《SkillGap》Chapter 6: Maligan Mountain

It's morning now. Rinka, Minaro and Maya are still sleeping.
Extremely intense knocking can be heard. It wakes Rinka up, he rubs his eyes, gets out of bed and walks to the front door.
Rinka opens it, Doa and Sumairu are standing outside.
Doa has her dusk blue sweater and grey pants on, Sumairu's smiling.
Sumairu: My hands hurt from knocking, next time please wake up earlier.
Rinka: You didn't give us a time to wake up at.
Sumairu: Oh, then I'll give it to you now. 8:30 AM sharp.
Sumairu walks past Rinka and into the living room.
Sumairu: So you're awake, is Minaro awake?
Rinka: I'll go wake him up.
…
Rinka, Minaro, Doa and Sumairu walk down a hallway. Rinka and Minaro walk beside each other.
Rinka looks at Minaro.
Rinka: Do you think we're taking this too lightly?
Minaro: Taking what too lightly?
Rinka: Everything. Sumairu said people are going to be after our black blood, if those red haired people at the lake basically killed us and Sumairu wants us to get stronger doesn't mean there are stronger threats out there?
Minaro: Yeah, but I'm not worried, I'm ready to get stronger and kill anyone in my way.
Rinka: I'm also ready to get stronger, but killing, I don't know.
Minaro: More enemies are going to keep coming according to Sumairu so you're going to have to kill at some point.
Rinka: But I can't get over it, I'm terrified to kill anyone, it just reminds me so much of what happened back then.
Rinka gets a flashback.
He stabs someone with a small kitchen knife and smiles sinisterly.
Rinka looks at the floor.
Doa and Sumairu are walking beside each other a few feet in front of Rinka and Minaro.
Doa turns around and looks at Rinka and Minaro.
Doa: Hey, do you guys have phones?

Rinka looks at doa.
Rinka: No, we left them in our tent.
Doa doesn't say anything in response and turns back around.
…
Rinka, Minaro, Doa and Sumairu stand outside of a gate. An enormous mountain within a forest was in front of them.
Sumairu: This is Maligan Mountain, we're gonna train here.
Sumairu opens the gate.
Everyone walks past the gate and into the forest.
Sumairu: Rinka and I will train together. Minaro, Doa will train you.
Sumairu and Rinka walk to the right side of the forest, Doa and Minaro go to the left side.
…
Rinka and Sumairu are in an empty part of the forest.
Sumairu looks around.
Sumairu: Alright! This seems like a great place to train!
Rinka looks at Sumairu.
Rinka: So what are we doing first?
Sumairu: Well, of course I think the first thing we should do is help you bring out that Void skill.
Rinka: Okay. What do I do?
Sumairu: Let's see… maybe you can try yelling the name of the skill and it'll come out.
Rinka: I don't think that'll work.
Sumairu: Skills are mostly used when you think about them. So there is no need to yell them but it's worth a shot, right?
Rinka: I guess?
Sumairu: Plus, anime characters do it all the time, so just go ahead and try it.
Rinka looks at his sword.
Rinka: The void!
Sumairu: Louder.
Rinka: THE VOID!
Sumairu: Louder!
Rinka looks at Sumairu.
Rinka: Louder?
Sumairu: Yeah, scream like you just slammed your toe into a wall.
Rinka: THE VOID!!!!!!
Rinka and Sumairu hear the sound of someone falling and hitting the floor.
"SHUT THE FUCK UP!" Someone yells
Rinka and Sumairu look at where the voice came from.
A guy with white hair outlined by the color cyan appears from behind a tree. He has cyan and teal pajamas on. Cyan as his entire eye and some black at the bottom of it.

Sumairu: Ah! The homeless guy! I didn't expect you to be here.
Rinka looks at Sumairu, confused.
Rinka: Homeless guy?
"HOMELESS GUY?" Yells the guy.
Sumairu looks at Rinka.
Sumairu: This is the random homeless guy I always find in this forest.
Sumairu looks back at the homeless guy.
"Dude, I'm not homeless." says guy.
The guy points to a tree.
"I live up there."
Sumairu: Yeah, that's not a house, you're basically homeless.
"Ok whatever, why are guys yelling? I'm trying to sleep."
Sumairu puts his hand on Rinka's shoulder.
Sumairu: We're training, this guy's gotta get stronger.
"What type of training requires yelling?"
Sumairu: Don't ask.
The guy walks towards a tree and starts to climb it. Sumairu notices a sword tied to the guy's back.
Sumairu: Hey! Wait! Homeless guy, you have a sword?
The homeless guy glances at Sumairu.
"Yeah, I like using swords."
Sumairu: Good! Can I ask you for a favor then?
The homeless guy is confused.
Sumairu: Help me train this guy, he's got a sword too!
"Uh, no. I'm going back to sleep."
Sumairu: Wait! I've got a deal for you… If you help me train this guy I'll give you a room to stay in, I own the skill center. It'll be much more comfy than sleeping in a tree.
The guy lets go of the tree and walks towards Sumairu.
"Do I also get free food?"
Sumairu: Sure.
"Alright you lazy son of a bitch, I accept your deal."
The guy looks at Rinka. He extends his hand towards Rinka for a handshake.
Rinka shakes his hand.
"My name is Imma-ite and I'm gonna kick your ass."
Rinka: Uh...Okay?
Imma-ite: Yeah...So what am I supposed to help you with?
Rinka: I've got a skill I wanna use but I can't bring it out.
Imma-ite: Ok, well. How about you and me fight? We have a raw battle. Maybe me beating you will force your skill to come out, I don't know?
Rinka: Ok then, sounds good. Let's fight.
...
For about 20 minutes, Rinka and Imma-ite swung their weapons at each other while Sumairu was sitting down watching them.
Rinka and Imma-ite lay on the floor, both of them exhausted.
Rinka: That fight was pointless, my skill didn't come out once.
Imma-ite: That sucks.
Imma-ite slowly stands up. He looks at Sumairu.
Imma-ite: I'm done for today, I'm going back to sleep.
Sumairu stands up.
Sumairu: He didn't even bring his skill out, there's no way the training is done yet!
Imma-ite: You train him now, you haven't done a single thing to help, I have scoliosis now because of that battle.
Sumairu stares at Rinka. Then at Imma-ite.
Imma-ite: I'll go to the skill center later, I'm gonna go take a nap now.
Imma-ite walks deeper into the forest.
A few minutes go by. Rinka is finally able to stand up.
Sumairu: Well, I'm gonna train you now!
Rinka: Ok, what are we doing first.
Sumairu: So first let's-
Sumairu is interrupted by an ear piercing scream. It startles Rinka and Sumairu.
Sumairu: What?
Rinka: A scream?
...
Doa and Minaro have finally found an empty spot to train in.
Doa looks at Minaro.
Doa: I've never trained anyone before, so my methods might be a little odd… but I think we should fight each other.
Minaro: Well, if that's what you say we should do then...
Doa: Alright then get ready, because I won't hold back.
Minaro stares as Doa pulls her pistol out.

Glitch — Alpha [Swedish] [Svenska]
********* For English readers: (Might as well add this information in English to save the lovely souls looking through our works some time) I probably won't translate this work, but I'm working on another translation within YA, if that's something you'd be interested in. This one's horror/thriller, so.. yeah. Maybe sometime in the future. Otilia works at a daycare when a child disappears. Seconds later, the child reappears, like nothing had happened. She thinks she's worked too much, but when disappearences start to happen all around the globe, she and her boyfriend realize that something has gone really, really wrong. When they get an idea about what could be the cause, no matter how unbelievable, they will do everything in their power to get the information to the right people. This was my first-ever-novel and my first gamelit story (though I had no idea that was a thing/genre at the time). This novel contains a lot of violence and blood and can be uncomfortable to read for some people. There is also some violence from, and off-screen violence to, children.
