《The Mob in His Novel》Mavens

Generally speaking, Mavens are a title given to certain individuals who were able to awaken their magic, which is the physical manifestation of mana.

Mana is the energy that makes magic possible; it is present in our bodies and in nature. However, our bodies does not develop mana, but instead, convert the mana in their surroundings into their own.

There are only two ways to awaken as a Maven: natural order and forceful initiation.

The former was the best and safest way to awaken, but it takes a long time to awaken; it may take weeks, months, or even years of harsh, consistent training on a natural environment just to see progress.

While the latter was the fastest way with it only taking a full day at most, but it was also the riskiest. The process is done through having a trusted Maven by your side and release their mana into the individual and forcefully awaken your magic with their mana as a medium. A single mistake in the process can, at the very least, cripple the individual and at most, it will kill them, which is why the Maven needs to be someone you can wholly trust with your life.

What's more is that the chances of one awakening as a Maven isn't high. In every 100,000 people, only one can awaken.

Are there any specific conditions to actually awaken?

Nope, it'll be entirely up to your luck and potential.

This is crucial because although I said that I need to become a Maven, I have no idea if I could become one.

After all, mana flows through special pathways only exclusive to my novel called meridians.

And I… well, I am a trespasser of this world.

Although I do certainly feel different, it may be because I am young and full of energy.

So, I need to check if I can become a Maven and if I can, then with my knowledge as the author, I will become strong.

Of course, it will all be done without severely interfering with the main plot. Knowing what will happen next is a powerful ability to have after all, so it'll be best if I do everything anonymously—as a 'mob' as Don Joe had written.

Alright! In the computer, I searched for the nearest hospital in Dublin City and sent the route to my phone.

Why the hospital you may ask? Because it's the fastest way to check if my consitution has meridians and has potential to become a Maven. After all, they have doctors that specialize in those fields.

With that done, I downloaded an integrated development environment (also known as an IDE), skimmed through its manual and coding languages, and quickly put together a program for my phone that could enable me to bypass most public passwords, which fortunately was possible because their algorithm was much simpler than the one on Earth, and another program that helps me search for any information online with about 90% accuracy.

How?

Nah, I won't say; it's a trade secret!

Anyway, after nearly four hours, I was done with the programs.

I checked out of the internet café and went on my way to the hospital.

The hospital was fortunately in walking distance; I didn't want to pay for an overpriced cab.

After walking for several minutes, I arrived at the hospital.

Going in, the unchanging smell of antiseptic lingers in the air. There were people patiently waiting as they sat and nurses scurrying around with papers on their hands. Haa, this is one of the few things that never changes no matter where you are.

Walking up to the desk, I smiled as I said to the receptionist, "Good day, I know it's fairly late, but would it still be possible to make an appointment today with one of the… 'special' doctors?"

The receptionist was shocked as she looked at me from top to bottom, but it only lasted for a moment. The moment she recovered, she clarified, "You want to make an appointment with one of those doctors? If so, may I ask what the appointment is for?"

I nodded my head, then simply said, "An examination of my constitution."

She slowly nodded her head with a gentle smile, as if she understood the reason. "Alright, I can do that, but I need your information first."

It was probably just her thinking to herself that it's just me being youthful or excited in the prospect of potentially becoming a Maven.

Anyway, she held out a paper that I needed to fill in like my name, age, birth date, and blood type.

I took it, grab a pen, and wrote down the information, and when I was finished, I handed it back to her in which she took and did her work.

After she was finished, she asked, "Do you want anyone specific or do you want to choose from our list?"

I obviously don't know any doctors in this hospital or any hospital for that matter, so I chose the latter. "I'd like to choose."

"Alright then." She then took out a thick one-foot long block and handed it to me. "Just filter out what qualifications you want for your doctor, then simply select."

Taking it, I went to grab a sit. I muttered, "Hmm, if I remember correctly, with this device I should…"

I grabbed both sides and pulled it apart, revealing a semi-transparent screen. Double-tapping it, the screen lost most of its transparency as a list of doctors and their information appeared.

It would be mesmerizing for the common people, but for me who has created stuff similar to this, it wasn't a big deal.

"Hmm." I nodded my head as I went through the list. As I expected, I have no idea who they are, so I don't know to what extent they capabilities lies.

So, I simply filtered out the list until someone caught my eye.

About 15 minutes have passed by, yet I have to find a single good doctor.

Of course, that's not to say that the doctors aren't qualified or anything, as a matter of fact, they are more than qualified. It's just that those doctors don't really impress me with what they've done over their years as doctors.

Now that I think about it, do I really need someone that qualified? I forgot that these doctors don't have much to their name, because they were insignificant background characters.

Besides, my purpose wasn't to find a doctor that suited my qualifications, but to get examined.

So, I went through the list one last time to see if I missed anyone before choosing the hospital's top doctor.

Just as I was about to go back and choose the top doctor, a familiar name entered my vision, making my eyes widened as a smile started to form.

I tapped on her profile and read through her information, and the more I did, the more my smile began to widen.

"Haha… I didn't think she would work as a doctor here!" I swept my hand through my hair.

The name was Dr. Sophia Hodges.

In my novel, Sophia Hodgers wasn't a doctor, but a prodigy scientist and researcher that took the world by storm at the young age of 32.

Although her character was introduced somewhere in the middle, her existence was as strong as the main supporting cast.

Even presidents and guildmasters would have to respect her!

What did she do that would make her widely respected?

Well, it is said that no matter how hard you train, no matter how much effort you put in, you can never achieve 100% of your full potential as a Maven.

The reason for this may vary; it may be because of an illness, it may be because of a disability, it may be because of you've reached your limits, it may even be because of bad luck.

The point was that achieving 100% of your potential was impossible.

Until Sophia managed to research a way that could allow Mavens to unlock that 100%.

Well, in theory at least. She was only able to unlock up to 90% of one's potential and she deduced that the remaining 1o% will exponentially make a Maven stronger than anyone ever. However, until the very end, she never got to complete it.

Although that was the case, unlocking 90% of the Maven's potential was already a shocking feat, and the difference between the strengths of one who hasn't much unlocked their potential and one who has unlocked 90% of their potential was as different as night and day; the differences in strength was just so huge.

Hence, because of her discovery, she became a world-renowned scientist and researcher.

And now, hehe, the prodigy woman is here? And working as a doctor, no less?

I would be the world's biggest fool to let the opportunity of making connections with her slip by!

I went up to the desk and showed the screen to the receptionist as I said, "I want her: Dr. Sophia Hodges."
