《The Red Snowman》The Unfinished Journal from the Land of the End

Yesterday, I saw a young girl who could give life to dolls.
Today, I saw a metal monstrosity that drilled my brothers to the walls with thousands of bolts. They didn't die, they awoke, living in their altered bodies.
Tomorrow, I saw soldiers in heavy, metal suits and their mechs, wandering through heavenly meadows. They've started building silos.
Yesterday, I've got my first alternator. Now, I know when there is an intruder in my mind.
Today, I was infected by barnacles. They grew on my body until my death.
Tomorrow, I was boarding amnesty.
Yesterday, my home was visited by the key-bearer. It stole my door, then escaped through them, like through a portal.
Tomorrow, I ate a fruit from a tree of giving. I died instantly, but my wish was granted. My head now hangs on the tree, like many other.
Yesterday, I was attacked by a gang of orphans with paper bags on their heads. I've died. They stole all my belongings.
Today, I was eaten by a tall, eyeless humanoid with a large fork.
Tomorrow, my plane flew over the howling forest. There were many yellow lights below, they were calling me. I don't remember how, but I've died.
Yesterday, I've allowed myself to become a host for a brain parasite. The world appears like a better, colorful place. The smells are more intensive, colors more vibrant and even rubbish tastes heavenly. I see no downsides.
Today, I've walked into an alleyway and simply disappeared into nothing. Forever.
Tomorrow, I didn't find a shelter for the night of absolute dark. My body was not found.
Yesterday, I was judged by the wandering arbiter and put into one of his many cages. I'll be kept in this prison, carried under his cloak, and be witness to his judgments until the end of time.

Today, I entered a multidimensional wardrobe. I've found myself in a power plant, where living people are used for energy. I've freed who I could.
Tomorrow, I've sold my organs and skins, for scrolls for spells and revolver ammunition.
Yesterday, I was hired as a mercenary, we will fight against a flood of bloodthirsty monstrosities until the dawn.
Today, my squad, and I, was killed just because our minds were thinking. I suspect it was a psychic attack.
Tomorrow, I was decapitated by a demon lady with four dragonfly wings and scythe arms. She moved faster than my eyes could ever see, even with all the cybernetics and arcane enchants.
Yesterday, I've visited a house in the middle of nowhere. A lone, elder lady lived there. She has made me scrambled eggs and told me some stories. Nothing explained how she has survived here for so long, but I didn't inquire any longer.
Today, I've prayed with the machines.
Tomorrow, I was staying at a glassy hotel on a mountainside. The blizzard outside was so pretty. The room was elegant and clean, but there were no visitors other than me and everything was operated by machines with no mind or soul.
Yesterday, I was in a small arctic village, where amidst the white snow, resided igloos in all colors known to man. We've hunted seals.
Today, I've encountered a glitch in the universe. My body was touched, then twisted beyond recognition.
Tomorrow, I had encountered plague-bearers. They were in their usual uniforms and gas masks. As always, a cloud of that stinking, deadly gas accompanied them. I've accepted my fate, I was quickly covered in tumors and died.
Yesterday, a tempest of steel razed an entire country.
Today, I was erased from existence again. This time, by a blue person with a strange glove.

Tomorrow, I've seen a device that duplicated an entire district, people included. Awkward.
Yesterday, I've watched my favorite stream, people being buried alive in coffins and awaiting their death. I've even found a channel with one of me.
Today, I've bought another newspaper that describes what is likely to happen tomorrow. It doesn't matter to me, tomorrow already happened, I've just like reading the old news.
Tomorrow, I met the lady in red. I've recognized her by her shawl. She passed without paying any attention to me. It seems like I'm another standard anomaly to her, unworthy of her effort. Good to know.
Yesterday, I've purchased some anti-anomalous slugs. They were working well, my other body didn't revive.
Today, I had met one of ten primordial beings. The black-lake elemental. It was gargantuan, reaching the cosmos, and made entirely of dense, icy, black water. One of its tentacles struck me, all of my bodies, across the entire universe and time, frozen and died.
Tomorrow, I will meet the monster.

The Oresteia (Modernized)
All three of the great Greek Tragedians have written plays about the bloody chain of murder and revenge within the royal family of Argos. Yet theirs is in fact not a story of tragedy, but rather one of redemption. As they move from darkness to light, from rage to self-governance, from primitive ritual to civilized institution, their spirit of struggle and regeneration becomes an everlasting song of celebration to be heard throughout the ages. Forming a discourse set against the emergence of Athenian democracy out of a period of chaos and destruction, the Orestian plays are compelling stories of the tensions between our obligations to our families and the laws that bind us together as a society. In the beginning, we witness how a king’s decision to sacrifice his daughter and turn the tide of war inflicts lasting damage on his family, culminating in a terrible act of retribution. In the aftermath of regicide, we behold how a son must set out to avenge his father’s death by committing a most egregious sin. In the end, the sinner is tormented by supernatural powers that can never be appeased, but ultimately finds redemption and ends the curse on his house once and for all. Woven through all of this is the story of a friendship so close that it elevates itself to brotherhood - Where the blood of the covenant is shown to be indeed thicker than the water of the womb. In this very brief twelve-chapter modern rendition of the Orestian plays, I have chosen to place my focus mainly on the lives of the characters Orestes and his best friend Pylades. The chapters, each around 2000-2500 words, are split up evenly between them in first-person narrative. I hope that you will come to enjoy reading this heartwarming story, but more importantly, that you see how the conflicts portrayed in the story, whether human or institutional, are still much very relevant to our societies today. Note on Sources: The details of this story is very loosely based on The Oresteia by Aeschylus. And I mean very loosely. Other sources that I referenced for detail and inspiration are Mythology by Edith Hamilton, Electra by Sophocles, and Iphigenia in Tauris by Euripides. You may also find that I have quoted some of these works, and others (such as Shelley's Ozymondaeus), without citations (average of 1-2 such quotes per chapter). I did this because I do not have the ability to describe certain scenes nearly as well as some of those writers. If you read a particularly beautiful piece of prose here, chances are it's probably stolen lol. Also, I wrote this during the summer between my high school senior year and my college freshmen year. It was the summer of 2020, and being quarantined apparently gets my creative side out lol.

It's Hard Being A Background Character
Just after being transmigrated into a world of immortal cultivation, Zhang Wei naively believed he'd struck gold! But who could blame him? And... he fulfilled all those criteria! Unfortunately, those wishful thoughts vanished after seeing his reflection in the water. No...it wasn't because his looks remained impressively unimpressive. It was due to the two words in block capitals that hovered just above his head: [BACKGROUND CHARACTER]
