《Combat Empire》Lost and Found

Sebastian turned to Emelie, who sat on the king size bed, pulling off her low heels. "Sorry about my little sister. She's beyond spoiled."
Emelie shrugged, readjusting her hair, letting it flow down her back. Sebastian wasn't afraid to admit his heart did a little flutter whenever she did that. Lucas probably would've rolled his eyes at the pointlessly passionate romance, though.
"She's just a child. I've heard worse." She said, her eyes closed, now unbuttoning her blouse.
"I didn't expect you to get here this early. Otherwise, I would've greeted you at the gate." Sebastian said, sitting on the bed as well.
"I didn't expect to get here early either." A brief smile appeared on her face.
The trip had taken about an hour long. However, when considering that the distance between the two places was 136.8km(85 mi), they were honestly very quick. It would've been impossible if not for the fact that they'd been driving using magically enhanced horses. Even with the breaks they took, they were still able to get there so quickly. This was also the reason that the bandits could attack them. They'd stopped to let the horses have a break.
"But well now I'm here", she finished, opening her eyes to smile at Sebastian, while her blouse slid off her body. In that moment, between the milky white skin of her cleavage now barely hidden by her white chemise, and the seductive smile she threw at him, he could hardly resist not going at it, right there.
It was the slip of the skirt that did it for him.
Lucas walked through the hallways, looking around. The mansion was simultaneously exactly how he'd remembered it and completely different.
Nothing about the mansion had actually changed. It was Lucas who was now seeing it with different eyes, literally. The difference between his soul sense and his physical eyes was staggering. Of course, he'd noticed this before. It was just even more apparent now that he was walking through these halls.
He'd still not found a way to separate his soul from his body like he'd been able to do as a fetus. If anything, it only got more difficult and painful to try.
His parents allowed him to roam around and explore parts of the mansion while they organized their suite. He was partially conflicted on living with his parents. On one hand, it meant less freedom. On the other, it usually meant more to do. It was painfully boring having nothing to do.
That's also why the first thing he was going to do was to find the library. Reading was hardly more interesting, but anything was better than nothing. Hopefully, he'd be so engrossed in his reading, he wouldn't come back to his room early enough to find his parents trying to give him a sibling.
The mansion was truly huge though. He had yet to find the library even after looking around for a while. To make matters worse, he'd only come across servants who gave him directions he could barely comprehend, instead of simply helping him to his destination. "Take two lefts, keep walking until the second intersection, go right, then go left and it should be the second room on the right" was about as helpful as simply ignoring him. How could you expect a full grown adult to keep up with those instructions, let alone a child?

He was about to circle back to his parent's room when he stumbled upon an open door. Curious, he peeked inside to see a room similar to his family's. The carpet, the walls, the woman pulling a man's underwear off, it was nearly identical.
Bored out of his mind from doing nothing but mindlessly searching, he decided to stay and watch for a bit. Very quickly, he noticed that the man wasn't doing anything. He couldn't really see a lot from his perspective at the door but the guy didn't move an inch. In fact, Lucas could actually hear deep snoring.
The woman, however, kept going. Lucas could hear her faintly talking.
"I can't believe the mistress is making me do this. At least she promised me enough money to start a new life after this mess." She grumbled.
'Mistress?' Lucas thought. A second later, he realized it wasn't that surprising considering the woman's attire. It was similar to the stereotypical French maid dress.
She got on top of the sleeping man, straddling him, lifting her dress, before beginning to remove it altogether. Once she finished, Lucas saw her take a couple of deep breaths.
Out of the corner of his eye, he saw an empty bottle of alcohol beside what looked like a pill bottle on the floor. That pretty much settled it in his mind.
"Hi", he said in his best innocent little kid voice. The woman turned like she'd just heard a gunshot and her face paled upon seeing the boy in the open door. Had she really forgotten to close the door?
She didn't recognize the kid but the fact she'd been seen at all spooked her. She immediately got off the sleeping man, putting everything back on in mere seconds before leaving. At least she could try again later. But she mentally berated herself. Had she really been careless enough to leave the door open?
Lucas kept his best curious kid face on until she left. He was about to close the door and leave as well when he heard a groan coming from the man on the bed.
"That was really the best they had? No magic awareness at all. And they thought they'd drug me with weak shit like that?" The man sat up, clicking his tongue. He got up, looking directly at Lucas. "Why'd you take so long, kid?"
The maid hadn't fully redressed him, only putting his underwear back on. Because of this, Lucas could see each scar on his tanned chest and abdomen. He had sizable arms and his abs were fairly visible while his chest was underdeveloped in comparison. His legs, though, were incredibly vascular and muscular in proportion.
He had messy blonde hair that went down to his shoulders, covering a good portion of his face. The little part of his face that Lucas could see, that being his chin, was covered in stubble.

"I know you're a lot more clever than you think you look. You were at the door, watching for a while before you decided to scare her. Don't try and play dumb", the man continued, hopping off the bed.
"Well, at least now I know one of those bitches has it out for me. Also that she's dumb enough to trust a maid to do it. And with some cheap shit at that." He thought out loud, scratching his ass. "The shit barely cost a hundred bazals."
He moved the hair around his face, and then looked down at Lucas, squinting. He had dark baggy eyes with a slender nose that was round at its end. Ironically, despite all his griping about the liquor being cheap, he looked like he was on a particularly bad hangover.
"I don't think I've ever seen you before", he said staring down at Lucas.
Lucas, however, was paying no attention to him. He'd taken a couple steps into the room when the man had started speaking to him, when he'd seen something glinting at him from the corner of his eye. Turning towards it, he saw a saber resting on the floor.
Suddenly, a strange feeling welled up in his stomach and he could feel the mana in his body stirring without any action from him. He'd taken a few steps towards it when the man stopped him, weakening the sudden trance.
"Who are you?" The man said, towering over Lucas.
Regaining his common sense, he bowed. "Sebastian's son, Lucas." The guy didn't seem too formal what with his cursing and rough appearance, so Lucas didn't try to be too formal either.
The man took a few seconds, scratching his chin before his eyes lit up in recognition. "Ah right, Seb. Yeah I think someone told me he had a kid, but you never showed up so I just assumed they were lying. Did he keep you in a closet or something?"
"No, I just lived with my mother", Lucas responded, slowly edging towards the sword.
"Riiiiight, the Moor chick or whatever her name was. Yeah she's pretty alright. Too bad she's from a lower household. By the way, my name is Batain."
"It's Manour", Lucas corrected, before feeling a hand on his shoulder, stopping him from moving.
"Yeah okay, next question. Why are you eyeing my sword so hard?"
Alarm bells went ringing in his his mind while his head seemed almost compelled to look up at Batain's face. The feeling of danger only intensified as he felt his blood run cold. After about a second, it stopped as Lucas' legs gave out and he collapsed on the floor.
'What kinda fuckup does that shit to a child? Hell, his own nephew, at that.' He gasped for air, mentally shouting. While it had only been a second, it felt as if each molecule of oxygen had been sucked out of his lungs.
He'd barely regained his breath when Batain spoke up again. "You aren't a child." Lucas' blood ran cold again at the sudden statement.
Batain put a pair of pants on, while continuing. "I don't know what your mom did while she was pregnant but you are way too smart to be just a child. Or maybe your dad.. nah", he finished, chuckling at the thought of his lame younger brother passing anything good onto his children.
'Can he read minds?' Lucas thought, but there was no visible change from Batain besides his continued laughter.
"You never answered my question, by the way." Batain said, after a couple of seconds.
"I just wanted to hold it." Lucas said, honestly. There was something about the living mess that was called Batain that made a shred of honesty surface.
Batain shrugged. "You should've just asked." He, then, walked over to the blade picking it up, before walking back to Lucas.
"Here", he said handing it to him. Once the blade reached Lucas' hand, runes suddenly started appearing all over it. Mana flooded from Lucas' body into the saber while the runes became brighter and brighter.
Batain's eyes widened in shock watching the whole affair. The only reason he'd given Lucas the saber was because he thought it'd be too heavy for him. "What the fuck?" He shouted, as Lucas himself, began to light up.
Lucas could barely see anything with all the light from his body and the blade blinding him. However, he could feel the blade in its entirety, each tiny bit of it. He could feel the energy rushing out of his body.
Suddenly, it all stopped and Lucas' body returned to normal. The saber, though, didn't. The white light coming off of it lessened but also solidified, making the blade look like someone had made a literal lightsaber. In addition, runes turned a bright purple.
Batain started grinning, watching the process. However, when the runes turned a bright red and the room started heating up, the smile of interest turned into one of anxiety. He grabbed towards the blade and that was the last thing Lucas saw before blacking out.

The Book of Rune
If you like moderately well-researched semi-medieval military logistics with some fantasy twists, and also conspiracy, and exploration, and violence, and maybe a dash of road movie, hey, Ruen just might be your thing. Plot-wise, basically there's a guy who got fired by Death, a kid with pyrotechnic tendencies, and a slave general who wouldn't mind retiring but ended up on a mass suicide mission. If you were looking for a less TL;DR version, a guy who got fired by Death meets a kid with pyrotechnic tendencies, and they try to get the guy un-fired while also trying to come to terms with death together (ooohhhh, look, I'm deep). Meanwhile a slave general does something stupid and ends up being sent on a suicide mission, and he tries to wreak havoc and save lives at the same time. The threads come together, I swear. This is a rough draft of a fantasy semi-book that I've had in the back of my head for some time. I've written a variety of short stories set in the world over the past three years, and I finally kicked myself into writing the actual story. Very much a slow work in progress. Occasional violence (okay, well, maybe more than occasional), occasional foul language.
