~Him~

Had he lost his touch?

He must have. Otherwise, they wouldn’t

have caught him. This target should have been easy. For him at least.

So, what went wrong. He had done this type of job too many times.

How did they find him?

He wanted to know.

He didn’t really care about

getting caught or what that would mean

punishment-wise. He cared because it was one less job.

He hadn’t eliminated the target. Which meant he wouldn’t get paid.

And he had debts to pay. Too much of his life was resting on this one job. Even if he survived

whatever punishment lay ahead in,

death would only be a moment away.

He had debts to pay,

too many.

He would have plenty of time to

think about his next move while sweating his

strength away in this humid jail cell. If there were a next move for him,

it was up to him alone to figure it out.

At least, that’s what he thought.

~Her~

When night fell,

she was doing what she did

almost every night. She was crying herself

to sleep. She was alone in bed, but she was used to it.

Loneliness was the least of her issues. She was

crying because of how helpless she felt.

Everyone she loved, her whole world,

was in great danger. But none of them knew, only her.

And they wouldn’t listen to her warnings either.

They called her insane and told

her she needed rest.

She did need rest.

But she knew she wasn’t crazy.

Somehow, she didn’t hate them for anything

they said against her. She feared for their lives too

much to hate them. She pitied them because they were deceived.

They believed that nothing could go wrong with the way their world was run.

But she knew it was only a matter of time before everything

fell apart. And that disturbed her deeply.

But right now,

she could do nothing

but cry.
