《My Batman System》Chapter 08 - Decision

The new Quirks that Jason could obtain would increase his parameters by ten points. It seemed like a small number, but he saw with Fireball that the Quirks could be improved. When he tried to do that with Fireball, he received a notification from the system.

Fireball has reached level two, and its damage increased by thirty percent.

It was quite a decent amount of extra damage. However, the cost to upgrade it increased to two thousand. The level of the skill multiplied by the initial price would determine the cost of the upgrade. Eventually, obtaining those quirks will be more efficient than increasing the parameters alone.

"If with my current magic, I can kill one giant boar with two Fireballs, now that it has upgraded, perhaps if I increase it my magic by two points, I will kill them in one shot…" Jason thought. "This seems a bit weird, but… Hugo mentioned something like that happening to the three lords."

At first, the ice queen, the vampire hunter, and the trickster weren't that strong. They sure stand out among the other survivors, but it took many battles for them to reach their current level. There were people that could keep improving their skills, even though no one mentioned that they had a system like Jason's.

"I should increase my magic by two points, but then I also should continue saving funds until I can obtain better quirks," Jason thought. "Those guys assumed that I didn't matter while I was unconscious, but they might become troublesome if I start to stand out too much. Let's focus on covering my bases for a while."

Jason didn't hear anything about awakened people having problems with those three organizations. Still, he was sure that they were doing some dirty work behind the scenes. Hugo said that their balance of power never broke in several months because they kept each other in check and because they had a lot of work to do. Still, no one could be certain.

"Maybe I am being too paranoid, but I should play it by ear…" Jason thought.

For the next few days, Jason kept working with Mary. She and her friends barely could believe it when Jason was able to take the Giant Boars out with a single hit, but at that point in time, they realized that Jason was like those three. His power would continue growing like them. Most people like them would let the idea of power get on their heads, and then they would join the organizations that would benefit them the most, but Jason kept working with them.

In any case, the Quirks list upgraded once Jason had five thousand and then ten thousand dollars, but he only got what he wanted when he had twenty thousand dollars to spend. It was a bit expensive, but at least it would double his hunting speed.

Mana Recovery Plus - (0/20.000)

The quirk would improve Jason's mana recovery speed by 1 one point per level. That was all very good, and all, but Jason wondered if he should keep following that path. Using magic was good and fun. It was also pretty safe. However, it would turn him into a glass cannon.

"I should be able to use magic… but I can't focus only on that," Jason thought.

It was risky, but that would increase his chance of surviving in the long run. With that in mind, Jason began to work on improving his physical parameters. By using only half of what he had saved, Jason managed to make his parameters reach level twenty. With that same amount of strength, he should be to have the same level of strength as the tanks of Mary's group.

"They can't fight with strength alone because one also needs access to that strength… one needs to be fast and skilled when using a weapon," Jason thought. "The tanks probably can't fight well because their Quickness and Dexterity are low… I will confirm that tomorrow."

"Not like I am complaining since you are helping us so much… but are you planning to sleep here forever?" Hugo asked when he began to close his warehouse.

"I have taken a liking to this place," Jason replied. "I bet no one trying to collect my debt would look for me here."

"That makes sense. There are only people here making enough to survive," Hugo said.

"Speaking of survival, do you know where I can find something like a lance or a bow like Mary has?" Jason asked.

"I had heard that you are doing pretty well as a mage. Why would you wish for a weapon like that?" Hugo asked.

"Just trying to cover my bases in case something happens," Jason replied. "Today, we were attacked two times by groups of three giant boars. My magic can only help us so much."

Truth to be told, Jason easily killed those monsters, but he needed a new weapon. If he were to follow the system's name, he should look for batarangs or something, but even with his strength, Jason doubted that those small weapons would kill giant boars.

"... After a lot of hard work, I managed to make a spear using the bones of a T-rex," Hugo said. "I can lend it to you. It is better than letting that accumulate dust in my basement."

"Are you sure of that?" Jason asked. " What if the city is attacked again? You wouldn't be able to fight without that."

"I will find a way if that were to happen," Hugo replied. "Besides, you guys would have to fight first if the city were to be attacked. If you do your job well, then I won't have to fight again."

"Good point," Jason replied.
