RB Chapter 30 Only One Way Out

Lena was currently pacing in her dim lighted office. Her gaze was mostly locked on the holographic news. Her daughter was hanging off a ledge...with only an arm supporting her body.

Of course, right now she could save herself as she had reverted back into her human form. The lioness part if her must have been so terrified that it handed her body back to her.

That's what she assumed. But the other thing which was bothering her...actually two things.

First, she didn't know whether that guy, who had the spider genes was going to kill her daughter and the second, was that her daughter was nude now that she had regained her human form.

The cameras were awfully concentrating on her daughter's body instead of her face. Her hands were clenched so hard that her nails had dug into skin, causing blood to drip down.

But, what never changed was her face! It was still expressionless even now!

After a bit of pacing, an idea sprang up in her mind and her pace increased as she made a beeline for a desk which was in the middle of two sofas. It was for the guests. Since she had crushed hers, she had placed her phone on this one.

She directly picked up her mobile touch screen device and scrolled to the contact with the familiar name of Ntenume and tapped the call icon.

"Good afternoon, chief Ntenume." After a beep, she greeted politely.

"You do know what will happen if my daughter dies, right?" She asked without a change in tone.

"Don't worry, ma'am. Your daughter won't die! Besides, she is a highly valuable suspect! How can we simply let her die?"

(Crack!)

Her left hand which had been pressed on the desk had exerted pressure and caused cracks to appear in the expensive wood.

'It looks like they want to distance themselves.'

"Don't be sarcastic, Mr. Ntenume! What is it that has made you change your attitude when we have been partners for a few years?" She felt a sense of crisis. She had removed her hand from the desk. A faint outline of a palm print could be seen in the wood with cracks around it.

"The thing is, partnerships aren't eternal, even those with contracts, besides, your daughter did something which can't just be swept under the table."

"This can't be just about my daughter, can it? Such a small incident can't surely derail our partnership, right?" Her voice was still calm.

"Well, it is a BIG EVENT in our eyes!" Ntenume emphasized.

"Okay, what do you want to make it go away?" She asked with a quivering voice. She was one again clenching her left hand so hard that blood was once again dripping out.

"Nothing! Take the hint woman! We have decided that we no longer need you! We are trying to create something new! We don't need to have any old dregs to corrupt the new system! You can only lament the bad luck of your daughter who has started the fire! But be happy, there is no way we will let her die that simply, that would be a blemish to our organisation. Beep..." Ntenume cut communications the moment he ended his tirade.

(Crash!)

Lena hurled the handheld across the room causing it to crash and shatter the moment it hit the wall.

'These people think that they can just discard me? How can they? How can...? How...?' Her face turned pale.

She already knew that the ten clan system was doomed a few years ago. She had followed the clues and joined the organisation. But now, she hadn't prepared any other plan once they kicked her out. She knew that even if she released the information she had on them, it was just the tip of an iceberg she didn't fully know! It was useless.

All strength left her body as she leaned back into her chair.

'Ha...hahahaahh...so this is the power I have always craved?! Just a little something, and they can just remove me? Could I have been wrong?' She wondered in her mind. Even though her gaze was on the holographic screen, her mind was far away.

-------

This was a circular room, the walls...caked in mud. The windows...just square shaped holes in the wall with cross shaped wooden sticks partitioning the holes into four squares.

The floor was just ground...in other words bare concrete with nothing covering it. The entire construction was like it was simply planted on the ground.

There was only a single exit, which also doubled as the entrance.

If you looked up, you could see wooden beams supporting, what could only be recognised as dried grass.

There was no door or window to cover up the two square and one rectangular holes in the wall.

This building was a hut. You could see the tops of skyscrapers if you looked out of the holes, which will be called windows and the door.

There was currently an elderly man with many wrinkles occupying a stool in the middle of the hut.

He wasn't the only one as there was a woman in a jumpsuit who was looking out of the window. She was leaning on the windowsil.

"Elder, you seem happy." She commented without turning around to look at the elderly man.

"A friend approached me and offered me a deal I simply couldn't refuse!" The elderly man answered joyously.

"Is that why we are cutting that woman lose?" She asked. She had been present during the entire conversation with Ntenume.

"Yes." He answered.

"Elder!" A deep voice called out from outside.

"Oh! He's here!" A note of excitement could be heard in the elderly man's voice.

The two windows were directly opposite each other, while the door was in another direction facing the elder and the wall behind him.

Since she had been looking out the window, Kiwuka was the first to catch sight of the visitor.

A shocked look appeared on her face and an excited squeal almost leaked out of her lips but she had hurriedly brought her hands together and clamped her mouth.

She felt as if her heart was about to burst out of her chest.

A person she least expected...you could even say she didn't expect him at all, had arrived!

His signature brown hair and eyes, well developed pecks and he was blatantly showing them off with that vest!

Kiwuka's body heated up as she almost broke the cross shaped sticks in the window while sticking her head out!

"Elder! Did all go well?" Leo's voice boomed even when he had arrived at the entrance.

"M-M-Mr. Leo! H-H-How...!?" Kiwuka asked after pulling her head out of the cross shaped sticks.

She looked like she wanted to approach Leo, who had just walked into the thatched hut, but was hesitating.

Leo, on the other hand, completely ignored her and had his entire focus on the elder.

"Come, come! Sit down! We can always chat after you sit down." The elder invited.

"Hmph! Cease the theatrics! What I want to know is whether you have used this chance to do what we discussed?" He snorted and remained standing.

Seeing that there was no way to intrude into the conversation, Kiwuka simply leaned against the mud caked wall and decided to admire her idol from the side.

"Leave us!" The elder ordered.

"Yes!" She answered slowly with a hint of reluctance in her voice. But the elder couldn't be disobeyed!

So she strode out of the thatched hut, leaving the two men to face off.

"I didn't miss the chance! Now all that will be left for her, will be your option." The elder said as he stood up from the stool

Remaining on a seated position while your guest was towering over you, wasn't a good idea.

He had known Leo since a long time ago. He was an egotistical and prideful man. He didn't want to bow to anyone!

But so did the elder. Though he was more refined and he knew when to give way and bow down.

"Good! Our deal will be done once I fulfill the end of my bargain. Make sure my daughter doesn't die!" He said before hurriedly turning around to leave.

"She is being tracked by that guy Godfrey Kizike. If I were you, I would hurry!" The elder cautioned.

Leo didn't even pause once as he simply strode out and vanished into the skyscraper jungle.

"I do hope he takes out that troublesome hound dog for us." The elder mumbled while striding out of the hut.

As the sun fell upon parts of his skin, they changed color from brown to a dark green.

"Haaa...its joyous just basking in the sun! Why can't the young ones understand! Being in the shadows and occasionally basking in the sun is the way to go!" He sighed as he trained his eyes skywards.

"Elder!" A female voice called out.

"Oh! You are still here! I thought you had already gone back to your gloomy underground?" He asked without lowering his eyes. He already knew that it was Kiwuka.

"What were you discussing with Mpologoma?" She asked while carefully gauging the elder's reaction.

"Well, we were simply doing a trade. Me helping someone to choose an option while, he, taking an enemy off our hands." The elder simply left it at that.

Kiwuka, didn't dare ask any more as she knew that the elder wouldn't want someone too nosy.
