《Heroes of The Collective Volume Three : Repercussions》16. Justicia #5 : On And On And On

“Are you ready?”
“Yes.”
“Ok. Good. Do you have any questions? And please don’t just say ‘no’ because it’s easier.”
Ariadna looked at her partner blankly. “So… do you want me to pretend I do have questions?”
“No… no. That would be silly. I just want to make sure we’re all good,” Ferris explained. “This is our first official call out.”
“I know. You've said five times now. The President is at a rally in Georgia ahead of elections next year for his second term and people aren’t happy about his proposals on the Federal Liveable Wage and half way through one man named as Kyle McCann who has recently lost his job was thrown out from the rally by Secret Service agents but returned a few minutes later with a small army of Kyle McCann clones and that’s why we’ve been called and I have no questions I don't know why you keep asking me.”
Ferris looked at her in awe. “You didn’t even take a breath.”
“I told you. I’m ready. Do you have any questions that aren’t to do with my readiness?” she asked.
Ferris flicked a few switches on the jet’s dashboard and slid down his goggles from the top of his head. “No,” he answered simply.
“Good. That’s what I like to hear.” She adjusted her gold visor down over her eyes, the band sitting in place round above her ears. She put her ear pieces in and flicked out her black wavy hair. Ariadna went on to check her purple jumpsuit was zipped all the way up and nodded at Ferris.
“Let’s do this then.” He shifted the thrusters and the jet swooped down to land just outside of the rally’s perimeter fence where it was being held at the golf club in Augusta.
A Secret Service Agent ran up to Two Tone and Justicia as they disembarked their jet.
“Thank God you’re here, there’s so many of them!”
“Any demands or attempts made to do anything?” Two Tone asked.
“Not really. They just all over ran us at the check point and demanded that the President takes notice,” the Agent explained.
“And it’s got to do with what? The Liveable Wage?”
“I told you that a few minutes ago, don’t you remember?” chided Justicia.
The Agent looked at her warily, but didn’t engage her in conversation. “Yeah, he came in earlier to protest so my guys took him out. Now he's back with many hims and and he’s just been yelling his story at the President.”

“Is there an exit strategy for POTUS? When we go in, it might get messy.”
“You say the word and my agents will take the President out... Is it really just you two going in? You sure you’re ready for what’s in there? We estimate there’s two hundred of him plus the crowd who couldn’t escape in time.”
Justicia tutted and walked off towards the gate.
“She’s very ready,” Two Tone said to the Agent. “It’s her first time.” He left him to follow after Justicia.
They were led to the staging area where the President was, and Two Tone was to give the signal by emitting a bright enough light to stun everyone.
“Three… Two… One!” he shouted as he and Justicia charged onto the stage. The Secret Service Agents were close behind to grab POTUS and the two heroes leapt off into the crowd of clones, Two Tone illuminating a bright enough light to momentarily incapacitate everyone in the crowd not expecting it.
Justicia landed on her feet in amongst the Kyle McCanns, all in a khaki flannel over shirt and dirty work denim pants, and pressed the button on her headset, triggering the frequency of sound that would all her newly named Justice Mode to take over and allow her to do the amazing things she will become known for.
The sensation washed through her as she was taken over, just as everyone else came to from their disorientation.
All hell broke loose as instantly Justicia and Two Tone went to work fighting with the clones. They all moved in the same way as they punched and kicked out but Justicia’s strength allowed her to take three on at a time. Weirdly, the clones vanished in a blink when they were incapacitated, but there never seemed to be any relief form the strength of the army.
Across from her, Two Tone engaged in close quarter combat with some other Kyle McCann clones. As he took one down, he took a blow to the back of the head, causing him to tumble to the ground.
Trying not to be trampled on, he kicked out to give him more space. He took a beat to study the clone's movements and he noted that they strangely didn’t seem to be taking a lot of notice of him. They just mindlessly continued to lash out in synchronicity with one another.
Two Tone erupted out with a burst of sound wave that sent those within a small radius around him flying back and then disappearing, giving him space to get back to his feet.

He saw Justicia savagely working her way through the ones near her, but noticed the clones were also doing the same movements.
“Will the real Kyle McCann show yourself!” Two Tone shouted, projecting his voice to sound as if he was speaking through a mega phone.
“We are all Kyle McCann,” they said in unison. “We are the One Man Army. You'll have a job finding me. As long as the original me is safe, the army will keep fighting.”
“So now we’re just playing ‘Where’s Waldo?’” he muttered to himself. “Justicia, I need you to keep going. I’m going to look for the real Slim Shady,” he said through his communicator. She didn’t reply, despite him persistently telling her in their training to do so.
Two Tone ducked and fought his way through the crowd to the edge. Finding a tall scaffolding tower, he climbed up to give him a better view. He could see there were plenty of hiding spaces someone could be hiding in to ensure he was able to keep his clones fighting.
There were still a hundred or so clones still moving in unison that were keeping Justicia busy. When one seemed to disappear, two more seemed to appear. From his vantage point, he sent out an intensely loud and strong rhythm of vibrations that pulsed out from him. Two Tone could tell it was having an effect because the clones had slowed down, meaning the OG Kyle McCann was close and was being effected by the pulsing beat reverberations.
The Canadian hero gradually increased the frequency of his sound waves, the throbbing becoming more unbearable to the vulnerable. Justicia, meanwhile, was completely immune to it and still fighting through the clones.
Louder and louder came the sound waves, reaching decibels as high as 135. At 140 it would be as loud as an aircraft taking off and Two Tone was more than prepared to keep going.
Suddenly all the clones vanished, signifying that McCann had released his control of his clones. The One Man Army was down to one man, but Two Tone persisted for a bit longer before stopping suddenly.
“Thank fuck!” yelled a voice from inside a make shift media tent within the arena.
“Come out ‘One Man No Army’! We gotcha now!” Two Tone called out, jumping down from the tower and joining Justicia on the ground. They walked over to the tent entrance. “Why don’t you just lobby your state governor? Go about this the proper way? Violence didn’t solve anything for you today. It never does.”
“Are you going to come out, you dick?” Justicia growled, still in her deep, Justice (rage) voice, which made her sound possessed.
Two Tone gave her a side eye glance. “Hey, leave me to do the reasoning, alright?”
“Yeah I’ll come out,” Kyle shouted out. The noise Two Tone had inflicted on him had caused him to speak only in shouts.
He appeared at the tent entrance looking frazzled, with a trickle of blood from his right ear. He wasn't alone, he was with one other identical version of him. “If you can work out which one is me.”
Another Kyle appeared and another and another and they all ran out of the tent, pushing past Two Tone and Justicia.
“They just keep coming,” Justicia observed. Neither of them tried to stop him. “I mean, we can try and stop them?”
Two Tone sighed and watched the group of Kyle McCanns run through the exits. “I mean, we could, and probably should... But how many times are we going to keep doing that today? As long as he can hide, he can keep reproducing himself. The main thing is the President is safe. We've made that happen so this attention seeking loser will soon get bored when there's no one giving him attention."
“So no more fighting?”
“Nah. Let him go for now. We’ll get him another time."
“Ok, fine,” Justicia said, her voice now reverting back to normal and her Justice mode subsiding. “But just know that I could have gone on all day.”
“Oh, I know you could,” he said smiling. He turned and headed out of the now deserted arena and Justicia followed by his side. “Can I just say how well that went?! Our second time out as a duo, but our first real official call out just as a team… The moment we trained for! We did it! How do you feel?”
“...Good.”
“Right. Well, I’m glad then. We'll get back to The Secretary now and fill her in. Someone needs to know the One Man Army is still out there. He shouldn't be hard to find.”
As they walked, Justicia asked suddenly, “How many times would you clone yourself and what for?”
Two Tone was rather taken aback by the personal interest his partner was taking. “Hmm, good question...” He burst out laughing as he thought of his answer. “Terri says one of me is enough, but I’m sure she could make use of more ‘me’s, if you know what I mean?”
“No... I don’t. And I’m actually glad that I don't this time.”

NEVER SPLIT THE PARTY: The Adventures of The Creeping Bam (BOOK ONE: The Job)
TAO is a broken world held together with nothing but magic and the will of the gods who protect it and its people. Then thousand years ago THE SUNDERING struck and Tao was almost torn apart by a terrible magical cataclysm which resulted in the planet almost being halted in its journey through the cosmos. It took all the power the gods of Tao could muster to restore its orbit and set it turning again, but in their efforts it was forever changed – its axis was drastically altered, and it now spins in such a way that one face of the world is forever turned from the sun it orbits, leaving half the planet in perpetual darkness. The various humanoid races that survived and now thrive within the habitable parts of THE DAY LANDS have come to live in perpetual fear of what lives beyond THE BORDERLANDS that separate them from whatever dwells within THE NIGHT LANDS, but for ten millennia it has kept its secrets. The land of RUNDAO languishes under the rule of their warlike Northern neighbours, the TEKTEHRAN EMPIRE, while a small, ragtag band of motley adventurers ply their mercenary trade fighting monsters and protecting the common man from the various dangers that haunt the night and prowl the hinterlands on the edges of civilization. THE CREEPING BAM have amassed a modest reputation in their years together, but they’re still just a small-time party of sellswords, thieves, outcasts and mages. They’re also exactly the kind of underdogs the people of Tao doesn’t yet realise are needed to save the world from the encroaching darkness they doesn’t even know is coming … This is a love letter and homage to the high-fantasy worlds of the tabletop RPGs like Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder and Warhammer and the sword & sorcery cinema and literature I fell in love with as a kid growing up in the 80s, from Robert E. Howard’s Conan the Barbarian (and the awesome Schwarzenegger movie, STILL my favourite fantasy film EVER), The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit and Ron Howard and George Lucas’ Willow, to the more grown-up and edgy worlds of grimdark masters George RR Martin and (my all-time favourite) Joe Abercrombie, as well as a BIG DOLLOP of Terry Pratchett’s immortal Discworld series. IMPORTANT: This story contains material which some readers may consider to be mature, such as battle violence, some strong language and occasional mild sexual scenes. If this is not your kind of thing, this story is not for you. I am also serializing this story on Tumblr, Wattpad, Quotev and Sweek.
