RB Chapter 179 Endless Vines

The vines once again reappeared within their vision, this time growing far faster than before. It was like they were wrathful, or adapting to the destruction, Eric couldn't tell much about that, but they were still at the level that Chloe, whom he had chosen, could handle.

She copied his exact movement from before, simply clapping her hands together, then separating then at the finger tips, allowing the electric arcs to exit, hitting many of the vines. Due to the rain and the water content within them, the electric arcs were conducted from vine to vine, causing explosions of steam, adding to the already existing water vapor. The heated water vapor caused the temperature to rise exponentially. All the people here had to rely on their SYMORs to prevent their skin from burning.

The destruction to the vines was the same as before, this time Eric took the chance to look around, taking in everyone's expressions. Chloe and Leah were stating at him with gazes containing faith, gazes which made him almost click his tongue, he wasn't a god. Even he could see that surviving this creature was going to be hard. If they had been on the ground, it would have been easy, but being this high up, there were plenty of ways to die.

Elena, Monki and Njibwa had an excited gleam in their eyes, for the other two he could understand, but Njibwa...he didnt peg her as a battle junkie, so he was left wondering why she was excited. She was weilding two long white feathers and in a stance, like she couldn't wait to attack.

He finally saw the expression that he took as normal from the captain's team. They were scared, their faces having contorted into expressions of terror, but they were also still level headed enough not to make any compromising decisions. He also saw that they were occasionally throwing glimpses, his and Chloe's way.

'So they know that we are spectrum warriors.' He concluded. All this took a fraction of a second...his thoughts.

Before the vines could recover for another attack, one of the walls at the side collapsed, giving all of them a view to the outside. The sky had become so dark that it appeared as if night was coming early. The wind had picked up, and the collapse of the wall caused the rain drops to splatter on him. Eric felt a chill, though it went as fast as it had come since his metabolism was at an all time high, causing his body's temperature to spike.

"Leah." He called out to the girl at his side, tossing her a few yellow ATP capsules. They contained powdered ATP. He had gauged that with her meagre energy reserves, she might die, so he had given them to her. She swallowed them, and the glow of flowing energy in her body almost blinded his spectrum eyes, causing him to turn away at once.

'Hmmm!?' Eric instantly entered high alert. Vibrations were constantly assaulting the soles of his feet, as if a beast was thrashing around. That wasn't all as the sounds of concrete being smashed apart entered their ears too.

'It is enraged...so its intelligent...or it might be instinctual? Shit! The building is going to collapse!' Eric cursed in his mind. He had a feeling that the lifeforms had mobilised far numerous vines than before. Everyone's expression simultaneous paled as they reached the same conclusion as him.

"Everyone get ready! We will be using the vines as foot holds. The building is going to collapse!" Eric only had time to get those words out before a jungle of vines inundated them, separating them from each other. With his speed, he cut through many, stepping upon the ones which he could...it was like a dance, a dance filled with electric sparks and snakes.

As Eric tussled with the numerous vines, which were either trying to trap him, wrap around him or skewer him, pieces of concrete fell through from above, some, were smashed apart by the vines, while he had to dodge the others. He didn't even have time to catch his breath as the vines were simply too swift!

Shew!

A vine approached at a terrifying speed causing him to shift his shoulder slightly, a decision which was perfect for the situation, since the vine passed harmlessly at the side. Though, that didn't mean that he was out of the woods yet as more and more vines attacked, even when they missed, they circled around and approached from another angle.

Concrete had already vanished beneath his feet and only vines were left, his steps alone were lethal, causing explosions the moment his feet left the surface of the vines. He was embedding electricity in his feet, destroying every vine that he stepped upon.

'I don't see anyone, I hope they are okay." He thought while trying to break the encirclement of the vines.

-----

Njibwa was having the time of her life, the vines were like training partners, allowing her to home her skills with every slash of the white feather blades in her hands. They moved at such speed that they surpassed the growth rate of the vines! Her hands blurred and multiple pieces fell from the vines. Tons of vines had already been slashed to bits by her.

Vine cages...such things couldn't hold her. She was slashing through every obstacle, making her way towards where her instincts were telling her. She fluttered among the vines, resembling a butterfly dancing among flowers. The vines failed to get within five meters of her. It was simply a death zone, nothing could survive her blades within that distance!

'Energy channelling is marvelous!' She praised in her mind, the excitement in her eyes getting stronger by the minute!

-----

Boom!

A large piece of concrete debre fell from above. It was so large that it couldn't be evaded, and the vines couldn't impede it.

Eric activated the skin cells in one of his arms, turning them into electrocytes. Electric sparks turned into snakes on the arm, eventually turning into a blue glow coating the arm. He controlled it with his powers as a spectrum warrior, sharpening the plasma into a blade. It was so hot that he felt the skin on his arm burning. The mist he could keep it up would be a second, so he didn't waste anytime before raising bit up, slashing out multiple times in many different directions, causing the piece of concrete to become multiple smaller pieces. He deactivated the plasma blade and punched out when they reached his immediate range. The pieces were pushed away, gaining velocity, and making impact with the vines. It was a clever trick, which managed to clear away the vines in a ten meter radius around himself.

He didn't stop there, as the sky finally appeared in his eyes. It seemed like that large piece of concrete had been the last of the building. He leaped upwards, using a massive amount of strength, which even caused the vines he had been standing on to sink downwards.

His leap made him temporarily surpass the height vines, giving him a wide view. Even before he could take in the view, he felt the rain drops pelt his skin, cooling down his otherwise hot body temperature. His arm, the one which had been coated with plasma, was now dark, the skin, having been charred.

But his arm wasn't the most important thing here. He moved his eyes around, as if searching for something. Down under his feet, he finally managed to capture a glimpse of the numerous vines. They had subsumed the building, taking its place as the tallest in the city. They were numerous, varying in width and dark green. From his standpoint, they resembled a nest of green snakes.

A flash of electricity caught his gaze from the corner of his eyes.

'Chloe!' That caused him to breathe in a sigh of relief.

Another area attracted his gaze right afterwards, since numerous white palm sized feathers had broken through the vines, akin to thrown daggers. His sharp gaze instantly noticed the person who had broken through the vine cage, Njibwa. Through his eyes, he saw that she appeared unraffked like everything was in the palm of her hands. He could also see that her hands were blurry, and multiple vines were being hurled away from her in pieces.

'I wonder where the others are.' He wondered. He had tried to get a glimpse of the ground but the heavy brain had blocked his eyes.

'Where could it be getting the massive amount of nutrients to support these vines? Did it store them underground like a tuber? Or...something else?' He contemplated. Even with his arm partially burnt, the situation hadn't yet deteriorated to the point where he had to go all out. He was worried about Leah but he had to choose to believe in her strength. He wanted her to become powerful in her own right.

-----

A teenage girl was currently weaving through the vines as if her body was truly boneless. It was contorting at angles so weird and dangerous that a normal person would have died if he tried them.

'My body...I can control it with even better finesse now. I wonder why that is?' Leah was amazed. The degree at which she was in control of her body had risen. She even vaguely felt that she might be able to control her cells in the near future!

Energy channellers could only control the transfer of energy from cell to cell, coupled with a few minor tweaks. Only spectrum warriors could gain full control over their bodily cells. It was the reason why Leah was so amazed. Eric and Chloe had taken steps to explain the spectrum warrior level to both girls, so she understood that she was currently on the verge of becoming one.

There was nothing more that would bring greater joy to her than being able to catch up to the person she liked.

'Finally!' She smiled while in the midst of dodging the vines. Dodging wasn't the only thing she was doing though. Her nails had elongated into claws and any vine she couldn't bother to dodge would be sliced into bits, corroding soon after. Her poison wasn't powerful enough to race down the bines to the source but it stopped the vines from growing new sharp shoots. The vines which failed to grow new shoots would simply branch out and continue with their attacks, but so far, nothing threatening had popped up.

-----

Eric failed to find the time to wait for the others as the vines, which he had left behind, grew to once again obscure his vision. They were once again trying to trap him.

'I could have borrowed the might of the thunder, but then the others would be implicated.' He sighed as he gave a look at the clouds a few meters above him. He could feel the charge that they contained within them. It was so massive, that if he managed to channel it, he could have destroyed this entire plant life form!

His gaze reluctantly left the clouds, and turned downwards, to the squirming green vines, which were lighting up with every lightning strike that swarm through the skies, and his gaze hardened.

'Let's try this!' His foot moved so fast as he kicked out, producing a large sound. He had stimulated his leg to move that fast, causing his foot to kick at the air as if it was solid ground. His preparations didn't stop there, he even coated his body in a thin layer of electricity, plunging down with such velocity that a sonic boom was heard! He had instantly overcome the sound barrier!

Like a spear, he plunged into vines, causing many to burn up, or explode from the sheer amount of heat that was boiling their insides! No vine impeded him as his body made it almost twenty meters down, before it started slowing down.

More vines congregated at the top, trying to bury him inside. This caused darkness to envelope him, with only the light blue glow from the electricity moving along his body to light the way. The deeper he dove, the thicker the vines became, and the more troublesome it became to destroy them. These thicker vines were a dark green, bordering on black, and their thickness rivalled that of trees. Though, he also found something advantageous, the thicker they were, the more they slowed down in speed, only opting to birth more branches to try and stop his descent.

'I am wasting a lot of energy.' Eric thought while blasting a hole through a vine thicker than even him. He dove through the hole and continued the destruction. Another peculiar thing was that these thick vines leaked too much water when he blasted through them.

'They are carrying water...rain water! The life form must be using the rain water...but, the nutrients needed to grow to this height, how much is it taking from the soil? Could it be that the root system is wider than I thought?' He paled at the thought!

'But that also means that its wasting a lot of energy, more than I.' He consoled himself with that.

While plunging deeper, he became more and more drenched. The volume of water was following him with every hole he made through the thick tree like vines. It even reached a point where he was just swimming.

'Good thing I have the genetic make up of an eel!' He rejoiced. He had grown a few gills in his nose to cope with the lack of air.

His violet eyes scanned the surroundings, reading the flow of energy within the vines so that he could detect attacks in advance. It worked like precognition. He had also unfurled his domain, the water and electricity, increasing its range exponentially.

'This is probably comparable to exploring the Marianas trench.' He mused. A shoot grew out of one of the vines, but he had already swarm out of its path. He hadn't grown any fins, it was just him relying in himself. Tailfins were troublesome, he didn't want to have to repair them everytime the vines destroyed them.

'The origin of these vines...I wonder how it looks like.' He wondered. He was gauging the distance plus the energy used so far, trying to determine if the energy he had, coupled with the backup in the form of ATP capsules would be enough for the trip.

"Eric...Eri... Eric? Are you okay?" An intermittent voice appeared within the earpiece causing his heart to jump. He had forgotten all about the earpiece.

'How can it be okay when I am using my electrical abilities?' He was shocked by the earpiece's durability.

'Shit! I can't answer! I am deep underwater!' That realisation almost caused him to abandon his mission but he stuck to it.

'I hope they can track my earpiece...wait? Wouldn't oy show me going down? They are probably assuming that I have been captured!' Eric started panicking.

'I need to find a way to contact them!' He racked his brain for ideas.

A gig came up, disrupting my writing, preventing a chapter from being uploaded on Wednesday, but I am back for now. Also, I need you help. In my country, I can't receive or withdraw from PayPal, so the option for a foreign account is the only one left. Can somebody help me to create such an account? I will be immensely grateful for your help. If you are willing, inbox me on scribblehub or royalroad so we can keep chatting. Of course am not always online, but I will find the time to be.
