The next morning he is gone. I never went to check for myself, but for the small amount of time I was in the kitchen eating on the recommendation of Carl, Lila and Emily both questioned his disappearance.
“He is no longer welcome in our group,” is all I say. They leave it alone at that, and I finish eating my can of pears. I return to my mother’s side where Carl and Dad have been since they woke up.
