《The Calamity of a Dungeon Crawl》Broken Gem

“That was a lot of information I just gained, but to summon it up I think, there are special people granted with a power to power themselves up through the way of quests that you gain at a Guild, and in order to stay in the Guild you have to give them Guild Points that will power up the Guild itself. Killing monsters is an easy way to level up and animals are out there as food, it is also a dungeon with floors leading the next floor up where the monsters get stronger, and you encounter a floor boss the higher you go. I was not born in this world so I didn’t get an infinite water pouch and I doubt I will get that special quest for the unlimited storage bag, but she did say a crystal orb will help teach magic, which means I might be able to use some magic. I’m not going to worry about that hero weapon thing until I come across one, but the skills you can gain peeked my interest, I should look into that a little more, there’s also the money situation, from what she said, the highest currency was a Golden Tigre Coin followed by a Silver Shark Coin, which means the lowest is most likely some bronze coin.”
I spoke to myself as I made my way down the street, trying to sum up what I had just been overloaded with.
“Adventures Guild, yep, the sign has some weird characters but I can read it, so this must be it, it’s the biggest building on this side of the lake, and all the other signs seemed to be the other guilds, does that mean this Guild controls the floor or something?”
I walked into the double story house, still the same colour as the Guild Hall I was just in.
“Hmm, it looks exactly like a Guild Hall you’d find in a game, it has a bar at the back that seems to also serve food, the stairs going to the second floor are right in the middle of the bottom floor, to the left is a massive bulletin board that has all the quests a player can accept, and to the right looks like a reception area.”
I stoped in front of the door and looked around, it seemed like the higher level quests where on the second floor, I assumed that by the colour of paper the quests are printed on.
“Get out the way newbie!”
“Huh? Whaa”
I got shoved to the side by a group of adventurers, they looked like a rough bunch, wearing leather jackets with a logo of a wolf head on it, they wore blue baggy pants, the classic low level pants you’d find in any fantasy game, they also had thick black boots.
“S-sorry”
I apologised as I regained my balance, I looked up to see the group of three glaring at me. My eyes opened as I saw they where all Grey Wolf beastman. Damn it! I hope they didn’t see that.
“You got a problem mate!”
“Yeah, you know who we are!”
“You asking for an ass whooping!”
The three Wolf beastman saw my eyes widen and started to come at me quite threatening.
“N-no I’m s-sorry, I just haven’t seen a Wolf beastman before that’s all”
I told them stuttering again, as I looked down at the floor. Damn it! What is with me! Stand up for yourself!
“Hey boss, he must be some type of noble, saying he hasn’t seen our type.”

“I don’t know, look at his outfit, it looks like his just some poor, country human”
“Oi Kid! What do ya think you’re doing here?”
The boss spoke up and made his way towards me, I looked up to see him still staring at me. He looks ready to punch me.
“Silver, leave the poor kid alone, you know the rules, no fighting in the Guild, now be on your way.”
A bigger man came over, he seemed like the boss around here. He wore a red tank top, but the top seemed to be struggling to keep its stitches together, the muscles on this man were unbelievable, what did he do, live at the gym!?
“We’re just saying high to a new recruit thats all chief.”
Silver, the leader of the wolf beastman spoke to the muscle man.
“Go on, get out of here you three, the bar won’t open until later.”
The chief told the wolf beastman, waving them off with his hand as they turned around and left the Guild.
“Don’t worry about them kid, they are just giving you a hard time to test ya. Now, what can I do for ya?”
The chief came over to me as I turned back to him.
“Oh uhh, I was told to come by here by the lady at the Guild hall.”
“Hmm, so you’re a newbie than, all right, can I see your infinite water pouch?”
“Uhh, I don’t have one of those Sir.”
I told the muscle man, rubbing the back of my neck, why did he think I had one of them?
“Hmm, I would have sworn you were a player, I guess you’re a non-player, pretty rare to see a human non-player. Anyway, can I see your Guild Gem then?”
So humans where all players? You have to be kidding me, even humans get favoured in this world.
“Oh, uhh, here it is.”
I pulled out my Guild Gem, well, what I thought was my Guild Gem and showed the muscle man.
“Is this some type of joke kid?”
The muscle man looked at my Guild Gem and then at me, his expression turning to a serious one while his tone turned into a violent threatening one.
“Whats the problem?”
I could feel the sweat starting to form on my forehead, this man could kill me in one punch if he wanted to, and I didn’t know where I even was, so it’s not like it would be hard getting away with it.
“I don’t know where you come from or what Guild Rule you broke, but, this Guild Gem is the clearest I’ve ever seen, you take your criminal ways and get out of my Guild Hall before I throw you out by force.”
What the hell!? I’m not a criminal! Is that what clear meant? I found this thing in my pocket, I haven’t done anything!
“Criminal? I haven’t broken any Guild Rules, I’ve never joined one.”
I was extremely scared but I didn’t stutter over my words, I wasn’t going to be blamed for something I hadn’t done ever again!
“You could accept and open quest kid, but you are in fact a player, from the look of your Guild Gem, you must have broke a serious rule that got your infinite water pouch taken off of you, so I’m not about to let some criminal, accept one of my open quests.”
“I haven’t broken any rules, I haven’t even….”
“Kid! I’m only going to ask you this once more, GET OUT OF MY GUILD!”

The muscle man now right against me, towering over me and speaking in the deepest voice I have ever heard, I could feel my legs shaking, his going to kill me if I stay here any longer. I backed away from him and out of the door, he was glaring at me the whole time just waiting to hit me.
“Trash criminal in my guild, I think not!”
“The hell was his problem? Saying I was a criminal, he doesn’t even know me!”
I screamed to myself as I walked back down the street. If I go back to that squirrel Demi-Human, that will make me look even more suspicious than I already did. I’ll try the other Guilds to see what happens.
“Get out of here you criminal!”
“Ha! Let a criminal into my Guild, no way!”
“Step in my Guild again, and it’ll be the last thing you do!”
“Arrrr, what the hell is going on!”
I had been kicked out of every Guild in town, I was thrown out by force, kicked when I was walking out and laughed out. What is wrong with these people! I haven’t done anything wrong!
“ARRRRRRRRR!!!!!”
I screamed at the top of my voice, I was still in the middle of town, the different types of species and on lookers, looked at me and backed away quickly.
“Why do I get treated like this every time! If someone laughs at me one more time, I’ll make sure its the last thing they do!”
I fell to my knees and punched the ground, blood started to pour out of my knuckles, I probably broke them, I could already see the swelling.
“Skill forcibly unlocked-Spell Weaver (S), Skill forcibly unlocked-Weak Appraisal (C), Skill forcibly unlocked-Enemy Detection (R)”
“Huh? What was that?”
I looked up at a voice, but no one was there. Did they say something about a skill unlocking? I better check all this stuff out before I start to even try and fight someone. I sat down on a bench that was on the edge of the town.
“Lets see, this icon looks like an information icon. The lady said about focusing on it, didn’t she? Let’s …. what the?”
I focused on the little information icon and a small menu popped up.
“Help menu huh, but nothing is here, I want to know what the Guild Gem is!”
I screamed at the Gem trying to figure out what even is it.
Help Menu:
Guild Gem Information:
The Guild Gem is used to grant a player Guild Points and experience Points through the completion of Dungeon Quests. The Gem itself changes colour depending on what rank the player has obtained, the ranks are based on how much a player has helped the dungeon, that is why higher level players are often treated better. The Guild Ranks are different from a players level, which are gained through numerous tasks. Rules of a Guild Gem must not be broken, or the Guild and Faction Leader can restrict the Gem and make it unusable for a maximum of 30 days by turning the Gem to clear, but the player will be reset to Blue Beginner.
Rule 1-Interfering or stealing a quest is not allowed and the lost of Guild Points will occur.
Rule 2-Leaving one Guild to join another is permitted at a cost of reseting to blue beginner.
Rule 3-Stealing from ones own Guild can result in the lost of a players Rank.
Rule 4-Players must do at least 1 quest a week or lose points, higher ranked players will be permitted a longer time period to complete a quest.
Rule 5-Players are required to pay a Guild Fee.
The clearer the Gem is, the more extreme the crime the player has committed.
A Player can sacrifice their ranks or an equivalent amount of points to boost their base overall attributes, but due to the difficulties in ranking up, players rarely do that. Players can unlock a skill that will allow them to unlock Gem skills and attributes but due to the majority of the skills the gem unlocks only being basic or little stat boost skills, players often ignore this. Guild Points can also be spent on Gem attributes, majority of the attributes only work if you have unlocked their corresponding Gem skill. Players don’t spend points on Gem attributes due to the little effects it grants. Guild Gems cannot leave a players person unless put into an analyse machine at a Guild, but the Gem itself will turn into a clear colour while off its owner. Guild Gems can be placed in any accessory as long as the owner is wearing said accessory, wealthy players have been known to display their Guild Gem in high price accessories as a statement of wealth, accessories can also be boosted by the Gems skills and attributes as long as it is unlocked. Bestowed gifts can be placed on gems by Faction leaders, Guild leaders, floor bosses, a floor guardian or a high level mage. Floor Bosses and Guardians will often decide to bestow a player their gift or not, based on their opinion, High Level mages can bestow a ‘Noble’ Crest and then the person who is granted the crest can bestow the gift that was imbued into the crest, but the High Level Mage will die in the process. Guild Gem skills can also grant a player the cartographer skill that will physically give them a map that has mapped out the entire floor they are currently on, the map includes the floors flora, monsters, Guardian, Boss, possible materials, average monster level, weapon hero, main floor species, main monster, leading guild, special shop, God faction home and a floor description.
“I haven’t broken any of those rules!”
I looked at the rest of the information, which was just stuff that the squirrel Demi-Human told me.
“Lets try, The Creator” I asked the Gem.

“That wasn’t helpful, how about skills”
I asked the Gem. This time it took me to another icon and a list of skills showed up.
Skill Menu:
Help: Skill Points are a way for players to grow and become stronger, they can grant players special skills that help them with day to day activities, increase their magic capacity and attributes. It’s system of points allocated to a player, and used to purchase abilities on their skill tree. Only Players have access to use skill points and can grant others skills if they wish to do so. Skill points are earned through numerous tasks from as simple as defeating monsters, to completing Guild Quests. You can even get skill points by levelling up your overall level. Common, Uncommon, Rare, Ultimate and Superior Skill are the 5 rankings of skills. Skills can merge and level up the more when one is used, Skills can be past down through blood line.
Trade Skills can be mastered with experience, non-players cannot improve their capacity for their trades. Using a Trade Task without the Trade Skill will result in a failure.

On the Road to Elspar (Book 1)
The year is 1329. The Huntress' War has entered its tenth year, inflaming competing nationalisms and pitting the Confederacy of Caldrein against one of the continent's superpowers, the Tenereian Union. Desperately outnumbered, the Confederacy has relied on the prowess of its famed Caldran mercenaries, with highly-trained and experienced warbands returning from foreign conflicts to the defense of their homeland, and it is on their backs that Caldrein has successfully mounted a valiant defense for a decade. But they are losing, and day by day, with all the grace of a sledgehammer, the vast Tenereian armies take one more bit of Caldran territory, one footstep at a time. Sixteen-year-old Neianne from the village of Caelon has submitted herself to Faulkren Academy, one of the centuries-old institutions established to train the next generation of Caldrein's elite soldiers of fortune, to learn the ways of wars for three years before embarking upon the defense of her country. Her dryad family once hailed from reclusive woodland communes isolated from Caldrein's complicated mainstream society, and her upbringing leaves the shy village girl unprepared to suddenly train alongside other apprentices from backgrounds as low as the dirty slums of Caldrein's cities and as high as the halls of aristocratic power. Yet the war is eroding the norms and traditions that the Caldran people have long considered part of their national mythos, and the tensions within the confederacy that have long simmered under the surface - race, class, community, identity - are slowly but surely dividing its people, and Neianne must grow and discover who she really is, even as the war that she is steadfastly training for comes to its inexorable end... On the Road to Elspar is a fantasy quest - a work of interactive fiction wherein readers get to vote on what happens next at critical junctures - that is the first entry in a story that follows Neianne of Caelon, which first began on July 20, 2016. Originally a three-part in medias res prologue to a larger story titled On the Elsparian Road, it was eventually decided that this section - which covers Neianne's three years at Faulkren Academy - become its own independent story due to length, structural, and accessibility reasons. Despite this being a reader interactive work of fiction, due to logistical and verification concerns, voting will only be counted on its thread on the forum Sufficient Velocity, where this story originally began. As such, the content here on Royal Road serves as a story-only archive. You are, of course, entirely welcome to enjoy On the Road to Elspar as a conventional work of fiction, just as you are welcome to comment, discuss, and provide critique. But if you would like to participate in the voting, then I would be honored to welcome you on Sufficient Velocity. To facilitate accessibility and to ensure the best reading experience, this story-only version of On the Road to Elspar will be updated at a periodic pace, even though further content exists, so as to not overwhelm new readers on Royal Road. If you enjoy this story, wish to binge it, and/or want to participate in voting immediately, you may of course read all additional content via the link provided above. This paragraph will be removed once the content on Royal Road catches up with what has already been posted in its original thread. Cover artwork by DreamSyndd.
