《Chaotic Legacy》Chapter 30: Information Tablet

After the roll call Cayden dropped off Lapsa in the Kitchen, with Cronix leaving the crow to watch out for him. Cayden then proceeded to guide the two of them towards Riley's room.
Cayden frowned after making it halfway there, he leaned over to Cronix and whispered, "We're being followed."
Cronix took a quick glance back, and saw nothing, "How do you know?"
"I can smell them, if we keep walking we should be fine." Cayden acted normal, but his speed slowly increased.
Once they were out of sight, a flawless five star Caster revealed themselves, a bit out of breath and wearing a frown on their face,
Even with the invisibility spell, I was still noticed...
The flawless five star Caster quickly used the spell again, disappearing from view once more.
Cayden and Cronix made their way to Riley's room, Cayden knocked on the door, and after a few minutes Riley answered.
"Young master Riley, you summoned us." Cayden said in a very respectful tone.
Riley was confused for a moment before he realized what was going on, and using his most haughty voice he said, "Took you long enough, get inside, you're lucky I don't destroy your magic expanse right now."
Once the two got inside, Riley quickly closed the door, "Who's following you?"
"A guard, but that doesn't matter right now, we need to go back... Is that the ice sculptures you were talking about." Cayden asked, gesturing at the ice sculptures in the corner of Riley's room.
Riley glanced back and nodded.
Cronix grabbed Cayden by the shoulder, "You're getting distracted."
"You're right, sorry, Riley, we need your help." Cayden quickly explained their situation.
Riley frowned, "That is a problem, but... There is nothing I can do, we've restricted the access of demi-human to the outside world."
"Wait, but aren't you the young master, can't you do something?"
Riley looked at Cronix, who asked the question, and shook his head, "I can't do anything like that without Onyx's permission."
"We're screwed." Cayden muttered.
Riley smiled, "No, you're not."
Both boys looked at him.
Riley elaborated, "It's simple, I'll go."
Cayden chuckled, "We appreciate the offer, but Cronix kinda has to be able to see the formation."
Riley ignored Cayden, and spoke to Cronix, "Would an information tablet suffice?"
Cronix's eyebrows tilted, "Information tablet?"
Riley brought out a small, flat slab of an unknown transparent material, "This is an information tablet." Riley passed Cronix the tablet.
When Cronix picked it up, the mental energy inside his body stirred, causing him to frown, "What does this thing do?"
"It copies people's memories inside the tablet, that way other people could also see what they saw," RIley explained, "But before I go I need to know what the teleportation array looks like."
Cronix frowned, "I don't have the formation book with me?"
"Just use the information tablet, all you have to do is put the tablet on your forehead and think about what you want to share."

Cronix nodded, but something suddenly hit him, "Can't I just try to remember the formation from Party Mansion myself, then I could use this to memorize it?"
Riley paused, "Yeah, you could." Riley's tone sounded disappointed.
Cronix smiled and followed Riley's instructions, putting the tablet on his forehead and thinking about the teleportation array, yet he suddenly felt like something was wrong.
The tablet began emitting a formless energy that entered Cronix's head, causing a small surge of panic to appear in Cronix's heart.
When the energy from the tablet penetrated Cronix's mental expanse, Cronix's consciousness was pulled from his physical body and into his mental expanse.
Cronix frowned, "Why am I here?"
The energy from the tablet was about to merge with Cronix's mental energy but two powers emerged to destroy it.
One was his own mental energy, it was going crazy, destroying every bit of the tablet's energy, and the other energy was one Cronix recognized to be from the pendant.
Strangely enough the gentleness of the pendant's energy was gone, or at least there was no gentleness towards the foreign energy of the tablet.
Cronix's frown deepened, "What the heck is happening? Did Riley trick me? No, Cayden believes in him, but... should I?"
Cronix sighed, "Whatever, if he betrays us I'm already dead." Cronix quickly got a hold on his mental energy, and as for the pendant's energy it wasn't that hard to control, it was actually very cooperative.
"This is my mental expanse yet everything treats themselves like a king here." Cronix muttered, after he realized the tablet's energy disappeared without a trace.
"Where the heck did it go?" When Cronix started looking around he noticed something interesting, the balls of water elements were still there, still in a ball shape without any change.
The tablet's energy reappeared moments later, drawing his attention away from the water balls and onto what was in the energy's grasp.
A surge of panic entered Cronix's mind interrupting his concentration and he lost control of his mental energy.
His mental energy immediately surrounded the tablet's energy and attacked. The tablet's energy was obviously not made for any type of defense since Cronix's mental energy quickly destroyed it.
And Cronix saw the thing, or the flakes, in its grasp remain before it was reabsorbed into the mental expanse, He was suddenly greeted with the image of the teleportation array according to his memories.
As for what was happening outside of Cronix's mental expanse, both Cayden and Riley had confused looks on their faces,
Ever since Cronix put the information tablet on his head, he had a blank expression on his face.
"Riley... Is he okay?"
RIley frowned, "I don't know, this has never happened before, or at least I never seen this before."
Cayden grabbed Cronix by the shoulder, and as he was about to shake, Cronix woke up from his trance and grabbed Cayden's shoulder instead, his breathing heavy.
"I know... I know where my... memories are..." Cronix managed to say between breaths.

Cayden frowned, took a quick look at Riley and asked, "Memories?"
"My memories... I... I don't have any... But now... I know where they are... They were with me all the time... Just trapped!" Even if Cronix could barely breathe, he couldn't keep the excitement off his face.
Riley sighed, "Can you guys deal with that later, I don't think you guys can afford to waste much time."
Cayden nodded, and took the information tablet from Cronix, which now had very small cracks, and placed it on his own forehead, he remembered the formation he saw in Party Mansion when Cronix pointed it out.
The memories were quickly imprinted on the tablet, and handed to Cronix.
"Great, this is all you need, so you guys could get going."
Cayden frowned when he heard that, and he asked, "What's our excuse?"
"Excuse?"
"For being here? We're still being watched, and right outside that door is still that invisible...Hmm, What's the right insult...?"
RIley held up his hands in defeat, "Yeah, I completely forgot about that, okay, I order you if an Ayuna or anyone you view as an enemy asks why you were in here, you were doing the finishing touches of the ice sculptures."
Both boys felt a sensation on their neck, and Riley began to wave them away. Once they left the room, Cayden leaned over to Cronix, "You'll explain this memory business when we get back to the room."
Cronix didn't say anything, he was still stunned by his findings.
...
Lapsa frowned, the kitchen work was getting harder because of one change. The crow's presence was causing many problems.
Actually it wasn't her presence in of itself, but the fact that she was constantly cawing at random directions, and pretty much causing a disturbance.
Lapsa cleaned up the mess from the breakfast earlier, and collected the scraps that were worth something, mostly lettuce, he put them into his pocket.
Grabbing one of the scraps out of his pocket, Lapsa approached the crow, who sat on top of a cabinet. He reached out his hand, holding a piece of lettuce towards the crow.
The crow eyed the lettuce, before snatching the lettuce out of Lapsa's hands and flying on top of his shoulders, the crow became silent after that.
The other demi-humans relaxed, and nodded in Lapsa's direction.
Lapsa looked at the crow with a complicated expression, "You know, Cronix gave me the task of giving you a name, yet I have no idea what you'll like or what you'll expect, it'll be very helpful if you could give me a hint."
The crow glanced at Lapsa, but her eyes were full of disdain.
"Geez, I get it, Cronix was probably your only friend right? And considering Cronix's strength, you probably were isolated for a long time, constantly scared that something bad was going to happen, so you couldn't trust anyone. Not a good environment to develop your people skills, am I right?"
The tone of Lapsa's voice made it seem like he wasn't fully present, maybe looking at another time.
The crow took another glance at Lapsa, this time there wasn't much disdain going on in her eyes.
The crow eyed a corner of the room one last time before putting her full attention on Lapsa
Lapsa handed the crow another piece of lettuce, and waited until she finished it, "Let's make a deal, if you cooperate with me, I'll keep giving you lettuce, how about that?"
Lapsa grabbed another piece of lettuce, "I'll give you this piece if you agree."
The crow didn't move for a while, she was constantly glancing between Lapsa and the lettuce, and after a few moments, she plucked the lettuce out of his hands.
Lapsa smiled, "Good."
A few hours passed by, and after picking up the dinner service, he finished up for the day.
His eyes weren't as bright as before, and the crow followed him out of the manor and into the servant quarters.
Cayden and Cronix also walked into the servant quarters at the same time, and saw Lapsa ahead of them.
After speeding up and catching up with the two, Cayden frowned, "What happened to you?" He asked, gesturing at his sour mood.
"I told her more than 20 names and she rejected all of them, which would've been fine, but she attacked my ear everytime she refused." Lapsa then pointed to the top of his head, where his furry ear had a little section dyed red with his own blood.
Cronix glared at the crow after hearing this, "Seriously!"
The crow landed on Lapsa's shoulder, but she showed no remorse.
"Whatever, let's just get back to the room so Cronix can start explaining about his memories." Cayden muttered.
Lapsa frowned and mumbled, "Memories?"
The four quickly made it into the room, where Cayden immediately instructed Cronix to explain.
Cronix nodded, and explained the situation.
When Cronix was done, Cayden was frowning while pacing back and forth, while Lapsa was lost in thought.
"So let me get this straight, you woke up in a field, with no memories whatsoever, then you find this red cage inside your mental expanse holding these flakes, which you now know are your memories thanks to the information tablet, correct?" Cayden asked, making sure he heard right.
Cronix nodded, "That's correct."
Cayden's frown deepened, "So how strong is that red cage?"
Cronix shrugged, "I tried destroying it before, but I was the one who ended up getting hurt and the cage pretty much ignored everything I did."
"Wait, so in your battle with the cage the flakes were destroying themselves, so doesn't that mean some of your memories are lost forever." Lapsa finally asked the question he was thinking about.
Cayden stopped pacing, and Cronix's eyes widened, "You're right, some of my memories are lost forever."
