《Safe as Houses》“I’ve Seen…”

Walter swept poor Jesse into his arms. Shards of glistening cartilage hung obscenely from the destroyed throat as he sank his fangs into the gray skin of Jesse’s neck and sucked hard, even though blood now tasted like stale beer to him.
There was almost no blood in the mutilated neck. He picked up Jesse’s left arm and bit into that. There was a little more blood there, pooled, not driven by any heartbeat. He sucked desperately, not sure how to make a vampire.
He sat back, trying to think and only then did he remember Jeremy fighting for his life. Oh God, he was such an asshole, he hadn’t even atoned for his crimes by saving Jeremy’s life.
It was all quiet now; Jeremy must have fought them off. Good.
For a moment, he was sure Jeremy stood just behind him, grim eyes blazing, watching his movements.
Well, so be it. This would be his penance. If Jeremy wanted to kill him, he would have his chance.
The seconds were flying. He thought frantically back to the three vampires who had turned him. What had they done? They’d sunk sharp teeth into his wrists and neck and (he shivered with the memory) he’d felt a fog of confusion and despair push in through the wounds to replace the warm living blood.
That fog had swept him away and only Jesse’s love had brought him back.
Walter LaMont rocked back on his heels. “Oh Buttercup,” he moaned. “Is that the only way to save you? To do that to you?”
“You can save him.”
Walter jumped out of his skin. He turned wildly. Jeremy was standing just behind him, watching him intently.
“You can save him. I’ll tell you how.” Jeremy’s burning eyes never left his.
Walter, helpless on his knees, said weakly, “How?”
He’d forgotten that Jeremy had killed Jesse, that he himself had caused Jeremy’s brother to die. He was just a lonely old man. “How?” he begged.
“Go ahead and turn him. I’m sure you can.”
“But, but…”
“And then tomorrow morning,” Jeremy continued relentlessly, “get him out into the sun. The sunlight will do the rest. I know.”
As Walter cried with renewed hope and turned back to his beloved, he heard Jeremy say softly, “I’ve seen what sunlight does to a wounded vampire.”

Summoner's Journey
[Before you read - the story is officially dead. The reasons behind it are posted in the last chapter.] In a magic world on the verge of an industrial revolution, Ari Ragnarsson must uncover the truth behind his parents' disappearance. They were part of an organization known as the Order, which protects mankind from various threats - both human and supernatural. Now, after Ari's brands finally manifest, he leaves the safety of his village and travels to the continent. Strength is all that matters in this world and he must learn how to control his powers. There, he meets a man from another world, who's being hunted for merely existing. Their fates become intertwined, but not in a way either of them would appreciate. Author's note (contains minor non-story related spoilers about the MC and setting) This is a progression fantasy with LITRPG elements sprinkled on top. The main character is not a spellsword, but a summoner/support mage hybrid. Since he wasn't ambushed by a random god, there's no cheat item/spell and he has to rely on his skills and wits to survive in a world full of monsters. The story tries to show the moment when the old starts to be replaced by the new, with a healthy dose of magic and a little steampunk in the background. Also, it revolves around a party dynamic akin to RPG sessions. No health/mana bars. Numbers are secondary and the LITRPG elements focus more on classes/spells/runes and their evolutions. Tables are sparse at the beginning, but from chapter 7 onwards they appear more often. Still, I won't be copy-pasting the whole character sheet dozens of times per chapter.

Out of the Blue
Spring: the chrips of the birds, the blooming of the flowers, and the gentle patter of the rain. Ah, what a beautiful time of the year! When students look forward to the coming summer vacation, when lovers rejoice under the sprouting trees, and when monsters rampage across the planet, but of course this would be autumn in the southern hemisphere. Thus is the peaceful life of our protagonist shattered as game like elements and otherworldly denizens intrude upon an unsuspecting Earth. Armed with nothing but his modern sensibilities and urban constitution, he will have to face a world brimming with encounters - both monstrous and otherwise. For those who are confused, this is one of those RPG Apocalypse stories.

Re:Serpent, the Struggles of a 'Snake' to Survive and Evolve...
*Heyo, Evil Overlord here. As some may know, I am the main editor of VanZans, and his fiction, Those Who Aspire to Become Gods. If you do not know, check his work out and see for yourself. This is my first story to test my skills as a writer and a story teller. This may or may not be continued depending on my choice, and available time I have.*Hello, ghost audience, my name is Heibai. It stands for black and white in Chinese, and yes I am Asian, though I grew up in America. I was an orphan, now adopted into a rare family dojo in Chinatown in a certain state. Now I am reincarnated into a 'snake'...killed by a goddamn truck, conjured by fate's sick sense of entertainment, and died attempting to save my sister (she is not related by blood by the way) when I tried to shield her from harm, and here I am...in a new world, primitive, war-torn, and semi-corrupt. Disgusted by the contents of this fantasy world, I must survive and discover the truth to my sudden...rebirth...and find my sister if she is also here, human or not. My main goal of this story...is to fight on and learn as much as I can, and my secondary goal, to see if I can return home...human or NOT.*Might include blood and some gore
