《The Natural Dungeon of Bugs》Chapter 7

Jaret’s pov:
“Honestly Jar, I'm surprised your wife even let you go. I thought you said the pale dungeon would be our last job together. What changed?” Ash asked him, stepping forwards. Jaret right behind him.His boots taking on more and more swamp-filled water with every single step.
“Huh, Nothing I….I….” Jaret sighed, marching ever onwards through this dam marsh-infested forest, attempting to come up with a reasonable answer as to why he was here, not wanting as he did to go into the whole promotion thing as of yet. “I…just missed the action I guess,” He finally said, saying the first thing that came to mind.
“Realy,” Ash asked, his dark hazel eyes giving him an intense questioning look as if he didn’t believe him
“Yes, honestly, I was getting so tired of the house life, I just couldn’t stand her moaning for another second. By the light, why can’t she just be like you, Tam? You've never moaned a single second in your life! As far as we all know of course” He jokingly said, whispering his last words out to Ash in the quietest manner possible, not wanting to upset the gigantic behemoth of a woman that was Tam, hoping that it would be another to defer any further questions.
“Ha…”Ash laughed, seeming intent on saying more only to suddenly stop.
“Shh,” Abbs suddenly said, her right hand suddenly up, four fingers pressed down upon the palms of her hand, signalling to the rest of the party to stop. Seeming to like always take extra satisfaction in stepping on Ash’s toes.
“What is it?” Jaret questioned, whispering so as not to break her concentration, a grin on his face as he turned to her, feeling like he knew her answer already but asking the question anyway, needing her to hear her say the words if but only to confirm that he was right.“What do you sense?”
“I sense the dungeon...And it's close” She simply said, Jaret's grin widening, happy as could be, 'I was right,', watching as
Tam and Ash’s faces suddenly became as smiley as his own. ', I was right.'.
“Well, are you coming or not!” Abb’s shouted, turning, already several paces ahead of him, her half-elfish heritage seemingly giving her a boast that he sorely lacked.
“She’s right. Common, let’s go,” he said to Ash and Tam both, and before even responding went to turn and started to run, quickly running after Abb’s who even now walking forwards, heading deeper into the forest marshland than they had ever gone before on a heading straight for the dungeon or at least he assumed so.
Ash’s Pov:
“Are you sure you sense something? Abb’s” Ash asked. “Because I sure don’t. I know. I know. I’m not some mystical mapmaker. Just a lowly scout. I can’t sense energy signatures from thousands of miles away like you can. But still even I can tell that we are lost!” He said taking another swig of his bear-drenched water cup as he did so.
“Are you doubting my abilities?” She asked back with the same typical arrogance that she seemed to share with every other high elf out there, though this was nothing new, her speaking the same as she always had, ever since that very first time Ash had met her, Jaret insanely begging her on the spot to join the party. A thing he would have never have done had he known what she was like Ash was sure.‘Or at least I hope so,’ Ash thought
Advertisement
‘, Aghh, Why does she have to be this way?’ he wondered, pushing down his desire to throttle her, content with the knowledge that he would have endless opportunities to get back at her for that barb in the dungeon.
’, If we find the blasted thing that is,’ Ash thought frustrated with this seemingly unending thought that they were only to be shaken out of his thoughts as the ground started to wake, the sound of an earthquake appearing overhead.
‘Dungeons aren’t the easiest things to find, even at the best of times, after all, “What! In all the….” Ash yelled, scared out of his wits, jumping back even as the ground suddenly continued to awaken, quaking as it was beneath his boots.
‘That’s...That’s. That’s impossible’ He thought, scared out of his wits. The sound of the earth suddenly quaking beneath his feet, shaking the very ground that he stood upon. Feeling the earth twist and turn, shaking inside out before his very own eyes.
Trembling rocks, shifting boulders, creating holes in the very fabric of the earth itself. Hearing it roar like a mountain lion that knew nothing else. Till finally. Finally, after who knows how long. It stopped. The ground-shaking one last final awe-shaking time only to stop, revealing a hole in the ground half the size of an Arena stadium.
‘Welp I guess we’ve found the dungeon, all right’
“So how are you going to...”Alan, the noob that he was asked, breaking the eager silence that had overcome them all, quietly turning to Jaret as a result of his fear. ‘Huh, Remind me again why we brought him,’
“Well, we’ll have to…''Jaret said seemingly preparing himself for what was to come but before he could even get the chance to finish the speech that Ash was sure he’d surely had prepared Tam, impulsive as ever, with quick a running leap jumped straight into the dungeon before Ash could even blink or attempt to stop her.
“Ash after her '' Jaret shouted, anger clear as day on his face.
“Yes sir” Ash shouted back filled with glee, eager to see what awaited him on the other side, ‘Shadow step.’, shadow stepping directly into the dungeons' deep depths. Darkness immediately overtaking him as he suddenly found himself somewhere else.
‘It’s a big room, isn’t it. Got quite a few monsters. No traps though’ Ash thought, his Passive dark vision ability suddenly activating as he looked around, finding himself in a large roomy cave, instinctively looking down and noticing the very large, very dead, spiders standing at his feet as he did so.
‘Tam’s work I expect, man that woman’s a keeper, I could do with a girl like her too bad she’s taken, welp better get to it then...’ He thought inwardly laughing at the thought of her many antics, swiftly moving forwards activating his Level 50 master level stealth skill as he did so. Intent on getting ahead of his duties of party finder as it were.
Matt’s Pov:
‘Finally’, Matt thought having dug through to the surface at long last happy beyond anything else as he continued to stare up, up through the large stadium-wide hole that he’d made for himself and see something, something he thought to never see again. Light. A shining bright blue light that was as bright blue as a calm summer’s sea itself.
‘Aghh’ Matt thought glad for the reprieve that the light granted him only slightly weirded out by its colour having long gotten used to going with the flow that was this planet's weirdness.

“So the sun’s blue huh?” Matt asked. 'Hugh never would have guessed that, I wonder why though, some kind of magnetic shield perhaps’
“No master, It isn't your just seeing it that way,” Bob said, “It’s caused by the energy spire surrounding the...”
“Stop…Please. Don’t tell me, I don’t want to know” Matt hurriedly said, stopping Bob before he could say too much.
“What? You don't?” Bob said, obviously referring to what had just transpired. “Why?”
“Because it’s a mystery, a mystery I intend to solve myself, if I can, that is,” Matt said, ’Status’ turning his sight inwards intending to have a quick look through his status page before doing anything else. But suddenly before he could do anything else, something happened as suddenly out of nowhere a woman fell out from the sky.
‘Huh, Here we go I guess.'
Ash’s pov:
‘Hmm, that’s new’ Ash thought stopping in his tracks, having finally caught up to Tam, having, for the last minute or so, since catching up to her, having watched as she continuingly fought, battleaxe in hand, battling spider after Gigantic spider after giant spider, swinging it over and over again at them,
Ash, surprised, shocked whenever so suddenly a gigantic-sized Giaspider, double, nay, triple the size of any of the others that he’d seen so far, appeared out of nowhere that was shortly joined by two of its shorter brethren.
‘What, a boss, how not that's, Impossible, Inspect’ Ash thought, shocked, watching as it slowly crawled forwards on its four hind legs, heading straight for Tam.
‘Inspect’ Ash thought, immediately activating his master class level 70 divination skill, Inspect, on the Gitiantic spider monster that seemed to be getting closer and closer to him by the seconds.

‘Weird’ Ash thought, slightly unnerved having not gotten so many unknowns in a description since, well who he didn’t know how long.
‘But not that it matters. Either way, it should be no trouble, My sneak skill’s just too high-levelled for it to possess the ability to detect my presence, much less hurt me. And if it does. Well, I'll just slaughter it like the low-level Mobs that it is.’, Ash confidently thought, confident in his ability to destroy this weakling spider, with his own bare hands if need be, taking another swig of his void cup that was filled to the brim with some of his most favourite of drinks, dwarven ale. With not a care in the world as he did so.
Jaret’s Pov:
Found her. Is safe to go in.Mainly monsters. Mana energy type. All low level.Between 1 and 10.No traps as far as I can see.
Said the message that Jaret had now already read twice over, reading it a third time just to be sure he hadn’t missed anything, being overly couscous never hurt anyone right.‘Properly not, this dungeon is way too new to kill any of us off’ Well except Alen course and they would be protecting the spoilt little brat every step of the way.
'Why did the Guild-master insist on him coming again. He could get himself killed. This is no place for a noob.', Jaret thought an ill-conceived look upon his face as he looked over the young broad-chested noob, still more slightly irked that they had been forced to bring the noob, whose goldern diamond-infused sward was as impractical as it was dangerous. Jaret, promising to himself that he would never let this sort of thing prosper in his outpost.
‘Huh, already calling it mine, getting a little ahead of myself I should think,’.
"Ok, everyone ready?" Jaret asked, turning to them both in turn, looking both over, abb’s, pitched ears and mage staff in hand, standing out perfectly well besides the armoured noob’s bony chin as they well should pushing himself out of his head for the moment as he did so, filled with the knowledge it did no good to dwell on what-ifs. ‘Better to focus on what I can control than what I can't’,
"Yep," They both said, nodding their heads, tightening belts and other items, readying themselves to follow him into the newly formed dungeon’s deep dark depths like they had done this a thousand times before, for which in abb’s case was certainly true.
“Ok?” Jaret said turning, looking over each of them one final time, "Do it?" He said. Giving Abb’s or Abb’sshmalon as she was known in her native tongue, one final nod.
"Yes sir," She said, taking out both her thin arms out, grabbing both his and young Alan's hand’s in hers, a bright light appearing over them all as she did so and then suddenly before Jaret knew it the light collapsed and they were somewhere else, deep in newly born dungeons deep dark depths.
“Everyone ok,” Abb’s asked, pale as a ghost as she looked at them both, the spell having seemingly taken a lot from her.
“Yes,” Jaret said, taking out Lightbringer, the twin-bladed broadsword that was gifted to him by the great goddess Ashira herself, suddenly moving some of his energy into the blades energy channels, activating the enchantment that gave it its name, quickly illuminating the area with light and turning his head left to right, looking around himself only to find that they were in deep chasm that was presumably part of the dungeon that they’d been searching for days on end. A dungeon that, if everything went right that is, would change Jarret's life forever for good, or at least Jaret hoped so.
“Right, take 5 and then we move,” He said, Jaret directing his words for more for Abb’s sake, the grey-haired girlish golden eared woman whom he, along with Ash and Tam, considered to be his closest of friends if not family, than for his or the young noob Alan’s.
“Hhh…Ok, hhhh….” Abb’s replied half heaving the words, as she spoke, quietly going to sit down on one of the less bloody corners of the stone blood-filled cavern, arms/legs crossed and closing her eyes, quietly meditating as to conserve what little energy she had left, as well using her passive aura cultivation skill to gather whatever little energy it could catch with the little time that was available to them Jaret figured.
Leaving her to it, Jaret set up position in front of one of the larger tunnels, where monsters were likely to emerge from.’If any are left of course.’, he thought, thinking the bloody slaughter being that Tam was even now on, if what she’d done so far was any induction, with entails, spider legs and other body parts spread across the gigantically open, small cavern floor.
‘Still best to be careful, carelessness can get people killed’, Jaret thought taking a position on the left side of the cave, indicating, with his hand to Alan, the young noob to do the same on the other side of the room, doing more out of the hope of keeping the boy distracted and out of the way than anything else, as if a monster were to approach the cavern he’d be less than useless.
‘And if he dies all the better...’
“Ok, five minutes are up,” Jaret said, quietly turning to face Alien before quickly turning his whole body to face Abbs. “Time up!” He shouted to her, screeching at his loudest volume.
“Ummm, come on Boss, another two minutes please...” Abbs said, opening her eyes and looking him directly in the eyes, yawning as she did so.
“No we’ve been here long enough, Lord knows what they’ve got up to,” Jaret said sighing with his hands knowing he’d been more than generous, having given her an extra twenty minutes already. “Now come on we’ve got to go,” he said turning, a slight sense of urgency rising in his eyes and feet as he turned, heading to places unknown.
“Surly…” Abb’s said seemingly intent on arguing only to stop, Jaret sending an intense look her way, and slowly arose from the dungeon's hard stone floor.
“SO..” Abb’s said, quickly catching up to him and going to speak.
“Yes?” Jarret said, wondering what she wanted.
“Do you know where little Tam Tam is yet?” Abb’s asked.
‘Huh“. No '' Jarte said quietly, shining inwards, laughing at her silly nickname for Tam. ‘Not that Tam’s any better, honestly those two need a room pronto’. Though who was he to judge? He'd spent four whole years pining after Gwen before finally manning the courage to ask her out on a date, and that was after 16 years of knowing her.
“So you don’t know where we're going?” She asked.
“No” ‘No, seem’s I don’t’, Jaret replied, slight irritation bubbling to the surface, having only realized this fact shortly before she had. “I’ll figure it out”
“You mean you’ll fly it by the seat of your pants as you did in that green dungeon,” She said. “What was its name? Agh yes I remember. The great tannery. That was fun”.
“That was one time” Abb’s angrily glaired.
“Yess. One time too many,” he muttered, unwisely speaking the last words out loud.
“Yes, but, but...” she said,
“But, nothing,” He said, cutting her off mid-speech. Abb’s giving him the look, the look of quiet contempt that she always seemed whenever she was angry and wanted to win an argument.
“No, no,” He said, holding firm. Abb's continually looking at him. Staring wide. The look in her eyes.
"Huh, Ok! Fine," Jaret sighed, finally giving in unable to hold out much longer. “, whatever, find them, but don’t use too much Mana you know we’ll probably need you later on”
'Sure." Abb's nodded, quickly closing her eyes and going into the usual trancelike state that was seemingly required to activate the skill that made pathfinders and, their more developed legendary cousins, Mapmakers, so valuable. Sense location.
