《Rampaging Biology》Chapter 57 Monster!

RB Chapter 57 Monster!
It was currently the 22nd of June, a Tuesday. A few days had passed since their first successful hunt of a large creature. They had had a few hits and misses in the past few days and they were on the cusp of getting the hang of it.
Elec was current polishing a bone knife in a stone. It was an acquisition from their last hunt. His concentration was focused on that task. They had felt the need for a knife since they had to use the hides and, they were fed up of feeding like wild animals. The knife was used to cut the meat and make hide garments.
It had contributed immensely to their current appearance. They were now dressed in jackets made of hide plus long pants. Their chests were visible. Their feet were clad in furry shoes. They were a bit uncomfortable since the tendons they were using as strings to tie the pieces of hide together always rubbed on their skin but, overall, it was better than nothing.
Try sleeping in these cold nights or feeling the dew brushing against your legs in the morning and you will then understand the amazing concept of having clothes!
Eric was once again lying down. They had just hunted yesterday evening and they still had left over meat this morning. They had decided to go out again at around lunch. That was the time when the heat was getting to the beasts and they were relaxing in the various shaded places to escape the heat. It was the best time to hunt!
Eric's eyes beneath his eyelids were of an odd coloration at the moment! The right one was dark blue, in other words normal, while the left one was red. A red so deep that it looked like blood.
Right now he was focusing on the electromagnetic waves being released by his brain. He was trying to move one of the strand and it was proving to be a daunting task judging by the sweat beading his forehead.
Elec only gave him one look and the returned to his task. He had seen this scene many times in the past few days and was already used to it.
'Why isn't it still moving? It should at least shake a little!' He was getting impatient. A day ago, he had finally managed to master being able to attune his eyes to only be capable of viewing only one light wave among the many, and also being capable of only activating it in one eye. But, influencing even the tiniest change to the electromagnetic waves of his brain was proving to be impossible!

He had considered asking Baguma but he didn't know the man's motives yet. So he couldn't expose that secret. That was also part of his frustration!
'I will come back to it later.' That was all he could do. He stood up. Right now getting angry wasn't going to solve the problem.
"Elec, today we should try to head towards the city center. Let's do a little exploration!" Eric suggested. Today they had leftover meat so, they were okay until dusk if they didn't fight.
"We could even hunt on the way! We need to shift places. We can't stay here and get used to the slow life, or we will become dull."
"Right! Let me pack the meat." Elec stood up and packed the meat which was hanging on a string. They had used their electrical powers to get rid of the moisture effectively drying and turning it into jerky.
The two boys, each carrying a backpack went out into the morning mist and vanished to search for their next interesting adventure.
Elec was holding the knife in his hand. The last few days had gotten him to mature. Now he wasn't the same as the jealous boy he had been prior to coming to the wilderness.
His eyes were darting around alertly. He was the one leading the way. He had took on the task himself.
"Elec, you truly have matured." Eric whispered.
"Shut up! The animals are sensitive to the slightest sound. And sound travels far in the mornings!" Elec berated but a blush had adorned his face. He was ashamed at having been told that. The current him loathed the one he had been in the past.
Right now he understood why his father had brought them to the wilderness. The lives of the beasts and their families, their deaths at his hands, and the free atmosphere had made him deeply question himself. Here even the beasts were trying to survive, slaughtering and eating them didn't make you a good person. That's why the two boys had made a decision to only kill beasts which had no young.
'I have to sincerely apologise to Leah when I get back.' Thinking of her was enough to put a spring in his step. He had realised that he had fallen for her. Only her image had been able to chase away the coldness of the night when he was searching for sleep. He couldn't wait to get back to her.

'Why is he happy? Should I read his thoughts?'
(Don't even think about it!)
"Tchi!" He released his dissatisfaction by clicking his tongue.
Elec could also now read his mind. When he had asked an explanation the other day, Eric had told him of the ability. Elec tried to do the same and for some inexplicable reason it worked! But only between them.
It didn't stop at just words, even the images they were thinking about could be shared between them. A miraculous ability!
As they walked deeper into the city, residences started to give way to three or more floor buildings and even skyscrapers were in the distance, the tallest of which, was located in the middle of the city. If you followed the height if the roofs of each building, the city was constructed like a downward facing cone with the tallest building in the center, the tip.
They made their way towards the center at a very slow pace.
(My...Babies!)
"Haaaaah!" A sigh escaped Eric's lips when he heard that voice. He had finally figured out its origin the past few days. It had been from that chicken. The problem is that it had planted a small part of itself, its will, onto one of the cells in his brain. He didn't know how it happened, but it was there, like a parasite, feeding off of his brain waves and sustaining itself. He had come to the conclusion that the only way to remove it was to gain control of his brain waves.
He frowned a little when the voice reverberated in his mind, but ultimately decided to let it go.
As they were about to reach the first ring of sky scrapers, something happened which instilled terror in their bones and made them quake in their boots.
A brain wave, too weak, but nonetheless a brainwave, passed through the two boys!
Their hair stood on end and they hurriedly adopted combat ready stances. It had contained so much of someone's will!
'Impossible! How can someone's brainwaves be capable of leaving someone's body?' Eric shook his head violently!
He hurriedly activated his left eye to scan for that wave. The moment he did, it was as if he had seen a ghost!
His face paled considerably!
'Is it a technologically advanced scanner?...no no no, there is no way it could project brainwaves!' He hurriedly denied the hypothesis.
What had appeared in his vision was a brain wave, which had been projected in the form of a light beam from the top of the highest skyscraper, and it was scanning the entire city!
"Something or someone is watching us from the top of that building. They are strong! That's what my instincts are telling me." Those were the first words that came out of Baguma's mouth when he appeared in front of them. His entire body was tense, with arcs of electricity running through it.
This was the first time they had seen him like this! He was gripping the hilt of his sword with such power that his knuckles had turned white.
(Since you are here, come on up.) The beam once again came back to encompass all three of them and a voice entered their minds.
It was soft but it was filled with authority! They couldn't refuse it. All had the same feeling, if they disobeyed, there would be undesirable consequences!
Since its owner could scan this far, then, they couldn't escape from the palm of his hands if he decided to hunt them down.
"All of you, stay behind me!" Baguma ordered seriously! The boys nodded.
As they walked through the city, they were alarmed to catch no sight of any creature, even flies! It was like, starting from the ring of skyscrapers, no other creature dared to appear in this place!
The distance from the top of the building to the ring of the first skyscrapers was about 10km.
It was silent, tranquil and creepy! In this era teaming with biological life, a city like this was an abnormality!
They traversed the city with heavy steps as if their feet were lined with lead. None of them wanted to meet that monster, residing at the top of the building!
TRIVIA
Right now I have nothing, let me know in comments if you want something elaborated on, as long as it isn't a spoiler, I will try to answer.

Dungeons Are Bad Business
Vee Vales has been kicked out of his home and directed to make his own way in the world. Along with his friend Alforde Armorsoul, Vee travels to the city of Oar's Crest. Once a prosperous and well-to-do city, Oar's Crest has fallen into depression and disrepair. After finding a strange stone that takes up residence in a tattered top hat and introduces itself as Reginald, Vee and Alforde decide to open a dungeon in Oar's Crest to revitalize the city and, more importantly, make some fleurs. [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] Author's Note: Dungeons are Bad Business (DABB) is a slow burn slice-of-life dungeon core litRPG citybuilder that's focused on the day to day experience of running a dungeon. There will be some action, but it won't be the focus of the story and Vee and his friends will usually overcome their problems with their minds and their pocketbooks instead of their weapons. Since I'm participating in the writeathon, I will probably be uploading chapters almost daily for the duration of the event. Thanks for reading!

How to have fun in an apocalypse (Rewrite)
After spending an unsavory amount of time in hell, our protagonist finally manages to escape the place that had kept him captive for so long... again. Unfortunately, even after plotting and planning for years, he ends up in a place not much different from the burning and agonizing Tartarus he once had to call home. Guts, blood, and carnage start to reign over Earth as soon as he set foot in it, much to his dismay. What use is it to cry over spilled milk, though? Tired of the monotony of endless torture, he steps into the world intending to have as much fun as possible. While others might try to raid the Orc Lord with as many people as possible, why not challenge him to an arm-wrestling tournament? The power of friendship will surely be on his side. Why hide from the big, bad wolf in one of your houses if wearing camo in plain sight should have the same effect? Now, making friends and going on adventures would be perfectly fine, if it wasn't for the fact that he hides a few more secrets than one might think at first. This is a complete rewrite! Due to being unsatisfied with the previous version, I have decided to work the story up, beginning from the older chapters! Version 2.0 includes: - enhanced writing and editorial skills - additional information and aspects to characters - minor deviation from storyline and improvements

Thank you for reading my first story, hopefully, the first of many to come. This will be my main story and is meant to help me practice and hone my skills as I slowly produce more complex ideas. It's a litrpg in which I want to only lightly focus on the mechanics as I don’t want to pad out the word count with math and number tables and while I want to add a few of my own twists here and there, overall I’m going to keep this story close to generic as possible so that I don't let my inexperience lead me into a corner. Thanks again to all willing to leave a review or some constructive criticism, without you I'd never improve. Unfortunately, Cover art is by me.
