RB Chapter 196 Airborne Assault!

As the beasts tussled with the ants down the hill, the people looked on. None attacked as that would also implicate the ants. Eric and Chloe stood by the hill simply watching the carnage that was going on down there.

"Why aren't the birds and other flying creatures attacking?" Chloe asked.

"No one knows..." Eric absentmindedly answered while directing his gaze upwards where the flapping of wings could be heard. The drones were also up in the air, some even had laser weapons, but the birds weren't attacking, so they hadn't been activated as that would be a waste of energy.

"This would have been the most ideal time to attack as the ants are occupied. I wonder why they are restraining themselves?" He mumbled out a question.

"It could be that they are waiting for the ground forces to achieve victory before launching a joint assault." Chloe answered.

"All of this is just speculation. I suppose we will just have to wait and see." Eric said.

"They are coming!" Someone shouted, causing everyone's eyes simultaneously turned to the sky.

"Activate the drones!" Chloe's voice rang over the sound of the others, causing one of the people nearby to run back to the tents. He was going to communicate with those people back in Kampala city. The drones were being remotely controlled from there. They were put in the hands of those who wanted to help in the war, but hadn't yet managed to master energy channelling or lacked sufficient combat experience.

"Get ready!" Eric said to Chloe. His body unconsciously entered a combat stance. He was even going to activate his domain.

"Wait!" Let them fight by themselves. We will only attack the beasts which make their way towards us." Chloe said. Eric turned to look at her quizzically after her words. He didn't understand.

"They have to acquire battle experience. If you try to attack now and defend them, it will defeat that purpose. Besides, we have to save our energy in case those spectrum beasts get an idea to move. These people need to learn to stand on their own two feet! What will happen to them if you defend them now and then after, the spectrum beasts attack? Won't they crumble?" Chloe explained causing Eric to take in a deep breath. During this time, the drones directly above the camp were firing lasers into the sky, battling with the flying creatures. Many fell with holes in their bodies, but sometimes even the drones were also hit by the attacks from the creatures causing them to fall.

-----

"So, this is it! We are going to have our first battle." Leah said as she looked high above. The creatures were still tussling with the drones but some had still managed to pass through and right now some people had started fighting. For now, team 132 hadn't yet seen battle as none had attacked their position. The teams had been arranged in such a way that some were on the inner wall, while others were within the camp itself acting as defense. Their task was the most hard as they had to ensure that they killed the beasts before any of the tents saw damage. Team 132 was on the walls waiting for the ground beasts. Of course, they also had the duty of finishing off any flying creature that got within their range.

Leah felt her nervousness mounting as more and more flying creatures managed to breach the line that was the drones. The creatures were composed of birds and insects. Insects which were composed of mutated bees, wasps, butterflies and many more. She paled when she saw the bee sting one unsuspecting person in the head, leaving behind a fist sized hole. All the creatures were at least one meter in size. The insects were the most dangerous as they were simply too fast! Fast enough, that if energy wasn't channelled, you wouldn't even know what hit you.

"Be on high alert! Channel energy within your bodies and increase your speed! Don't stop until the last flying creature falls!" The cheetah lady, the captain of the team ordered.

Leah did as she said and also enhanced all her senses to prevent herself from being caught off guard.

Bzzzzzzzzz!

As their team were obeying the orders, a buzz was heard. At first, Elena, Leah and the captain noticed it within the first second. On the next, everyone else on the team noticed it next.

Leah only noticed it because she had enhanced her senses while Leah and the captain had far superior ears compared to the next, so they were able to notice it even without enhancing their hearing by channelling energy.

Leah's eyes contracted as a meter long bee appeared directly above them as if it had teleported!

'So fast!' She was shocked, but someone acted even faster! The captain leaped up with such speed that Elena was surprised that the constructed wall didn't so much as get a crack!

The captain spread all the fingers of her right hand like she was going to slap the bee and then long claws, five inches in length grew out instantly as if they had just popped out.

Shew!

The air cried as she waved the hand at such speed that it blurred, but even such a fast attack didn't accomplish anything as the bee simply blurred slightly, only to appear at the right side of the airborne captain. Her pupils constricted massively when through the corner of her eyes she caught sight of the sting poised to strike!

Ting!

Something hit the sting dead center, shattering into multiple pieces, but it managed to delay the bee, sending it back by over a meter.

Leah on the ground was sweating, her hand pointed into the air with blood spilling out where her nail should have been on her index finger. She had acted fast and earned a nod from the captain.

Raaaaaar!

A roar so powerful that the sound waves themselves left traces through the air. All those sound waves were focussed above at an angle where the bee was.

The moment the sound waves made contact with the bee, it started to wobble, its wings slowing their beats. The captain took this chance to slash once again causing the bee to be sliced into five pieces horizontally.

"Thanks brat. What's your name?" The captain asked Leah.

"I am Leah."

"Keep up the good work! The rest of you! What the hell were you doing? This is a battlefield! Do you want to die because you reacted slow?"

"That bitch! I also helped! Why aren't I being praised? She's biased!" Elena complained in mumbles which only Leah could hear.

"Why don't you take it up with her?" Leah asked in amusement while regulating her energy to cool off the rise in temperature brought upon by her speedy reaction speed.

"..."

Leah was puzzled when Elena didn't answer that question.

'There must be a secret somewhere.'

"If this wasn't a battlefield, I would have slaughtered you myself!" The woman captain berated the others who didn't dare to talk back.

"Another is coming!" Leah shouted out. She wasn't trying to save the others, it was true.

A bird, probably a mutation or evolution of an eagle appeared. It was two meters long and a meter wide with black talons, feathers and beak. In this night, it was like a patch of darkness. Except for the flap of its wings, it was basically silent.

Team battles raged everywhere that his eyes could see. Human blood and beast blood intermingled on the ground wherever his eyes gazed. Humans and beasts were dying in equal measure, with mist of the deaths on the human side due to carelessness, inexperience and bad luck.

The deaths of the humans made Eric very unhappy and the gloomy expression on his face said it all. He was grinding his teeth in frustration at not helping even though he could have cut down on the casualties.

Every combat scene only took a few seconds to end as most of the survivors had already learned the hard way that they needed to channel energy within their bodies to have a chance of survival.

"Too many are going to die." Chloe said as if she was sighing.

"I just hope Elena and Leah don't die." Eric said. They had been assigned to a part of the wall where they were far from his gaze.

As the two were standing there monitoring the overall situation, a flying beast, a wasp to be precise attacked. This was a creature five meters long and two meters wide. Its entire abdomen had ominous looking black spikes protruding from it. The tremble of its wings alone caused gusts of wind powerful enough to flatter clothes.

The moment it swooped down within three meters of Eric, an electric snake, like it had awareness jumped from his shoulder and struck the wasp, charring it within seconds. Its momentum continued as if it was going to fall onto them only for it to scatter into ashes.

"Your power has grown." Chloe commented.

"Yeah. I have been thinking about how best to use my power without exhausting myself. The spectrum domain is almost tailor made for those of us from the Masanyalaze clan. We need to make use of it." Eric said as he turned his gaze to the battlefield far off where the ground beasts where having a faceoff with the ants.

"I also noticed that. I have been training these past few weeks and have made improvements. I believe I am even more better at fighting than you." Chloe said.

Chloe and Eric were the only two humans on the wall who were still in their places. The other where furiously battling the flying beasts. For Chloe and Eric, unless it was a beast which had at least reached the energy channelling level, or had an aspect close to that level would it be a bit troublesome...a bit!

"I wonder what that white furred monkey is planning. According to speculation, it likes slaughtering humans itself, so why did allow these birds to attack?" Chloe mused.

"Well...it doesn't matter. We just have to be vigilant. Even though the beast horde is surrounding the hill, these spectrum beasts are all in our general direction. That's a good thing." Eric said.

"Yeah. But that is only advantageous to us...could it be that the beast lacks the ability to strategies?" Chloe wondered out loud.

"Don't try to pry apart its thoughts or you might be led astray. All we have to do is keep an eye on those seven. Thinking about what their plans are is pointless." Eric said. Besides, he felt that it would be a water of time that would use up brain power. He was already overloading himself trying to prevent his body from moving from its position to help the others.

-----

"Drone number 17 has gone down!" Someone shouted over the din of the room. The person wasn't the only one as many more were shouting.

This room was the size of a large hall with many screens positioned in such a way that it appeared to be a gaming center. Many people, both male and female where seated behind each station where the screen was showing a black and white vision of the battlefield. The cameras were using heat vision and the movement was caused by the drones they were piloting. All of them were professionals but since they had never participated in any large scale battles, they had gives explicit orders to not fire any laser beams onto the ground. Their battlefield was essentially in the skies.

"Hahahahaha...I have finally managed to down that arrogant bird."

"Frank! Quit shouting! This is a war not a game! Do you want to be dragged from this room?" A woman shouted sternly causing the man who had been laughing to abruptly stop as if someone was choking him.

"Shit! We are losing too many drones! Many beasts are managing to reach the ground!" The woman cursed.

A door opened at this time and an elder appeared within the room. He was old, but not old enough that he needed to lean on the cane. His entire gaze radiated life and energy!

"What brings you to our humble hall, Sir?" The woman hurriedly reached the elder's side.

"I only came to check on the situation." Elder Muti commented. Bunyogovu was just a step behind him. She was like glue, sticking to the elder wherever he went.

"We are losing many drones and there are zero replacements where the battle is taking place. At this rate they will have to fight by themselves without our help." The woman honestly reported on the situation. This room had been constructed a few day ago and now it was earning its merits.

"Don't worry about it. This was just a minor plan. Those people on the battlefield didn't really hope to rely on it." The elder said.

'That woman Chloe probably already told those people that they were going to only need to rely on themselves. She is talented...too bad that she had a connection to that clan and had to be let go.' The elder thought.

-----

"The last of the combat drones has fallen." Eric said while looking into the skies. He estimated that there must have been about 1000 flying beasts attacking which had been reduced by about 300. Even with the drones working tirelessly, there were some beasts like the mutated bee that had attacked team 132 which could never be stopped unless it was a surprise attack. That was the reason why many were still alive.

The horde was composed of over 50,000 beasts but only 1000 were flying beasts. That was telling. It meant that many flying beasts didn't like to engage in wars. And its not like the humans had even managed to encroaching on too much of the land, so many had simply migrated. Of course only those without young. Those with young had fought to the death!

"Should we help?" Eric asked.

"Yeah. Since those spectrum beasts haven't moved, we should help out. But we must stay on high alert, also, we can't waste energy or use powerful attacks which exhaust us." Chloe warned.

"Yeah! Yeah! You almost seem like a mother when you speak like that." Eric grinned and raced away to the nearby skirmish before Chloe could react.

His words had caused her to freeze in shock.

I have been a bit busy recently but now am back. There is a new tier on patreon that has a few advanced chapters, though am still working on it at the moment.

Our world of Rampaging biology is expansive, so I have decided to write some short skits I would like to call the Lore Files. They will only be exclusive to that new tier on Patreon.

The Lore files will be about many things, sometimes information about things, POVs of characters around the world, what's happening on other continents and many more. They will be in a variety of genres. For this of you who want to know more about this fictional world, subscribe to Patreon.

Right now, I have just released the first file. It's about the event that happened on the Asian continent that's being blocked from the others. For those of you who follow the story, Cleo spoke about it during the establishment of the federation. This event will play a very large role in the next arc. So if you want to read about from the perspective of other characters from where it happened, do subscribe. Though, I will write about it in the next arc, this is a chance to get a feel of it through the eyes of multiple characters.

This was somewhat long...anyway, this event will lead to many exciting things! Things which will push this world to the next level!

Anyway, Patreon charges at the beginning of every month! Don't forget this!
