, we should go there" Kit answered pointing at the direction of the alley. The two immediately go towards the said location, Kit inspected the area from the largest opening to the tiniest crack, no stone unturned until he knows it is safe. "Ok so here is our plan, I will summon my familiar and use its senses to get the dagger while you guard my body" El explains. "Wait, wait, wait, I'm on guard duty? That’s boring" Kit declined. "Do you want me to help you or not?" El snapped. "Fine, but next time let's do it cooler" Kit agreed. "Nope there will be no next time, do you understand me Kit?" El refuted. "Fine, do what your gonna do, I'll guard your body" Kit uttered.

Kit sees El take out a charcoal from his satchel and begins to draw a magic circle in the ground, he then takes out a brass brazier and places it in the middle of the magic circle right after that. He then burns incense and some magical herbs inside the brazier in addition to chanting a spell. Out of the brazier a magical smoke was produced and on that smoke a barn owl appears and starts stretching its broad brown wings. "I thought you're familiar was a cat?" Kit said with a confuse face. "The familiar spell can change form, if you want it to change that is" El answered. "Can you make it like a tiger?" Kit asked with enthusiasm. "Unfortunately no, it's not a powerful spell, anyway could you do your job please" El replied with annoyed look. "I am doing my job, c'mon do your thing and get my dagger, second window at the second floor" Kit responded.
El decided to ignore Kit's jest and hold his now owl familiar, he then focuses and aligns his senses with his familiar. After a few seconds, El let's go of the owl and it begins to fly towards the window that Kit pointed out. El now can see through his familiar's eyes but the process renders his body blind and void of other senses.
The owl flies up and finally reaches the window and perches at the edge of it. El surveys across the room. The room is pretty normal for his expectation of the Captain of the Guards, it has a two-person bed, not too grand and not too shabby, a wooden closet which is currently closed and a table with a mirror attached to it on what looks like it’s for the wife only.
"Not even a bookshelf really?" El mutters, which startles Kit losing his focus on his task even dropping a dagger on the ground that he was currently playing with. "What? What bookshelf?" Kit replied. El did not hear Kit's question due to his link with his familiar and proceeded to command his familiar telepathically to go inside the room to cover more area for his search. After a few minutes of flying across the room searching for the dagger, he finally sees its location which is under the bed partially covered by a small pillow. As the owl grabs the dagger and tries to lift it to the air, El hears voices talking and is about to go to the second floor, it peaks El's curiosity, and he decides to eavesdrop.
"How today's duty love?" Said by a soothing female voice that is so calming it can disarm any angry man. "Only bad news, we discovered that the Triad is using orphans" Answered by an intimidating deep male voice worthy of a Captain's title. “Orphans? What for?" The woman asked. "It's not yet confirmed but we are checking on it, however, my guess is that they want to infiltrate the Inner Walls and use the orphans to deliver illegal drugs or worse kidnap children" the captain replied. "That's horrible! The Triad know no bounds!" the woman said. "By the way what did you do today?" the captain asked. With that sentence El suddenly remembered Kit's carnal deed with the Captain's wife and quickly commands his familiar to fly back to their location. The owl quickly flaps its wings and brings the dagger out of the house and flies across the night sky of the city towards the abandoned alley where his master waits his return.

Dungeon Crawler Katia
The aliens killed everyone on Earth...almost. Every structure, from the Taj Mahal to the lowliest lobster trap, vanished into the earth, killing everyone inside. The survivors were given a choice: Endure on the surface without food or shelter or tools, or descend into a world-spanning nightmare dungeon that is also a reality TV show. Katia, an art professor from Iceland who has given up her humanity to transform into a shapeshifting doppelganger, meets up with Carl and his cat, Donut. Together, the three fight to survive in a dungeon filled with Clarketech goblin murderdozers and pyramid-scheme fairy moonshine-makers. The above is, of course, describing Dungeon Crawler Carl. With DoctorHepa's (the author) permission I'm posting some fanfic to expand on Katia, one of the secondary characters who started off not getting as much exploration as I would have preferred. I started off writing chapters that matched up to canon except from her POV instead of Carl's; that lasted a couple of chapters before going off the rails and spinning off into a completely new story, which suggests I should really go back and renumber all the chapters as soon as I find some tuits.
