《The Transcenders》Chapter 18 - Flee To Hellish City

“How long until backup?” Kevin Bell tried to stay as calm as he could. Droplets of sweat poured down his face.
A young man looked at his tablet and responded, “Our army won’t be there soon enough! Our first battalion will arrive in 15 minutes!”
The prime minister observed the crowd of older deputies. They were all panicking and debating on what to do.
He clapped his hands. The sound echoed throughout the room, ultimately silencing them. “Dammit! We prepared for this! We need to protect the city at all costs! We can’t let them destroy our morale!”
…
Isaac was in the bathroom at his home. As he looked in the mirror, he could see his eyes glowing red again.
‘This is… I can still see. I should tell someone about it, but….’
He closed his eyes, trying to calm down. ‘This has been happening to me more and more often. At first, it was only once a week for a short period, but now it's happening every day!’
Isaac looked back in time. There was only one possible cause. “Was it because of THAT? The weird red substance a few months ago, I thought it was only my imagination at first, but did it really happen? Could it have altered with my magic and emotions?”
He reflected on what happened to him on his first mission in the Underground City.
“Hey, Isaac! Come here!” Henri called him from the living room.
Isaac put on coloured contacts. His eyes instantly went back to their original colour.
Isaac arrived in the living room. Henri, Aaron and Alex were looking at him strangely. “What?”
“The guild is under attack.” His father looked him straight in the eyes.
Confused, Isaac made a few steps to the side while looking at the floor and thinking deeply.

He turned his head to look at his father. “So? Can’t we beat them? The other guilds won’t let us get attacked!”
Alex clenched his fists. “Isaac, the Topaz Guild has the Obscure Guild’s support. The Democratic Alliance won’t dare make any direct moves. That could start a new world war.”
Aaron spoke for Isaac. “We can still defend ourselves! Our territory is immense, and the Wandering Lands can attack them from the back!”
The Wandering Lands were smaller-sized guilds set in the center of the West Continent. Together, their territory was almost as big as the Western D.A. and half as big as the Topaz Guild.
Alex had predicted that larger guilds, like the Western D.A. which is directly administered by the Democratic Alliance, would remain neutral.
However, if the Wandering Lands saw their territories threatened by other guilds, they wouldn’t think twice about picking sides.
Henri responded. “The Wandering Lands aren’t organized. It’s just a collection of smaller guilds. They don’t want to partake in this war at the moment. They want to stay safe. Also, our enemy is now attacking us from the north as well. It aims to sandwich us. It’s no longer a fight just between our borders.
“This is why you’ll flee to these lands. Go to the Hellish City. I have an acquaintance there, Ejiro Sani.”
Aaron and Isaac were shocked. ‘Flee? Why would we run away?!’
Henri read their thoughts. “I know you want to fight, but you two and Alex are too young for this war. I don’t want you to die.”
“Now go! Find Ejiro!”
…
“Please! Don’t do this!” An old man sat on his knees on the rooftop of a fifteen-storey building.
Rico Amon looked at him emotionlessly.
Explo and Crow, who stood behind him, were getting scared of him. But more than that, they were annoyed. Instead of killing a few unfortunate citizens, they would have rathered participating in the actual battle in the streets.
“Die freak!” Rico kicked the man off the edge of the building, or so he tried.
“What the fuck?!” A green shield had appeared under his foot. It intercepted his strike.
*Voosh* An S-Craft landed behind them. Out of it came Christiana de Champlain and Johnathan Dubois.

To Become a Troll: A Monster Evolution Story
Thrust into the supernatural world of the deep forest, Paul finds himself in a situation where he could find himself prey to pretty much every other creature and animal around. If he's to survive, he must shed his weak form to grow stronger and survive. But the forest is full of creatures beyond human understanding, that act without the need for food or shelter and that seem to exist for the sole purpose of dragging humans to the bottom of a murky river. Is it really possible to kill such creatures when your only strength is physical prowess? --- A monster evolution story based on Swedish creature mythology. The focus will overwhelmingly be on the progression of the main character and his slow increase in strength. Although many of the creatures are based on Swedish creature mythology, I have taken creative liberties in order to ensure that evolution lines and the such are in line with the usual. The main thought I had when going into this is that I want to delay the "meeting a human" section as much as possible. My plan is to get him to endgame levels of strength before even sniffing the possibility of seeing a human. Whether I'm actually able to do this remains to be seen, but I'm holding my thumbs! Also, I'm aware that there are other troll evolution stories, but this is unrelated to them. They can do their stuff and I'll do mine, but this is in no way related to any of them. That said, hope you enjoy it!

Isoptera
Reincarnated, Crete finds himself not in some overpowered human body with the basic kill the demon lord cliche. No, he is reincarnated as a weak, powerless, and quite frankly worthless existence. Maybe his was a mistake, as he wasn't even reincarnated as a human but instead a humble and meek existence, A termite. Follow Crete as he adventures, without the memories of his previous life intact, in this New World, Honera. He trudges on endlessly with his indomitable willpower and journeys as a meek termite who is fraught with trials and tribulations; as he seeks for the power to just live in peace and without the prejudice everyone seems to have against his kind. Upload Schedule: M-W-F Hey guys this is my first attempt at a novel, based on the type of fiction I enjoy, it'll be mostly slow-paced at the start as I try to work out the kinks and learn more about "Isopterans". However, if y'all enjoy it leave a few nice reviews, or if you don't, leave some constructive criticism. Both would be appreciated. I also would be setting up a Patreon if any are interested in donating to help fund the story or you can send a donation through PayPal directly. I want to create something that we as RRoaders can enjoy together. You can also access the Discord here [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge]

Hinterland
Simon sincerely believed he was saving Morgan's life when he pushed her off the second-story roof of her family farmhouse. To be fair, his mother was burning it to the ground at the time. But Morgan Mumford, a lonely outcast with a chip on her shoulder and a full skeleton of remarkably unbroken bones, is not particularly convinced of his good intentions. Because the instant he pushed her over Simon also whisked Morgan into the realm of Hinterland: a shadowy world that is a perfect replica of their home town of Coching. But Hinterland is a hungry and dangerous place, where ordinary objects have taken on a life of their own. In Hinterland you might be ambushed by a gang of motorcycles or eaten alive by a duplex. And by god, you run from scissors. Morgan is now trapped in this hostile realm, unable to find a way home. Hunted relentlessly by Aqualung, an evil-minded Buick Skylark with a love for Jethro Tull and hatred for all things on two legs, she is forced to join a ragtag band of fellow castaways to ensure her survival. But the embittered leader of these children has plans of his own, and before long Morgan finds herself swept into his vendetta against Hinterland's imperious ruler: Simon's mother, who commands the living, breathing town to do her bidding and schemes to transform it into something worse than it is now. Something ravenous. It's time for Morgan to decide whether to ditch her new allies and find her own way out of the belly of the beast, or stay and help her fellow outcasts weather the violent feud that brews on the horizon.
