《The Break》chapter 47: Fangs

SNAP
Wait! Did Lady Eguchi just leave us here in the middle of nowhere? I mean I can use this opportunity to do what I was planning on doing but still leaving without saying anything is just-
“She said she had work to do in the Association and left us here for now. Mentioned that we were going to stay the weekend here anyway.”
Huh…
Guess she did say that she was leaving.
Did she know about the two huts in our rings? Or does she have her own huts to use?
Well, whatever. What is my priority now is to test out my idea before she returns.
I sat down on the field of grass, thinking about what Lady Eguchi said before.
“Compress enough… and then enter and exit a spinning vortex in space… I should try the compression first…”
So I took in every data that I could from my own space.
And pushed it all towards the centre.
Violet lightning cracked as the surroundings started to get deformed.
But I haven’t really compressed to a size I wished for.
In fact, the only change I noticed is that I became a couple of centimetres shorter.
Not an ideal state, if I have to say so myself.
So I decompressed, thinking about what I did wrong.
Because I realised that any more is truly impossible for me right now. And such a straightforward approach may as well fail if I do it anymore.
So, with new ideas and no amount of suicidal wishes in my head, I first had to understand what the wormhole would be.
I created a cuboid with a height and width of about 15 centimetres and a length of about 5 centimetres out of pure Will. This Will cuboid will cover the area I’ll create a wormhole first.
A wormhole, also called the Einstein-Rosen bridge, is a pathway from one point to the other by stretching points of space out far. Those bridges were first theorised by humans as a connection between a black and white hole but Awakened soon found a couple of flaws in that theory. I’m not sure what these flaws were as Gramps only mentioned this when explaining the history between normal and awakened humans. One of them was the Wormhole which has been developed in secret to create stuff like teleportation pads.
But if I had to guess, I’d have to stretch this space a bit.
And so I did.
The cuboid became longer and longer. 6 centimetre. 7. 8. 10. 14.
15 centimetre. Any more and I think I won’t be able to hold this cuboid stable. It already looked pretty thin in the middle. I don’t know why I know this. Maybe my affinity is helping out my instincts? That would be the usual thing for an affinity to do but I wasn’t sure.
Maybe it was also the fact that the slight purple lightning was ripping the ground beneath me slightly apart.
…
Yeah, it is that. It is definitely because of that.
“Alright…Alyssa! Come here for a second!”
SWUSH
“What’s up, darling!”
Just like always. Call for her and she will be there immediately. But that ‘darling’ wasn’t something I wished for…
But whatever. Training comes first.
“Can you pick up a stone and toss it through that hole? And maybe a bit quick? Holding on to this is getting harder!”
My concentration was still on point but the cuboid seemed to befall apart slightly but I tried to hold it stable with my Will. my hands tracing over the weirdly shaped cuboid, trying to keep it like that with no extra cracks or couple of lightning hitting Alyssa by accident. And as I was doing so, Alyssa bent down and picked up a rock the size of a fist.
“Here.”
“Toss it …inside the… hole!”
Don’t present it to me like it was a gift! You know exactly what to do yet are still playing around. I can’t even talk properly with my concentration fully on the hole.
But she finally tossed it through that hole and the next moment was something worth watching even if the results were very far from what I desired.
The rock levitated through the hole, accelerating slightly before returning to its original speed. That was all well and good but the speed wasn't the issue.
It was the fact that the stone disintegrated. With each moment, more and more parts of the stone would break down, making the stone look like it was slowly shrinking. And the moment the stone reached the other side, all that was left was dust.
"Did you compress its space?"
"I just tossed it in."
"Try another stone and compress its space."
"Alright!"
Very enthusiastic as always. She took a stone from the ground and placed her other hand over it.
And then…
Wait…
"Hey! Hey!"
Abruptly stopping mid-action, Alyssa looked at me confused. I understood why she'd be confused but there is a reason.
"What was that style of compression? It didn't even seem like compression but more like-"
"Spinning, right?"
"Yeah…"
It was just as she had told. What Alyssa did was as if spinning the space around the stone, and so did the stone itself, and it would shrink faster than I would when trying to just squeeze the space around me.
"Did Lady Eguchi teach you that?"
"Kinda. While I was trying to shrink a rock with my ability, she came up to me and said that any force inside an isolated space can't escape that space nor enter it fully from the outside so trying to push a space into a smaller space won't happen unless you are… you. Someone with a 100% affinity. But then the idea of spinning came up because of the-"
"Centripetal force! If there is no centrifugal force on the space while spinning, the centripetal force inside the space will only pull it inside. But wouldn't that make the space collapse?"
"Let me finish! Jeez… but you are right. It would collapse. Had an… unfortunate accident while trying out my thoughts and granny…"
Granny?
"...helped me out and said that I could simulate centrifugal force by pushing will from the inside but slightly less than the centripetal force so it still shrinks down."
That's it! If I can compress something, or someone, in a stabilised spinning motion, I can not only make my compression much smaller and faster, but I can also stabilise it much better when I decompress the space as well.
Two stones with one bird.
Wait! That sounded wrong in so many ways.
But never mind that! Let's test it out!
"Then compress the stone and toss it through the wormhole now. Let's see how well it will stay like that."
She put her hands together with a new stone in her hand. And before I knew it, pink clouds slowly formed around her palms with dark violet accents going through those clouds.
She can control her space affinity much much better now than before. Not like me, who still has trouble controlling space outside my weapons. This cuboid was actually stretching it now.
With Alyssa's ability, she had a much easier time manipulating time and space as it was literally an ability to affect reality like it was a dream.
And so, she spun the space of the rock she found and spun it faster and faster. And as it got faster, it only shrunk more and more. From the size of a fist to the size of a pea to finally end up being invisible to the naked eye.
Yet you'd know exactly where it was with the violet lightning crackling around a certain point between her palms. And with that lightning, she slowly moved her right hand under that point.
A slight pushing move and the next thing I could feel was an extremely dense object going through the wormhole.
No.
It wasn't a dense object.
It was a dense space. The inside of the space was the same as before but the space itself was extremely dense.
And it went through that wormhole as it belonged here. The Will of Alyssa was pushing it slightly but space knew space best and moved forward just like the rock before.
And it went through that wormhole as if it belonged in there. The Will of Alyssa was pushing it slightly off course but only space knew space best and still made the stone move forward.
And the moment it exited the wormhole, I had to return the space back to normal before I'd tire myself to death. It was a strain on my body to hold it for more than a couple of minutes, that I could tell. What I didn't know was the fact that the moment I stopped the wormhole, my whole body gave in.
Raising my hand, I signalled to Alyssa that I was fine. I really am fine as well. It was just that I had strained my body and Will too much for now.
And releasing it made me relax my body and loosen up too much too suddenly, making me fall to the ground. But I was fine with it. There was something more important to me than my temporary inability to move my body.
"Ugh… how is the stone?"
ZIIP
The moment I asked about the stone, I could hear the sound of an electric impulse coming from in front of me. I sat up straight, trying to get a better view of what exactly happened to the stone that was, right before the sound of electricity, the size of a cell.
"It looks… passable?"
"What do you mean passable? If this happened to me, I'd really hope that I would be alive after that!"
The stone seemed passable? Yeah! If you would glue back the chunks of the stone that were missing back on it, then it would be something like the stone it was before.
But it was way better than being pulverised. I'd rather have my limbs get cut off than die by dematerialisation.
But spinning was the right decision.
"Was your compression not enough?"
"It's good enough to make granny say it was very impressive for me to go so far."
"So that isn't the answer. What else could be the problem? Can you give me the stone for a moment?”
Taking the stone from Alyssa’s hands, I looked at it carefully. Or to be precise, the parts that were ripped away. And the moment I did, I could tell something was way off about it.
The broken parts are not clean but what stood out was the fact that every ‘scar’ on the stone was in the same direction. As if a grinder was spinning around the stone, making the scars point all in the same direction.
Was it possible for friction to happen between spaces? As far as Alyssa said, no force would enter or leave an isolated volume of space so something like that could only be possible if the borders would overlap…
My eyes widened when I realised my mistake here. The reason why the stone broke had two parts.
The first reason was that I tried to take something compressed by Alyssa’s Will through a wormhole created by mine.
And the second reason was because of one certain law of Physics.
Friction.
Coulomb’s laws of friction describe that friction depends on the materials that two objects are made of. Meaning the first reason is actually a part of the second reason.
My idea for making the wormhole changed a bit in this aspect. Instead of pushing a spinning object straight up through a hole, I’ll push a spinning object to a twisted tunnel, making it go along the twists to never be affected by the friction and pulling of the wormhole itself.
So for me to do this right, I have to compress the test object while creating a wormhole to only twist it so much that it would have the same amount of rotations as the compressed object which will go through, which at the end will be me.
A lot of theoretical stuff, I get it. It’s too much to think about in detail but bear with me for now since this seems to be the most plausible way to do this.
But before I can start making this at the same time, I have to be able to do this separately.
I told Alyssa my idea to which she replied with simple confusion written on her face but I didn’t mind that now. Showing is better than explaining to this girl.
So placing the stone in my hands, I spun the space of that stone as fast as I could.
Just push with my Will inside it slightly outwards so it won't collapse and~…
"There! A compression Lady Eguchi would be proud of! Now comes the wormhole."
"Before that, how about slowly releasing the spinning mass of destruction in the palm of your hands?"
"Oh, right!"
Almost forgot that if I stopped what I was doing, I'd make space collapse in itself and most likely take this field with me to the grave.
I wasn't keen on dying now so it was good that she reminded me. I should stop spacing out sometimes. It's a bad habit.
ZIIP
And a normal stone back to its size. Now!
I took space the same size as last time and isolated it in my Will. What was important though was the fact that I reinforced the walls with my own Will. And there is a reason for that.
Because instead of stretching it out now, I connected my palms with the ends of the cuboid and connected the space with my Will reserve itself before cutting the visible part in half.
"What are you doing? Weren't you going to make the wormhole spin?”
“Yes, but what I want to test as well is if I can make a wormhole path travel through my Will reserve. This is the way I’m going to teleport so testing it now would be better than later. That’s why I’m forming the bond from my Will and using the [Simplification Principle of Affinities] to try and make it possible to make a wormhole with no true connection in between.”
“[Simplification Principle of Affinities]? What’s that?”
“I read in [Theory of Elemental Combat] that there exists a principle called the [Simplification Principle of Affinities] which states that with a high enough affinity and intent, one can simplify their actions and distort reality in their own way. For example, someone with a very high earth affinity can change the meaning of ‘lift x amount of earth’ to ‘lift earth’ with the [Simplification Principle of Affinities], making it possible to create miracles with the same amount of Will used in the process. You know that the concept of simplification can actually be achi…”
I was very eager to explain the stuff I learned from the book but seeing that her face showed absolute confusion and a hint of stupidity after I uttered only a couple of words. Seeing that this girl is the opposite of me in this regard, I couldn’t help but sigh at this fact.
Why is almost everyone around me not as curious about this as I am? Am I the weird one?
No~.
I’m definitely not weird.
But that wasn’t something I had to think about now. So while continuing to connect the ends of the space to my Will reserve, I started to split the cuboid in half and spun it around a lot. With each spin, the light travelling through that space would get more distorted.
With each spin, forces were fighting each other inside the twisted form.
And with each spin, my anticipation only grew as I was ready to try out what I could do now if this works.
And especially since one weapon in my mind would only work with this concept.
But as much as I felt excitement, the strain on my body started to appear slowly with my hands being the ones that were torn the most.
My bones were pulled into the vortex that connected the two parts of the wormhole. My skin started to get ripped inside as well and my blood flow seemed to be altered by the constant spinning motion that is happening.
But finally, two entrances were created, connecting space with each other by a linear path from one side of my Will reserve to the other.
Now the final test…
“Alyssa! Throw a stone … inside! I’ll… compress it on the way!”
“Alright!”
CRACKLE
Argh! Purple lighting hit the right side of my face! Don’t make me lose my handsome face! The only thing I got from dad besides character. And it was this face that I was scared of losing from the ripples that didn’t let me hold on to this wormhole in peace.
But a new stone flew out of the tender hands of Alyssa, flying towards the hole on my right hand. Now it was a now or never moment. I had too much time pressure anyways since the moment Lady Eguchi returns, she will forbid me to practice this technique the moment she sees I’m not finished just to make me unable to do any mission I receive.
I get her worry but to be honest, I believe the director is aware that pushing me too far or abusing me would only result in a catastrophe.
Fuck, Laith! Concentrate! You only have a couple of moments before it enters the hole! You can do this!
And just as my thoughts finished at that moment, the stone was slowly spinning with the space around it crackling with purple lightning.
It was a movie-like scene in my eyes. Everything was going in slow motion as I watched the stone becoming smaller and smaller before vanishing in the hole.
This is it! This is the moment that decides if I was a total idiot.
Or a genius that defies reality in itself.
ZIIP
And it seems I have yet to put on the hat of an idiot as the stone left the other hole on my left hand with the stone exciting the same speed as the way it entered.
“Hop! I can’t have you get damaged now, can I?”
Catching the extremely tiny compressed space with my pure Will in the air, I let it fall on my right hand after returning the twisted space on my hands back to normal. No more wormholes now because it was time to see if I was really right.
So I slowly let the Will inside the space push the space outwards and slowed down the spinning of the stone.
And seeing the result laying in the palm of my hands…
I couldn’t help but shake nonstop.
This…
“You did i-”
“I did it… yeah… I did…hahaha…”
It was a moment to laugh at.
The stone was not damaged in the slightest. But the more I looked at it, the more my hand squeezed the stone.
My excitement got the better of me, turning my result into powder. But that wasn’t important.
Because something told me I had only a couple of moments to try the last thing out before I’d regret it.
“ORAGE!!”
VUUM
SWISH
Throwing Orage, my first spear, all the way to the other side of the field. It must have been a couple of hundred metres, right?
Well. It is definitely over 30 so that should be enough as an argument.
My guts were screaming at me that my time to test it out was becoming shorter and shorter.
So it called for drastic measures.
Because what I should trust the most is my gut feeling, right?
Placing my left hand over my right as they both pointed at the centre of my body, I started to concentrate on two ends.
And with the [Simplification principle of Affinities] I created a wormhole directly tied to each end of my Will reserve.
One end at my body.
The other at the shaft of Orage.
Man is this too much novel like! But my excitement was running wild and my anxiety about what my gut feeling was telling me made this excitement only worse, making me smile like a madman while starting to spin.
“Laith! Stop what you are doi-”
You can’t stop me, junior! I was doing it! No one can stop me now!
No one will stop me! I’ll do what I feel is right with no restrictions!
Not even caring about the reasonable arguments of anyone!
I started spinning, slowly getting sucked into that tiny wormhole over my chest. The feeling of seeing yourself spin without any kind of force actually spinning you was sickening to my senses but I must get used to this.
The light reaching my eyes seemed more curved than it should be.
Forces were haywire.
And my thoughts stopped with only my senses focused on this moment.
The only thing I could pick up before the lights in front of my eyes changed totally was not the rippling sounds of the lightning crashing against the ground nor was it the blinding merging lights that have lost their true path and went anywhere with no destination nor direction at all.
No. Nothing of that sorts.
SNAP
It was the slight snapping of fingers that was the last thing I picked up before my vision darkened completely.
The wonderboy has yet outdone himself.
Again…
The eyes of two people widened as they watched the wonderboy, who was able to cut pressure of a higher realm, eat a metal that has more worth than a country and was able to make the man that was famous for having his standards as high as his ego admit that he was talented, did another thing that would seem impossible for a [Discipulus] realm awakened.
“This… did you?...”
“Me?! You stupid girl! Did you think I would even be able to teach him how to do this without the understanding of an [Illustratus] realm awakened?”
“You’re right…”
Angelina Edwards, the Association Director, was confused as she and Akiko Eguchi stared at the individual that just achieved the wonder of teleportation without the concept of teleportation but of Einstein-Rosen bridges or another way to describe it.
“He created a wormhole without linearly bending every part of space…this boy just…”
Angelina continued to voice out her inner thoughts next to the ever so silent Akiko. The lady that is older than most Awakened has never seen anything like this happen. And there is a reason for that.
To have the concept of creating a wormhole with a broken path that continues somewhere else, one has to have three variables perfect.
[Simplification principle of Affinities], which is the actualisation of doing an act with an affinity in a much simpler, more efficient way. It is a principle of cutting off logic for only a moment to have more effects on an action with the same amount of Will. It is not a principle of creating a miracle by itself. But that is where the next two variables came to play.
the 100% affinities in space, weapons, armour and accessories were the second variable. Without it, the slightest rejection could have severed the connection between the two wormhole ends and trapped the traveller in a place no one knows about. Or maybe he would have died.
It is a place no one knows what truly is happening. And a theory no one is risking to learn about.
And the last variable was that the ability of Laith was special. It shared not just the Will of his with every piece inside his armoury but divided his Will reserve into parts to give them to each weapon equally.
In the most basic sense, Laith has no whole soul inside his body but shares parts of it with each weapon, regenerating enough to give new parts of his soul to the next weapon he accepts and grants a name. That is also why Laith was growing stronger by making weapons.
Because the act of forging artefacts triggered the regeneration of his soul. And growing your soul stronger and bigger was one of the two basic concepts of advancing realms with the other being the tough training of one's body, pushing it to its limits.
And with all three variables put together, the possibility of doing such a trick was at least there yet still extremely low.
‘Then how did that old goof… was it another of those? But I thought he lost that characteristic of his ability two years ago?... I guess I have to talk with him once more…’
Akiko’s mind was filled with certain thoughts that only found a halt when she saw the boy reappearing next to the spear he threw all the way to the other side of the field.
Yes. That has to wait. Because there was something called the present situation which she had to handle right now.
What kind of headaches did that old bastard give her that she has to think about it most of the day.
I did it!
“AHAHAHAHAHAHA~!!!”
I laughed like a madman.
But you have to understand!
It’s like doing the thing you tried to do for a whole week only to do it out of pressure.
You don’t understand?
How about if I say that it felt like finishing an extremely… EXTREMELY difficult boss in a game like souls borne games.
The victory and achievement were so gratifying that I felt a slight high after the visions of millions of stars passing by my face.
A beautiful sight.
But leaving the wormhole made me feel weird.
“BLEURGH!!!”
“LAITH!!!”
“I’m… fine… just puked… a bit too much…hehehe~...”
I just couldn’t stop laughing.
I really did it, huh!
Wait! She did see it, right?
Feeling a light touch on my back as I was trying to wipe away the rest that was hanging at the end of my mouth with the serviette that Alyssa gave me, I turned around to see the slightly shining hand of Lady Eguchi laying on top of my back.
We both didn’t say anything.
No one did.
Because everyone knew that what I did was against Lady Eguchi’s wishes.
But I succeeded. This meant that she had no right to stop me from doing missions and earning points to buy myself information.
So this silence was the thin ice that was about to be shattered by my next words.
I just hope it won’t turn into a bloodbath with me being the only victim.
“I’m… sorry for worrying you, Lady Eg-”
“Call me granny like the girl there.”
“Excuse me?”
That was unexpected. I expected to be yelled at by her but she just went and said I should call her…
Granny.
Like Alyssa would. Yeah…
I don’t know how I should feel about this. I mean I call Gramps like that because at this point I am more indebted to him than ever. And although he treated me extremely harsh during training, his extreme care outside of training would sometimes be more than obvious, which gave me two pictures of him at first until I thought that the veteran grandpa picture would suit him the best.
Not like I have any idea how it is to talk with their grandparents. I’m not sure what happened to my grandparents. Mum and dad would always change the topic when it came up.
A sad thought honestly but as I didn’t know them, there wouldn’t be much of an impact on me.
But outside of training, Gramps acted like how I always imagined a grandfather would act. Well, one that felt extremely youthful. But the care was on spot.
But Lady Eguchi… I had only known her for a week now. I feel the motherly care with every action she does but that wasn’t enough to make me call her Gra-
“If you don’t, I’ll have you chained up and tortured for every try you made behind my back.”
“Granny! Where were you all this time? I missed you already!”
“Cheeky brat! But anyways… congratulations on doing the impossible… again…”
“I see that I created another headac-”
“YES!”
“YES!”
“I don’t know…”
Hey! All three of you! At least don’t answer so honestly. And Lad- Granny! Please stop glaring at me like that. One slip up and you could actually burn holes through my body with that glare.
“But now you can ‘teleport’ at least 30 metres in a matter of seconds. With a bit of training, a couple of moments should be enough for you so you should go train under MY supervision, got it?”
I thought about it for a moment before…
“Nah!”
“Nah? What do you mean ‘Nah’? Do you think I let you train this dangerous thing all by yourself? Maybe I was really too lenient with my training and should have done what that geezer would do to train you two!”
“Don’t get me wrong! I didn’t mean that I won’t train under your supervision but that I won’t train right now at all.”
Confused expressions. Hah~ just like I like them! But I had to finish something first.
Looking at an open spot at the side of the field, I raised my right hand for just a moment before the ring on my finger started to shine slightly and…
VUUM
The little hut, which was my forge, fell right on the spot I imagined it to be with not even the slightest speck of dust on it.
“I must say! These rings are extremely handy! Too bad that they are slowly getting cramped by all the weapons…”
“How… many weapons did you make throughout this whole time?”
Looking at Angelina’s expression, I could tell that she had an idea of how many I truly made. And to be honest, I became extremely fast after some time, even multitasking multiple weapons when it came to weapons I did just to improve and not named weapons like those in my Armoury.
“I think if I count the artefacts alone, it should be 376 artefacts with 82 [Uncommon] grade weapons and armours and the rest [Common] grade weapons. I should also have 102 normal weapons which are no artefact.”
“How did you have the time to make so many Weapons!”
“With a time barrier and no sleep, you have enough time to make a lot of weapons inside this amazing forge.”
“You are kidding me!”
Hey! Hey! Hey! I knew you’d be shocked but at least stop pulling my cheeks like I’m a naughty little kid! I did nothing wrong! The only thing I did was make almost 500 weapons in the timeframe of 160 days.
Oh… I see why she is so mad.
Making 3 weapons a day on average was something that could feel like an insult to your average Artefact crafter.
“Just let go already! Jeez! Now… if you are interested in what kind of weapon I’ll make in this hut, follow me. If not, stay outside and don’t disturb me.”
And stop looking at me like that! I can talk like this because it’s about making weapons! And if it is about that, trust me, I am very direct.
Entering the hut, the familiar sight of the forge, furnace, anvil, tools and so on greeted me, putting a wide smile on my face.
“I’m baaaaack~!”
Following me inside, the three of them looked around again with Alyssa being the most familiar with this hut, already sitting on her favourite spot in this hut.
A chair with a table that she put here when I was busy forging weapons after her awakening. And pulling out two other chairs, Alyssa prompted the other two to sit down as well.
“It’s going to be a long show so make yourself as comfortable as you want to be.”
“Not really, Alyssa. I don’t plan on making a weapon that will take me that long. Maybe 2-3 hours?”
“That fast? Aren’t you going to make your killer move weapon now that you achieved your teleportation”
“Warping, my dear. But she is right. Why are you making something fast when you should make something that suits your warping more.”
“Just watch and see what I’m about to make.”
Hehehe! You would have never guessed that what I’m about to do is create a new type of weapon in itself. One that would have me train with it more than the others for a while.
“Alright! First off, materials! Let’s see what we have here…”
A little bit of [Wind Slicing Alloy] and… [Ghost Alloy] to make this as light as ever… should that be all? Or should I…
You know what! A bit of a material I haven't been able to use wouldn’t hurt anyone.
So getting myself 3 kg of metal called [Similis Dia] which is basically a metal that was as strong as Diamonds would be with the property of being processable when put on high temperature and high Will pressure.
Now it was time to make the ingot! Like always, melting each and mixing them under the right situations and ratio to have the new Alloy keep all the properties of the metals I mixed together. When poured into a form and let cool down, I would get a metal that I have to process yet.
Meaning constant hammering to get every bit of oxygen and other impurities out of the ingot.
CLANG
So I hammered onto the hot ingot after the cooling was done.
CLANG
And I hammered again.
CLANG
And again.
Until I was satisfied with the ingot I had in hand.
Now!
I used a saw to cut this ingot into 27 pieces to only cut each piece into 9 more pieces, leaving me with 5 cm³ sticks of metal.
“Are you going to make needles, honey?”
“I’m going to make chains if you keep calling me honey.”
“Uuh! Kinky! Where are you going to-BONK-Ah! Hey!”
“Stop with it as early as you can. Even if I tolerate you talking like that from time to time, having two of the strongest Awakened around won’t give you a good image in their minds.”
“I don’t mind!”
“How nice to be young!”
“HEY! AT LEAST LET ME HAVE MY REASON!”
Fucking exponential emotions! Being awakened may be a blessing but there was one point that would always bug me.
It was the fact that Awakened awaken by pushing determination which resulted in an overflow of emotions. This means that most awakened have stronger emotions which only become stronger over time. And if you don’t train your mind as you would do with your body and soul, you would only become a walking monster in human skin.
Or that is how Gramps would describe it. But my words would be simple.
Too much heart instead of brain. And Alyssa had way too much heart instead of brain, which almost became something I’d worry about.
But I turned back to my work. I had already worked for 2 hours so I should slowly continue with what I was working on.
So now it was time to form these beautiful pieces of metal. I had 9 shapes in mind which would in the end combine with each other to form something along the line of a triangle with sharp edges. The moment the pieces would be put together, they would stick together unless pushed apart with my Will.
So I continued to shape them with my hammer, giving them more form than I at first anticipated but I believe that I had the time to waste right now.
Because this work was important. I shouldn’t really rush it. If I needed more time, I’d use my time.
But the constant gazes at my work from both sides were slightly uncomforting for me.
“I see… each swing moves Will through the whole metal and spreads the force to the area you want them to be. Interesting…”
“So you are making these little blades? A chainsaw? Maybe a weapon to shredding apart flesh?”
“Please be patient… I can’t concentrate when the two of you stare too much.”
“Ah! Sorry, my dear. I let myself drown in my own curiosity.”
“Sorry… “
“It’s fine for now. Not like I messed up.”
I continued to give the pieces their final shape and while I was shaping them, an idea came to my mind that made me take out another kilogramme of [Similis Dia] to forge two cylinders that were big enough to protrude about 4 cm on each side of my hand when I grabbed them. I’d then use a bit of leather to make great fitting handles.
But these pieces were my priority now. I continued to give them each their final shape before continuing on the filer where I sharpened the edges of each piece simultaneously. They were small enough to make this possible and I had enough control of my Will to hold them each at the same time.
If I didn’t have that space affinity training, I’d not be able to do this as I wouldn’t be able to feel their shapes and thus be unable to sharpen each piece at the same time.
The only thing left after making the edges and the handle was the inscription on each piece.
So I took out my little chisel and hammer and started to inscribe some runes on each piece in specific spots depending on their form.
[Connected] is a basic word that allows me to make the rune work like a magnet and stop the pull when infused with more Will. This was how I am going to make the 9 different pieces stay together to form the triangle like blades.
So I hammered more and more with my chisel, writing the word in a language I still have no idea how to speak nor where it came from but I was only focused on my work.
And then taking out a syringe, I tried to take a bit of blood out of my body but the moment I tried to make the needle penetrate my skin…
“Holy… this was supposed to be an artefact…”
The needle bent slightly, making it unusable to be used as a needle. A needle should never be bent or broken because one wrong move and I could damage my blood vessels.
And I am not keen on blocking my blood vessels or damaging them badly now.
“Why do you need to take your blood?”
Of course, you would be curious, Director. I mean, my ability was just straight-up weird in every aspect so curiosity is not something I wasn’t expecting.
“Because the runes I inscribed on each piece can only be activated by having my blood filling them. I can usually mix my blood with a mixture so that I can reduce the amount of blood I have to take out of my body but that also affects the amount of effectiveness depending on what kind of weapon I am making.”
Talking about this topic, I could see Alyssa frown upon my words, most likely remembering my amnesiac state after forging Regina but I still think it was the right thing to do.
“How much do you need?”
“60 ml. Do you have a syringe tha-Ah!”
What the hell! She just waved her hand and 60 ml of blood was flowing out of the tip of my finger into the cup filled with the mixture I use to spread my blood.
The job may be done but that she just went directly to pour blood out of my body with no effort at all made me anything but feel safe.
But I just have to finish my job.
So I took a brush and filled each rune on each piece.
243 pieces with multiple runes on each piece. That may be fun…
But I actually didn’t mind it that much. I mean it was the work I had to concentrate on as well but at this point, I was good with my brush, filling the runes with the mixture as fast and efficient as I could.
And the moment I was finished, I wiped some sweat away from my forehead. 4 hours and 26 minutes.
I may have taken my time but the end result was more than I expected, showing off the matt blue colour of the metal and the beautiful two handles that can be connected on each end.
“Finished, honey?”
“Yes… finished…”
“What will you name it?”
“Name it?”
“Has it a meaning to name it?”
“Laith accepts his weapons and shares his Will reserve by naming them.”
I placed my hand over the countless pieces that lay on the working table. Touching it, I could tell one thing for sure.
[Legendary] rank modifier and peak [Uncommon] grade weapon.
The Starving Beast.
I see…
“Laith?”
You are starving.
You want to eat.
“Everything alright, my dear?”
I can understand it.
I don’t know why.
“Hello? Earth to honey? Are you there?
But I feel like this weapon has something different than the other ones until now.
No…
It is not that I don’t understand the other weapons any less. It is that they are like a baby while this one is like a little child that can already talk slightly.
“Hey! This is now worrying us!”
Let’s see about the name.
I think there is only one name that fits this little child.
“...Fangs…”
VUUM
And just like that, one by one, each piece on the table started to float up, becoming more and more transparent before rushing one by one towards my chest, entering my soul and sharing my Will reserve with each piece that just entered it.
That is right!
Fangs is a weapon that not only is a new type of weapon but also works as my warping network on a battlefield.
That was the idea I had when I got the idea about making myself fake teleport by warping myself.
“Interesting… very interesting.”
A smile crept on my face as I stretched out my arm and upper back muscles slightly before…
“Fangs!”
VUUM
And here it was. The two handles in the palm of my hands, 18 blades on each arm lined up with the last one on my neck, being the centre of my weapon.
“What kind of weapon is this? Is it based on Emanuel Iglesias's fighting style?”
“You know your stuff, Director. But no. unlike Mister Iglesias, who used his knife like they were held by multiple hands, I am using my blades like they are flowing through water and flow with my body movement. And if I need it…”
The blades on each arm slowly moved towards the handles in my hand when I used my Will to move them all to their right place until a short sword is formed on each of the handles.
“Fangs also has a longsword mode but I don’t think I have to explain the main reason why I did this weapon, right?”
“Since when did you have the idea?”
“Since I knew it could be possible to make a wormhole through my weapons?”
“You crazy bastard! You two are truly alike and I definitely know that it is not something worth celebrating!”
Hey now! I still want to believe that I am more decent than that old bastard but if you really think so, Granny…
But whatever! I was finished with my weapon and I can now warp towards my weapons which means that I can go on missions.
“Hey now! Before you feel excited all over again, how about you start to train a bit with the shy girl over there.”
“We will train with Big Sis Ange?”
“Hehe~! I got enough time for this weekend since I have done all my work beforehand.”
“I see you are working more and more like Akira.”
“He was the best of us all, after all.”
Two days that are filled with nothing but sparring against Big Sis Ange? A [Transcendens] realm awakened?
Hell yeah! I’m so pumped, I can’t wait to start!
“But today is enough. We have wasted enough of the day so let’s go back.”
“I’ll be leaving then as well. Although I am free, I’d still check if nothing happened.”
“That is fine, my dear. But remember. Do not overwork yourself.”
“Alright, Aunty!”
SWUSH
And just like that, Big Sis Ange got swallowed by her own shadow and vanished like that.
If that didn’t look cool, I don’t know what would.
“Now. shall we?”
“Yes!”
Taking the hut with me I looked back at the duo that was standing behind me. This was different from what I was used to.
But it wasn’t bad after a couple of days.
“Alright! Let’s go home!”
