《My Batman System》Chapter 09 - Close range

Hugo returned after half an hour armed with a sharp pointed spear. It was expected to be made of bones, or rather a single bone. It looked pretty sturdy, but it was also very light.
"You don't look like someone who knows how to use a weapon like this," Hugo said. "The trick is to find a balance between power, speed, and accuracy. You can focus on either of those according to the situation. In any case, against the Giant Boars, accuracy is the key. You have to kill them as soon as possible before they run over you or attack your friends. Hold the weapon like this and then attack like this."
Jason was planning to learn from scratch, but it wasn't bad to learn from someone who had experience. He needed to save time more than anything now, after all. In any case, after learning a few moves from Hugo, Jason spent a good part of the night practicing them. Replicating those was fairly easy during practice, probably because of his dexterity. Still, he would only feel satisfied if he obtained some results the following day.
As one would expect, Mary frowned when she saw Jason with that weapon. She fought alongside Hugo many times to recognize that, but she felt really complicated.
"You never mentioned that you could fight up close," Mary said.
"I never had the confidence to do so," Jason replied. "But now I have some. If I fail, I will return to the back lines, but for the time being, I think we should try to rent some more trucks."
Mary considered the idea. Until now, Jason never ran out of mana. So, they could keep their hunting speed if they got some more helpers. As long as they kill the monsters in the area, it should be safe.

"First, let's see how well you fare with that spear," Mary said.
"Fair enough," Jason said.
Most awakened ones would fight to get stronger and improve their skills, but the low-level ones barely could make any progress. The group's tanks had more physical strength than the average human, but that barely could be called a quirk, and Mary's ability needed the right situation to improve. With that in mind, they wouldn't mind if they take the back seat as long as they get more giant boars.
In any case, the group moved, and after a while, they found a giant boar approaching. As soon as the vehicle stopped, Jason jumped from it and then prepared to face the beast. Mary equipped her bow and arrow just in case, but she had a feeling that she wouldn't need them. Jason assumed his battle stance, and even though it was his first time fighting with a spear, he was on guard but relaxed. He didn't move a single inch… Until the giant boar was five meters away from him and sped up to kill him with his tusks.
Jason moved to the side so smoothly that it felt like the giant boar was moving in slow motion. Jason easily dodged the attack and then thrusted the bone spear on the left ear of the monster. The giant boar moved for a few meters, but then it fell dead.
"... I did the right thing, increasing my strength, dexterity, and quickness," Jason thought while he recovered his spear. "The monster looked like it was moving in slow motion. I hit the target perfectly, and I didn't even feel any Resistance during the attack."
Jason thought that he would need a quirk that would help him use weapons better, but against that type of enemy, it was unnecessary.

"You are just like them…" Mary said after she approached.
"Like whom?" Jason asked. "The three lords? I would rather not be put on the same level as them. They might be strong, but they don't deserve respect… Not like I deserve much."
Jason recalled what led him to that situation… If he weren't a moron, he wouldn't have worked in a convenience store and wouldn't have been almost buried alive and stayed six months in a coma. He would be there when his family needed him, and now he had no idea where they were.
"I guess that plan will work," Mary said. "The tanks will return to Los Angeles with me, and then we will get some extra trucks. I suppose you can handle the monsters here by yourself."
Jason nodded. The giant boars were too simple monsters, and with his parameters at that level, he probably could fight a small group of them by himself. Still, at that point in time, Jason couldn't help but wonder from where those creatures were coming from? Different types of monsters lived in different areas, but it wasn't like they were coming from a dungeon or something. No one had an answer to that question yet, either.
---------
While Jason was working with Mary and the others to hunt the giant board, a word about him quickly began to spread around. The lords of Los Angeles had people working for them at all gates, so the fact that someone who they had never heard before suddenly began to hunt those monsters with ease began to bother them. The vampire hunter and the trickster heard of that, but they paid no mind to it since they had plenty of awakened that could do that much. Only the ice queen reacted in a different way.
The ice queen was studying the map of the area surrounding Los Angeles when one of her workers entered the room with some papers. After delivering the papers, she proceeded to leave, but her boss stopped her.
"Wait," The ice queen said.
The ice queen wasn't the type to say anything, so her employee assumed that she had done something wrong. Still, then she looked surprised when she saw the confused expression of the redhead in front of her.
"No… It is nothing… It couldn't be him…" The ice queen said.

This is the first story I've actually published so I appreciate any feedback, be it good or bad just let me know what you think.
