《Enigma (Rogue #2)》Chapter 31

Eniola couldn't move.

Her breath hitched when she realized she was right in front of the Sydney SCOPE arena. Eniola tried to run, but her feet couldn't move.

"Help me!" Eniola screamed, but no one listened to her. In the distance, faint blasts shook the air as they moved in closer and closer with every second. But no matter where she looked, she could never tell where she was going.

Eniola finally turned away, but then she stopped during it. Kain faced her now, a smirk curled onto his face.

He moved closer to her, under he stood over her before he leaned down. "How does it feel to be one of us?"

"I am not one of you," Eniola spat. "How could you do this? How could you betray us like his?"

"No one betrayed you," Kain said again. "You knew who we were, and you still came begging for our help. It's because we drew you to us. You know us."

"No, I don't," Eniola said.

"Yes. You. Do," Kain said again before he stepped back again. But this time, he morphed into Hyejin. Eniola screamed again. Hyejin.

Hyejin exploded into a hazy purple fire. A line lit around the explosion in a huge supernova. Eniola immediately ran away. But with every run, the landscape stretched with every moment as it distorted the landscape. Eniola screamed as she stayed frozen in her spot.

Then her eyes snapped open and the distorted landscape become a dark silhouette of the bunk bed above her. Eniola hyperventilated as her chest rose and fell again. Sweat drenched her forehead and all the crevices of her body.

It wasn't the first nightmare of the night. They'd plagued Eniola over the night and refused to stop playing in their continuous loop. Hyejin was in most of them. The young girl that had been killed because of her. Hyejin was just 14. She was a child. Her skin felt all prickly all over. She had blood on her hands. That was unforgivable.

Eniola sucked in another deep breath before she set her eyes on the top bunk where Iris was. Eniola sighed.

It's okay, Eniola willed inside of her mind over and over. I'm okay.

Eniola slipped out of the bottom of her creaky bunk bed and stepped onto an even creakier floor. The cool air chilled against her bare skin and bones under the massive hoodie Jay had given her. It was horrendously big and went down to her thighs, which covered the massive weight Eniola had lost. Eniola wasn't a big person pre-fugitive, but with a lack of sleep, the constant training the PSEUDO gave them, and a diet of quick food, she had thinned and her bones jutted out oddly.

Eniola slowly tip-toed just in case someone wanted to wake up randomly before she stopped in front of one of the 4 bunks. Eniola bent down and slipped into the other bed.

Almost immediately, Jay wrapped his arms around her and Eniola eased into the warmth of his exposed chest. Eniola sighed.

"What's wrong?" Jay whispered down to her. Eniola pulled tighter into him. For a moment, she didn't speak, and she held onto Jay like he could've gotten up and taken a run for it. Jay pulled her in closer, and Eniola ran her hand over his tattooed arm and felt the ink. It comforted her.

Eniola paused before she sighed. "I've been having nightmares."

"About what?" he asked before he massaged circles into her back. A blissful moan escaped her. Eniola pursed her lips and Jay giggled a little.

"About the explosion," Eniola said. "But I've also been thinking about what you told me. Before you went to take care of the bomb."

Jay stayed silent, but it was loud.

"Did you mean it?" she whispered. "Or did you think you were going to die?"

"It's because I love you," he confessed suddenly. Eniola jumped. Jay had said the words. "Doesn't matter if I'm going to die or going to live. I love you and I have for a long time."

Eniola felt a smile creep onto her face. "Since when?"

"Since the moment we started dating," Jay confessed, and Eniola's eyes widened. "I always knew that I felt more special about you than I did with anyone. I just didn't say it because I knew you might've not felt that way yet."

Eniola's thoughts ran through her head in a frenzied circle. Jay loved her. He'd finally said the words. She didn't just have to assume. And he knew all of this time?

"And you're the first person I've ever told that to," he revealed, adding more to Eniola's heartbeat.

"You've never said that to any of the girls you've been with?"

"No."

Eniola wanted to get it out. Laugh even. Jay Yoon loved her. He did. On a regular day, it would've freaked her out, but after all of this may be, maybe, she could bridge the gap between intensely liking him and loving him.

"I love you, Eniola," he whispered in her ear.

She allowed the words to stay a feverish whisper in her ear as her heart erupted into cheers. She replied, "I love you too, Jay."

He tilted her chin to him before pressing a lingering kiss onto her lips. She melted into it easily, like she always had. Eniola would never tire of kissing him and feeling his lips on hers and his hands delicately on her. She would never tire of her heart beating ten times as fast when he was around. She'd never tire of the way he made her laugh.

A shallow breath suddenly escaped her lips and Jay moved his hands down and gripped the back of her thigh and brought it to his hips. For a moment, their lips disconnected as he rolled to hover over her. Eniola sucked in a breath.

But then his head bumped on the top bunk and Eniola couldn't help herself erupt into giggles, before covering her hand with her mouth. It wasn't long before Jay giggled with her, and collapsed into her with laughter that they had both tried to keep quiet.

"I love this," he whispered through quiet laughter.

"Me too," Eniola agreed before she stared at what she could make out of Jay's eyes in the dark. They were darker, but even when she couldn't see them, she could feel them stare against her. Then something occurred to Eniola.

They had never been this close before. At least not this type of close. The type of close Olu had teased her about, and she'd flush with heat about. The type of close she'd always wondered what it would feel like with someone she'd loved.

Someone like Jay.

"Jay," Eniola mumbled.

"Yeah?"

"Kiss me."

Eniola didn't have to tell him twice. Jay leaned down and crashed his lips against hers, before moving his other hand to grip her hip. Her heart was erratic now, as she moved his hand to her other thigh and gripped onto both of them. Someone moaned, but she couldn't tell who. Eniola was pretty sure it was her, though.

Jay pulled away slightly before Eniola grabbed his jaw again and pulled him in passionately again. In between breaths, he mumbled the words. "I love you."

Eniola groaned, "I love you," she repeated hastily in the split second they weren't kissing. He wrapped her in a more passionate kiss, but then he stopped. Eniola lay there with her chest raised. Jay moved lower and his lips connected with her jaw, leaving a trail of butterfly kisses against her neck. She tilted her head back to let his lips encase her neck before she arched into him in the heat of the moment. He let out a sigh of pleasure as his fingers pulled back the collar from her hoodie and exposed her skin from her collarbone and to her chest. He connected his lips to her collarbone before lowering down to the crevices of her neck and shoulder and then to the top of her chest. Eniola only curved further.

The hoodie clung to her arm as Jay pulled away again, his breath heavy against her skin. His head stayed buried in the crook of her neck while her body lay exposed. She could get high on the sensation.

"Eniola," he breathed against her skin before he moved to face her. "Tell me what you want."

Eniola swallowed back a gulp. "I want you. I-I want you to make me feel good."

"Yeah?"

"Yeah."

Jay rose above her, taking the warmness of himself away for a moment. All she could do was breathe before he cupped his hands against her inner thighs. She sighed in response, as he began moving in higher and higher until it was inside the hoodie. He slowly rubbed against where she wanted him to and her eyes rolled to the back of her head in bliss. It took Eniola everything to stifle the whimper coming through her throat.

He leaned down to kiss her again and Eniola arched into him further.

"Shh.." he whispered. She slightly nodded.

Eniola felt hot like a fire. She was electrified. Every touch. Every kiss. Every sensation. He made her feel like a cannibal. It was almost enough to make her forget about Enigma.

Enigma. Reality dawned on her. She was in a bunk bed in a safe house in Australia because she was a falsely convicted criminal who needed to save the world from a deadly supercomputer.

It was like Eniola had shrivelled. The fire had gone out. The electricity had gone static. She swallowed back a nervous gulp.

They couldn't do this. Not here. Not now.

"Jay," Eniola murmured.

"Yeah?" he replied and paused, breaths still coming out heavy.

"I want to stop," she admitted, and immediately his hand slid up before he shifted next to her again, still heavily breathing. Eniola could feel the ghost of his touch against her body. She could still feel tingles where he touched and maybe where he could've touched.

Jay turned over to her and caressed a hand over her cheek. "What's wrong? Are you okay?"

"I'm fine," Eniola admitted, while still trying to calm her senses. "It's just... I want this to happen, I do. But it's not the right place or even the right time. I don't want this to be in a dingy bunk bed and while we're in the middle of being fugitives, I want it to just be us when all of this is over. I want you to be the only thing I think about."

His knuckles ran down further on her cheek. Eniola sighed in relief. At least it was off her chest. Eniola wanted him. She wanted him badly, and she didn't realize it until now. But certain things had to wait.

Jay paused above her for a moment. "Then we don't have to do this anymore if you don't want to. You know I'll always wait for you, right?"

Eniola only nodded.

"Theo's above me and he's a light sleeper, anyway," Jay said. Eniola laughed into the thick-heavy tension. She didn't realize that there were still 3 other people in this room. Heat seeped into her cheeks.

"Ok," she sighed before he wrapped her into a thick embrace. They said nothing for the rest of it, and they didn't need to. And that was okay.

"I love you, Eniola," Jay whispered to her.

"And I love you too, Jay," she replied before she eventually fell asleep against him.
