《The Transcenders》Chapter 1 - The Incident

'Twas the year 2220. A long time ago. The Amon guild had been flourishing ever since its birth. 20 years had flown by in an instant. The Amon guild's headquarters was a tall skyscraper located in Blue City, the core of the guild. Many people, such as the Amon family, lived there.

January 20th, 2220 was Rico Amon's birthday. He was now 11 years old. Just like his mother, he had pink skin and even pinkier eyes. His head was as round as it could get, and his neck was barely noticeable. Rico and his parents were patiently awaiting breakfast.

"Rico, please stop playing with your utensils!" implored the mother, Elis Leon.

"Leave him be honey. Today's his day," reminded Daniel Amon, the father.

While Rico was unquestionably his son, they looked very different. This was seen because of Daniel's triangle-shaped ears and bushy eyebrows. Rico and Elis did not even have eyebrows.

Of course, the difference could also be seen in their skin tone, the father's skin being the pale ivory type. Moreover, their body type was also different. Rico was much more chubby than Daniel.

As planned, the first meal of the day was a giant omelet.

"Thank you!", praised the family all at once as the old maiden arrived with the food, serving them.

This one's name was Rosette. She had been their maiden since before Rico was even born.

Daniel was the first to take a bite out of the omelet. He laughed. "It sure is great to be able to eat like this every day!"

Elis took a sip of her morning coffee. "Yes, 20 years ago, I could never have imagined any of this!"

"Yeah, being the Guild Leaders of this giant territory sure is…" Daniel couldn't finish his sentence. He felt like something was stuck in his throat.

‘I can't breathe!’ he thought. The feeling didn't end at his throat. It soon overcame his entire body.

It was as if every vein in his body were about to explode from the inside.

Elis Leon couldn't help him at all. She too felt overwhelmed by this strange feeling. But, it didn't end as just a feeling.

When it seemed like Rico was about to take a bite out of the omelet, he heard a slight cry for help.

He looked up at his parents.

"Huh? what- MOTHER! FATHER!" Rico screeched as he stood up from his seat.

The Guild Leaders were covered in blood. It was endlessly pouring out of their blackened veins. In fact, their entire bodies had darkened.

"ROSETTE! HELP!" cried Rico.

The maiden came shortly after upon hearing her name.

While his family was eating breakfast, Rico's older brother, Aaron Amon, was attending school. More precisely, the prestigious "Amon Combat School.”

Rico may have mostly inherited his appearance from their mother, but Aaron didn't. He did not have the same eyes nor the same hair colour as Daniel's, but he still resembled his father a lot more than Rico did.

His nose, his eyebrows, the shape of his face, his skin tone, and his ears were similar to those of his dad when he was younger. The only apparent trait Aaron had taken from his mother was his big body type. He had a perfect body for building hefty muscles.

In a small classroom, Aaron Amon examined the digital clock's numbers out of boredom. The teacher had started doing a recap of what they had learned the last semester since winter break had just ended.

"There are two different categories of magic. Elemental magic and dark magic. Everyone has and is restricted to one single type of magic. They only need to learn how to use it like you are doing at this school.

"The most common magic types found in our West Continent are the fire and wind types, which belong to the Elemental magic category.

"Dark magic types vary a lot, but the most commonly found are transformation and telekinesis.

"Although remember this, magic is a very mysterious power that, even in our day and age, we know next to nothing about."

Of course, the students knew all of this information already. ‘We aren't nobodies, you don't need to remind us about something so simple,’ one thought.

‘We are prodigies that will become the best magicians of our generation,’ thought another.

Everyone was eager for the class to finish since they would get the chance to duel each other the next period.

"What?! Aaron, look! Quick!" muttered Aaron's best friend.

"Stop playing video games in class, Ricky. You're 14 already. You should focus on getting stronger instead."

"This ain't a game! These are news! Important news!" he said.

Seeing his facial expression, Aaron could tell something was wrong.

He slowly looked down at the screen integrated into Ricky's side of their desk. There, he saw two black, bloody feet sticking out of blue cloth wrapping someone's body.

Then, Aaron read the title.

"DEATH OF AMON GUILD MASTERS."

His head quickly bolted up to look at Ricky, but his eyes focused on something else entirely.

A box was attached to the window from outside and the red spot of light that emitted from it was blinking rapidly. It was a bomb!

"Oh, they must have come for me."

*BADABOOM!*

The bomb exploded. Smoke and broken glass were all over the classroom. "Shit!" Aaron quickly slid underneath his desk and pressed a red button. The 4 sides of the desk closed themselves rapidly. Gunshots and screams could be heard outside of Aaron's small shelter.

Aaron was scared, but also very angry. "They are here to kill me, aren't they? These murderers assassinate my parents and then come to kill me too? If I survive this, I swear that I will have my vengeance."

All of Aaron's classmates had been killed, including Aaron's best friend, Ricky. His head had been sliced apart from his body by a clean sword cut.

There were three adult murderers in the classroom.

One was dressed in a black suit, with a black cape, and a black crow mask. His nickname was Crow. He was about to sheathe his blade when one of his comrades spoke.

"We killed everyone here, but where is the youngling?" asked a woman completely covered in pink armour.

Her face was hiding inside a helmet, and her strong arms were carrying three big bazooka-looking weapons with sharp edges on one end and a big barrel on the other. They could be used as both melee and short to mid-range weapons.

After kneeling on the floor and taking a look below the desks, the third one spoke.

"Oh! Don't worry, Explo. I believe I've found his hiding spot."

Pointing, he followed, "He must be inside of this desk."

"Good job, Zomb, let me blow it up," said the woman after dropping two of her weapons on the floor. She kept the other one on her shoulder and held a button.

*Bvvvvvvv* A red chunk of magic was gradually growing inside of the barrel.

Out of their peripheral vision, the classroom door had silently been opened. Ronald Amon emerged from the hallway. He was the director of the school, Aaron's uncle.

With a single thought, a spear made from his mana appeared in his right hand. "Summoning: Spear," said a robotic voice inside of Ronald's head.

A green glowing spear was suddenly conjured into Ronald's right hand. The device that allowed him to do that was a magic all-purpose watch.

It was a fairly popular device among the Western continent's magicians. Magic science was what brought about its creation.

Explo’s weapon had finished charging. "It's ready."

"Then kill him," ordered Zomb impatiently.

‘I have to act now!’

Ronald suddenly dashed towards the armoured woman and knocked her back with his spear.

Zomb tried to stop him but only ended up injuring his hand and getting knocked onto the shattered window.

Two other people came into the room. One threw metallic spikes out of a device, and the other charged them with electricity magic to make them even more dangerous.

To evade this, Crow had to reveal his dark magic ability. He turned his limbs into air currents and flew towards the window.

Losing the fight, the three murderers had to retreat. They jumped out of the window. Ronald headed to the window and looked around. He was shocked. "They disappeared."

A few seconds later, Aaron came out from beneath the desk. "Uncle Ron…"

Ronald took his hand and pulled him up. "You and Rico will both be staying at my house for now because-"

Aaron looked down and spoke, "I know. My parents were killed over at the HQ. I saw the news."

Ronald put his hand on his shoulder. "Don't worry, the guards and I will keep you safe."

"You should have also kept my teacher and classmates safe."

"I'm sorry, Aaron," the uncle sighed.
