With the huge portal opening before them. It took a while before Collin managed to accept what just happened. He looked at Sophie and Ronald, who also were wondering or this is real. “Shall we take a closer look?” Collin asked. Ronald and Sophie simply nodded and followed closely after Collin. Collin put his hand against the steel frame and suddenly some kind of supernatural energy dragged the trio inside the portal. “Help!” They screamed Ronald managed to take hold of a metal bar and extended his hand for them to hold onto but ended up falling down and getting dragged in the portal with the others. After what felt like a long time. Collin finally managed to open his eyes and felt a sharp headache. Once he sit up and looked around him he noticed. That his in a small room without doors or windows and only one huge screen in front of him. The screen turned on and a ton of unknown characters appeared all over it. It slowly turned in something readable.

Collin couldn’t let out a word while he got transported. The next moment he arrived in a long corridor with bits of oil falling down. A zoom was heard and when he looked where it came from he noticed it came from his pocket. He carefully grabbed the item not knowing where he ended up. But it seemed to be smartphone-like device and when he turned it on a text was displayed. “Quest received from the host: Find your friends”. Collin scratches his head “A quest? What is this some kind of ARG?”. He was confused but put it away and walked out of the corridor. He went from corridor to corridor before finally arriving in another room. The moment he stepped in the room a clicking sound was heard before he managed to investigate the sound tHe being who made it already revealed itself. A big mechanic rat with screws all over his body jumped down onto Collin. Collin couldn’t defend himself and the rat landed on him and started biting. Because Collin doesn’t have a weapon he did what every smart person does and pushed the rat off him and ran away to the next corridor. The rat however didn’t want his meal to leave and followed Collin through the corridors where Collin blindly ran through not knowing where he went to. When he arrived in another room but this room was a dead end. The rat cornered Collin when a metal rod hit the rat. “Bing!” The mobile-device made and the text showed objective 1 of 2 completed. Collin looked up and saw Ronald repeatedly hitting the poor rat who keeps on making a squeak noise and helped collin up leaving the lifeless rat behind. “Well that was close.” Ronald sighed and looked around “Do you have any clue where we are?” Ronald asked Collin curiously where Collin shook his head in response. “I have no clue, I just woke up in a room after that screen said it was scanning my identity.” Ronald scratches his head. “So the exact same thing happened at your side. Do you also have this quest that we have to find each other?” Collin nodded. “I thought so that only leaves Sop-“

“STAY AWAY IF YOU DON’T WANT A KNIFE IN YOUR GEARS!” a yell was heard which was obviously Sophie’s. “Well eh the game simulation doesn’t make the quest hard at least” Ronald replied with a small laughter getting his rod ready. “You don’t seem to have a weapon so you can stay behind, don’t worry those are likes slimes in those games.” That only made Collin feel even more ashamed but he followed Ronald anyway. After noticing the wound that the rat’s bit mark left behind. He was sure that those robots are in a state to kill a lone human. If one would wander in those portals without a clue. After walking around the maze of corridors for a while trying to follow the occasional yells from Sophie. They finally managed to find her squaring off against two rats with one body already laying on the ground. Ronald jumped in and they quickly finished those rats off. Afterwards they went in for a group hug when all three devices went off.
“Congratulations for being the first team in the world to finish “Tutorial” on “Very Very Easy difficulty”. “T that was the lowest difficulty?” Collin said not believing his words. When the device once again went off. “Teleporting everyone to a bonus-quest as a reward, in process…”

Divine Progress
Progress is a dubious god. After failing him, three people are banished from modern times and sent to another world. Seemingly out of place, Christoph is snatched from his own time and plunged into a world of violence and magic with no deity to lend him support. Instead, Progress has seen fit to curse him with an eternal hunger for magical energy. Branded as a demon, he must fight for survival while battling the servants of the god who sent him there, struggling against the 'gift' that Progress bestowed upon him and the past he sought to abandon. Can he make his way across the lands and gather enough strength to survive without the blessings of the Divine? Or will the gods bend him to their will, breaking him if he seeks to resist? This is not a short story, and the plot will take many twists and turns before Christoph's journey comes to a close. After all, it is not the destination, but the Progress that matters in the end. Like many other stories on RoyalRoad, this is my first piece. Feedback is more than welcome, so please leave a reply if you have a comment or question.
