RB Chapter 5 The Twin Lion Cubs
"I am m-Elec's brother and my name is Eric. The answer to your question is ten times." Eric answered after standing up and introducing himself.
"You are right! The genetic sequence of a human can only be manipulated for only a total of ten times!"
"They can be surpassed, but ten is the safe limit."
"Am pretty sure you have heard of the story of my clan leader. He attempted the 11th editing and that led to him turning into a mindless beast that had to be released into the wilderness, yes?" He asked with a cheerful smile as if that didn't concern him.
That had been a big deal back then. Their clan had been one of the ten powerful ones, the Kizike clan. They had the gene of a gorilla. The moment their clan leader failed, they were harshly removed from the ten clans and another had replaced them. It had been a stain to their reputation.
They had recovered and even shown signs of returning to the ten.
"But, even though that limit seems like a bad thing in certain people's perspective, it isn't truly bad."
"Imagine...let's say the electric eel gene of the Masanyalaze clan, Elec can choose to add the scales gene from any if the scaled beasts. You know that eels don't have scales but it can be achieved by doing that. And due to the supercells, you can even form the scales anywhere you want, for example along your blood vessels, outside or inside the heart...just to name a few."
"Anyway, we are straying from the topic. Some people might have succeeded in the 11th editing, but most of them keep quiet about it!"
When he said that, he got worked up, and unintentionally or otherwise, his gaze was directed at the trio of Leah, Elec and Eric.
Leah showed her obvious dissatisfaction at his gaze during break time as the three sat at table in the cafeteria.
"That lab coat blames the ten clans for what happened to his clan leader! I hate it when someone pushes all the unfair things that happened to them towards us!" Leah complained.
Break time was at exactly 10:00am and lasted an hour.
"Don't let it get to you! There will always be people like that." Elec comforted as he ate his snack.

He was seated in between Mordred and Eric with Leah directly opposite him.
Only the four were occupying the table.
"I would say that it will eventually calm down, but that won't happen. He has been like that since first grade!" Mordred also added as he chewed his snack.
Eric was simply eating silently, not interested in the conversation.
He didn't know the history which had led to that teacher's dissatisfaction, and even if he did, he wouldn't have cared. His priorities were to guard his master.
"I think he has gotten arrogant now that his clan is preparing to challenge one of the top ten. He used not to say anything but now his dissatisfaction has become verbal." Leah said.
"Oh! I didn't know they had reached that level!" Elec was surprised.
"Elec! You are a member of one of the ten, how can you be this ignorant?" Berated Leah.
"That's why, winning my heart won't happen for you!" She continued.
"Wouldn't that be great!" Eric chimed in causing Leah to glare at him.
"The way you look out for Elec is suspicious. Could you be in love with him?" Mordred asked Leah.
Leah directed a disgusted look at him and didn't answer. She didn't like this hanger-on.
Mordred shrunk into himself from her gaze.
'You just wait! When the tables turn, you won't be smug for long!' Mordred thought.
"I will put in effort!" Elec declared.
"But, my father says am still too young! That's probably why I don't get included when such information reaches the clan." He defended himself.
"M-Brother, do you want me to eavesdrop?" Eric offered.
"No! If you are caught, it wouldn't bode well! I will have to wait!" Elec refused.
'Those other scions have horrible personalities, with the exception of you. But there is no way the Matriarch would allow marriage to a weakling like you. I hope I quickly find someone with the qualities I want' such thoughts ran through Leah's mind as she looked at the two doppelgangers.
"Oh! What do we have here! Isn't it the loser!" A loud childish voice rang through the cafeteria. It was like thunder. All the people inside covered their ears.
"Here comes trouble!" Mumbled Eric.
Mordred ran away the moment he heard the voice.
Elec didn't blame him since he would be bullied if he hangout with him. The owner of the voice wasn't someone he or his family could afford to offend.

"Why are you shouting?" Leah asked as her voice turned cold.
"S-S-Sorry."
An apology leaked out of a boy. He was sturdily built and an identical boy stood next to him.
The two were scared of Leah.
"We are here to challenge Elec and his brother to a duel!" The other one worked up the courage to say.
They were Wasswa Mpologoma and Kato Mpologoma.
They were the youngest children of the Mpologoma clan's patriarch. Their eldest sibling was their sister in grade six. She was about to graduate.
They were burly, had brown hair and yellow eyes. Their hair was like that of a lion since they had the lion gene.
They were from the strongest clan, the Mpologoma clan. It was recognised as the leader of the ten clans and its clan leader was the strongest.
"If you can win against me, then you can challenge my b-brother!" Eric declared as he stood up. He was still having trouble calling his master brother.
"Oh! It seems you don't know about us!" Kato said.
"Speak politely! We are your seniors!" Elec glared at him.
"When you can fight evenly or win against one of us, you will be qualified to be our senior." Wasswa said.
Leah patted her forehead. It was the problem with the people from the lion clan. If you couldn't win or fight them to a draw, they didn't respect you.
These two were in first grade but they didn't respect anyone in second grade except Leah.
They had challenged her first but she tricked them and poisoned them before they could even attack causing them to be terrified of her.
Electricity could be faintly seen in Eric's eyes as he got enraged upon seeing the two disrespecting his master.
Electric sparks started forming on his skin as the two twins were forced to trigger the lion gene in them and their pupils became vertical slitted.
The majesty of the king of the savanna was given off as they held their ground against the hostility Eric was emanating.
"Okay, no need to fight here. Let's go to the arena!" Leah suggested when she saw that they were getting out of hand.
She stood up and forcefully pulled the two brats by their hands with the two Masanyalaze doppelgangers following behind.
A commotion was created as the rest of the students in the cafeteria rose up and followed the two towards the arena which was located after the cafeteria which was located behind the school building.
The students who were following behind contacted their peers.
The cafeteria was shared between all the grades, so they contacted all. Even the teaching staff was roused.
Lab coat could be seen sprinting out of the teaching staff offices.
'I want to see the power of that clone. We might need to assign more people to take him down!'
He didn't underestimate the Masanyalaze clan's product. It couldn't be that mediocre after being kept secret for over 15 years. It might even be their trump card.
Most of teachers were also doing the same, so it wasn't strange that lab coat was also heading towards the arena.
A simple duel had stirred up the entire school!
Just thinking about that made Karo and Wasswa's chest swell with pride. They weren't thinking of the consequences. All they thought about was how it was an honour to show all the students their power.
Elec tried to portray an image of calmness as he joined the spectators in overlooking the arena.
It was currently just 15 minutes to 11:00am. The duel had to end within that time, or it will forcefully be stopped by the teachers.
Inside the arena, both the twins and Eric were standing 50 meters apart.
Lab coat, had volunteered to be the referee. He wanted to collect data up close.
Mordred's eyes were also shimmering mysteriously while standing next to Elec.
'This might be the secret weapon of the Masanyalaze clan. I bet they aren't satisfied with being 8th.' That thought ran through Leah's head as she stood on the other side of Elec.
'This has turned into a big deal! These people are here to gauge Eric's powers, but even we don't know! I hope father doesn't get angry about the exposure!'
Elec was frowning with such worries.
What they didn't know was that some clans were using some students as spies to watch the match live.

Lonely protagonist in an equally lonely metal world. Lets follow the story of their steps. Hello, This piece is “Blame!” inspired, as you can decipher through the antonym title. 8 221Apex Immortal: a LitRPG system rampage
"Across the multiverse where the contest for power is the only constant, only a handful have succeeded in reaching the ultimate heights of ascendency and gained the title Apex Immortal. Dominus is one of them, unsurpassed in overwhelming violence, feared across universes. Now, memories locked and stranded far away from everything he’d built, Dominus will face enemies that will challenge even his powers and discover that change is more difficult than destruction." I’ve been writing fiction on and off for the last decade and I’ve always wondered how a peak immortal (or an OP superhero) would single handedly conquer a world that mirrors our own in all of its complexity. As a politics nerd, this is my attempt at answering that question using Machiavelli’s “The Prince” as the primary playbook. The “monsters” are entire political systems with entrenched culture. Expect many versions of real world political systems (and cultures) to be on the hit list. The MC has to successfully institute regime and cultural change without engaging in wholesale genocide and causing the state to fail. Expect things to go wrong pretty quickly as escalating and cascading political and economic effects rapidly go out of control. Methods deployed are not for the faint hearted.
