《Vyndra Stories》March, Part 2

That night Ethius continued walking in the direction indicated. On the way, he came across a lake. He knew it could wash off the blood if it got wet.
It was the first time she felt the water; now that she considered it since she obtained this body, she had no time to experience anything but pain. Nor was he an idiot knowing what had happened to the creatures that were with him in the room.
But he didn't understand how or why ... Maybe ... Maybe it had to do with that black thing that they injected ...
At this time, his mind was clear; no, "clear" was not the most accurate description. Perhaps it would be more accurate to say balanced. His ego was dominant for now, but the emotions of others were too strong to keep in check, and whenever something upset him, the shock made him go wild.
And yet the impression that that human who was part of what happened that day had left on him was so strong that he refused to ask for help, so he decided to go to the nearest human city.
He was aware that it was not the wisest decision.
His path continued from step to step, although he could get there faster if he wanted to, apparently now thanks to one of "them," he could levitate and do other things. I do not try to experiment, since he did not even know if this state would last longer even time. The only thing on their mind was going to the plane that had been built for them.
He and the others were aware of that place, thanks to the system that informed them of what would happen a few months ago. They could have been moved earlier and experienced what physical reality was like, but each of them decided to wait. They hoped, although small that perhaps those people with whom they had no contact, in some cases for years, would become interested and would return to share time with them.
Until they were summoned, it was strange at first, and now that they thought about it, they should have realized it on the spot. That if these people were interested, they would first contact them in AR, but what they received was directly the call to the physical world.
Without question, they accepted, and the next thing they saw was a group of strangers who attacked and immobilized them. These people treated them like lab rats, and that's why they got what they deserved ...

He didn't know if their connection to the network was cut by the people who summoned them or by the state they were in. They were not used to being so isolated in their digital life; they were always surrounded by information. Now, on the contrary, they were only with their consciences, with no one around, no one who wanted to get close at least. Animals, at least the ones he could feel in the distance, avoided him.
At some point in the march, he began to question how he should refer to himself if in the plural or as a single entity. They all concluded that for the moment, they would act as one, Ethius as the one who could control the body, was under the influence of the others, so, for now, they were a "single" being.
The hours and the night ran their innate course, and at some point, he began to feel eyes watching him. They weren't doing anything more than that, so he didn't worry. If they didn't do anything to him, he wouldn't respond.
But one of the consciences I remember and insisted that it could be people from the group that had captured them, Ethius responded by claiming that if they were, they would have already attacked them, perhaps it was merely a traveler with curiosity ...
He continued his course until dawn came. He still couldn't see the city in the distance. But he made out some aircraft in the sky heading in that direction.
He had gotten used to the silence that accompanied him on his journey, but it stopped when his whistle ended in an impact on his back. They immediately accompanied him more and more until he had to jump in the middle of the wave to avoid them.
It took an instant for the projectiles to go in his direction, but he had already moved. There were about ten humans carrying weapons. He could also sense others more hidden, who could be a threat.
They were attempting against his life, so it was a unilateral decision to end the existence of these vermin. They were no longer considered human.
He began his charge towards those he could see. Anger did not allow him to act logically; if they were in a better state of mind, they would have used the experience they had gained fighting in the time that they had a human ... But now, the sensations and emotions were too abrasive to think coherently.

When he was only a few meters from the armed individuals, he felt a substantial impact on his right that knocked him off course. It was quite painful.
As he fell, he could see who it was that attacked him, and he was also human, he had a smile of pleasure on his face. He was equipped with armor, and objects were floating around him. There were 6 of the four of them looked like shields, and the rest were spearheads.
Behind this human were three more, and equipped in the same way. It was a gifted team.
He thought of resisting the projectiles and directly attacking the gifted, but what he did was again targeting those equipped with firearms.
Now just a few meters away, he released his mental shock; they immediately fell to the ground.
At the same time, the gifted weapons struck him again, but this time it seemed they intended to contain him. They did not even take into account those who had fallen unconscious. They surrounded him and continued to bombard.
- How is it that you hold so much?
- It wasn't supposed to be a problem. These idiots withheld information from us.
- We'll discuss that later. If it is so hard, we cannot guarantee to capture him alive. - said the leader to those who were watching through them.
Ethius dodged and took the attacks he couldn't, but didn't respond. He reevaluated them again; they weren't a threat to him. So he would take advantage of this situation to measure his capabilities ...
- Could you give it up? - Shouted another, tired of the situation that continued to spread.
- Wait, that skill… can't he do it again?
When he heard this, he realized that if they followed that line of thought, they would walk away. Therefore they could run out, so I would finish them off now.
[if I can]
He answered, and the astonishment could be seen on the faces of the four to hear a voice in their heads. They immediately tried to flee, but it was too late ...
Ethius was well aware that blood would scare humans, so, after cleansing himself, he continued his journey.
He was worried that more people would intercept him, but he chose to go faster. He wanted someone to help him ... he would surely meet people in the city who would give him a hand.
After the last fight, he just wanted to go to a quiet place. He did not know how long he would remain "sane," and he no longer expected to find his ... his human companions.
A few hours later…
The top brass of America was watching a video. This was sent directly on the government network, and they still could not identify the sender, or where the team that was facing the being was from since they had censored their voices and faces.
The singularity had confirmed that the humanoid they were watching as a team of gifted hacks away was not in their "catalog" of creatures. But this one had some recognizable features, but since it wasn't connected to the network, that was all I could comment on.
There were many implications in the existence of this material.
One team confirmed that the beast was currently heading for the city, and another was looking for the details that the singularity mentioned.
Now they had to decide the course of action. They did not know why he faced that team or if he could reason with this being, and due to the violence with which he acted, it could not be confirmed if he was only defending himself, and what the exact situation was. For now, they agreed that they should not let him reach the city.
They decided to capture it.
One sector, in particular, argued that perhaps it would be necessary, as they needed to know what exactly it was if there were more like him, considering that he could quickly kill those gifted.
Although they seemed to be ones without the "awakening," this was difficult to confirm with the video. They were also well-equipped and state-of-the-art weapons. So they didn't know exactly what the limit of their strength was.
With this in mind, they chose a Beta to do the job.
A Beta was an "armor" wielded by select units of the army. With it, the forces of the gifted were strengthened, even depending on the individual, an army of one man could result. The latter were only stationed at the limits of the solar system, or where needed, the general public would never see them in action. They were part of the entire army of all Vyndra.
As the Beta prepared, one of the drones sent to monitor the humanoid was broadcasting scenes where another team was trying to stop the creature.

An Unwilling Monster
In the city of Kholakel, the highlight of the year for the upper classes is the annual monster pacification of the misty woods. Ostensibly it's a culling of the monster population to prevent them encroaching on urban areas, but it's an open secret that it's actually treated as more of a blood sport, the participants competing to score the most kills. After all, why else would the politicians and elites of the city bother to attend personally? Given the intense competition and high-tech weapons and gear in use, one might wonder how the forest has not yet been completely depopulated. As this year's culling approaches, a group of unfortunate children are about to discover the answer first-hand, but thanks to an unexpected twist of fate, one of them will score the chance to play the role of the hunter instead of the prey. This was an attempt at writing something darker than my usual fare. The story I actually ended up with isn't as mean to the MC as I'd originally planned out, to the point that I'm not sure the story deserves the horror/grimdark tags anymore, but this is still an unfair world with unambiguously evil antagonists. Chapters are short to start with, but get longer once the first act is over.
