《The Noble Curse of Ookami [Previously Titled: CLOSER]》Fractured Light

A few days passed, Kentarou issued a public apology supervised by both Yuukai and Raizen, also accompanied by his team. The guardians and the residents had varied opinions about this, but then Raizen proposed an assembly to settle Kentarou's fate.
Luckily, the residents forgave Kentarou's past killings on the terms of helping the community for the next 6 months, while living in a supervised house without any permission to go outside at nighttime.
After discussing back and forth, Kentarou finally agreed to the terms. The following morning, Kentarou waved farewell to his teammates to live in the residents area and serve his duty. "I'll fight again with you guys someday," he said as they parted ways.
Yato meanwhile, was advised to take recovery in the student health center. He refused at first, but was convinced by Kyuuto and the others. He then grudgingly agreed and walked limply through the hallway, but then stopped and turned his head before continuing, he said, "If anything happens, I'll come as fast lightning," he then smiled and went away.
While Yato was administered into the student health center that day, Ishigaki went earlier the previous days because of heavy injuries he suffered while Natsuki was in control. The team now only consists of Kyuuto, Kazuki, Kanata, and Rin, who decided to join them after the whole ordeal with Akira.
"Yeah, yeah whatever," Kazuki laughed as Yato waved as he walked even further.
Kyuuto threw his gaze onto Kazuki this time, "So... how about you, Kazuki? You good?"
"Me? Of course I am! I'm ready for some action! And I also want to pay my brother a visit," Kazuki answered while punching the air a couple times. The others then laughed as they went through the main door of the school building.

As they stepped on the lush grass carpeting the front yard, they met with Hikiri who greeted them with a soothing smile but concern shown through his eyes, "Glad to meet you all again," he said.
The team then greeted him in return then he explained that he was determined to help the team fight in the future, "... Your enemies have gotten stronger as the time goes on, so I figured that you may need an extra hand," he elaborated further, "I can feel that the ancient souls are getting more hostile,"
"Exactly... Yato told us earlier that Natsuki, the one who controlled Ishigaki's body, was getting more and more unstable as the fight went on. Until what I thought she forgot that she's inside someone else's body," Rin inquired, stroking her chin.
Hikiri then nodded, "Akira and Natsuki are examples of what I meant. That is the stress of having to live again but into the wrong era. This could lead to insanity," Hikiri explained that the ancient souls came with a myriad of unfinished business, and if that unfinished business landed on their descendants, it could become a burden for the them.

The team then prepared for their rotation back to the city when suddenly they heard screams coming from one of the choppers bringing the warriors in.
Apparently one of the warriors suffered terror after seeing something they 'shouldn't have seen'. The female jaeger seemed to be extremely unstable when she touched down.
Kyuuto's team then approached that chopper to gather information, but as they're getting closer, the girl suddenly bursts out an even louder scream.
"That's him!!" she pointed to Kazuki with all her strength, the medics then tried to hold her body from jolting in every direction, "that's... that's the one who was--- AAAHHHH----," the girl then screamed again until one of the medics injected a powerful anesthetic drug until she fainted.

Everyone around the chopper left with intriguing questions about what happened to her and the bases at the city, particularly base 37, the biggest base there. As more warriors arrived, the terror could be seen on all of their faces, making most of them didn't want to open their eyes.
Confused, the team then conversed with the pilots to gather information independent of the warriors perceptions, they then replied, "They said they saw ghosts. The girl saw her friend getting killed, then resurrected a moment later. Turned out, that resurrected one wasn't him at all, and killed the others," one of the pilot then sighed, "the state of the base was horrible, and they're all succumbed into extreme paranoid,"
The team then looked at each other, "Well... I think it's the reason we should take the next rotation. I want to find out why that jaeger is so freaked out when she sees me," Kazuki suggested.

Beyond the Bridge
There are many worlds, many multiverses, and you can move between them via the Federation's Bridge network - magical gateways to other worlds. The world dubbed "C'thon" by its inhabitants - or Gamma-Theta-Nu-649, if you ask the Federation's bureaucracy - was deserted when the Federation found it. The "civilized" races had all died out centuries prior, and the wilderness had grown downright feral in their absence. Now, the lonely Federation outpost of Bridgetown is under constant threat from the hungry wildlife, malicious fey, territorial goblins, and wandering undead that surround it. The town's distance from the Federation's centers of power means that it gets precious few of the resources that it needs to stay safe and afloat. Enter the Guild of Adventurers, a plucky and disparate crew who do the Federation's dirty work in exchange for coin. One team, the first of many, crosses the Bridge to C'thon looking for fame, fortune, and (if they're lucky) the answer to a newly-discovered Prophecy. They'll get much more than they bargained for, although first they need to avoid being eaten by the local wildlife. Updates weekly on Wednesday. Chapters will be as long as they need to be for them to work, which means they can vary. If anything drops below 2500 words, I'll post an extra chapter if I have one ready. [PS: This is not a litRPG, but I do borrow heavily from TTRPGs for inspiration, and the general setting and storyline is from a TTRPG campaign I'm running.] [PPS: This is my first attempt at writing long-form fiction. I'm not trying to make a great piece of literature or have a multi-novel overarching plot, but hopefully it'll still be a fun story - let me know what you think in the comments.] [PPPS: Cover image is from a free-download wallpaper by Tyler Edlin; I do not own it, and will take it down immediately if requested.]
