Chapter 27
Twists and Turns
Nora’s part (lvl 61 assassin s)
I was pretty close to leveling up before killing the Tal soldier. So my level went up when I killed him. Maybe that’s why I killed without a reason? Nah, prob not. It’s probably just that he offended me and made me suffer. How dare they do that to a mighty assassin like me. Anyways, I don’t know how long till this Tal camp finds out about the spying. I gotta find a different identity. I forgot to tell you, the only reason that the first target still hasn’t alerted any of the Tal empire is because I made him unconscious and injured him to the point that somebody would have to find him and treat him before he could get up. I hid him in one of the bathroom cells and locked the door. Then I jumped out of it. It will take a long time for somebody to find him and treat his health problems. However, the problem is much more real this time. They might already have been alerted, though I don’t think that’s true. Not yet. Such a large army probably wouldn’t have given a voice for just a soldier of a lowly super class. They might listen if it’s the security related issues, but there are credibility issues and mmm… it would take a long time to be approved and stuff. I hope it takes a long long long time to get it approved.
Anyways, I am roaming around hallways right now, looking for a vulnerable victim. Too bad there is nobody that is going in the bathroom. Plus, it would be pretty risky to try to get in and expect nobody to be there except for the victim, because Ace is off to go see how much time I’ve got. Better to stay put and just explore around and see what I can do. I take note of the map of the structure inside my head. Hallways and rooms, saved in my memory. I’m not going to make any mistakes now. My life depends on it. I don’t want to die, even if it’s not my last life and can get a pd at a cheaper price. I am going to make a worth of my stupid act of sneaking into the enemy base. Gotta prove my instinctive move was the right move. So I keep roaming, mapping the enemy base, filling the blanks that I had the first time going around. Scribbling a plan then erasing it over and over with the map I have inside my head. Nothing is going to stop me from doing this, absolutely nothing. Not even the master class will stop me. I am going to punish the ones who deserve it. I am going to personally cut the necks of the person who shot those fireballs. To do that, I need to succeed in this mission. Ace gotta help me though. I hope he comes back on line fast. I need him to observe the enemy base right now. Plus, I need him to observe the bathrooms while I track my prey. I can’t risk running into a cluster of enemies and getting myself caught. I can’t risk it. So imma just wait till Ace comes back.

A while later, he comes and says in a relieved voice
“I think at least 6 hours, but it could take more than a day at longest”
That’s actually more than I thought. Thank goodness, the system is on my side. I give thanks to Ace about the information and come hopping back to my search. I don’t know what to do right now. I don’t need to find a victim to change the clothes into now I see I have time. I don’t have to worry about getting caught. That’s a good thing. Obviously, this is still a hard quest even without somebody warning them about my existence. Then something comes into my mind. A room I saw in the hallway a couple minutes ago. An announcement room. What if I turn on something that would highly irritate or illuse the enemy, then our allies come in and smash them all. This would be so epic to see. I turn back and start walking to that room.
“You got any ideas?” Ace asks me in an exciting and excited voice.
“Yeah, I think I got it.” I say in an exciting and excited voice.
“Alright, please elaborate a little further.” he says in a wondering, wonderful and wondrous voice.
“I am going to go to the broadcasting room” I reply to him in a voice that shows how cool I am.
“Oh, that’s such a good idea. I was thinking about that too, but I didn’t know what I would do if you found it.”
“Don’t you have a sound or skill that puts people into an illusion by mass?” I ask in a curious voice. It actually got me curious this time. He replies with a mmm… a skeptical voice?
“The mass illusionist skill is max illusionist super class skill, so I don’t have it, but I have a sound illusionist but I’m not sure if it’s going to work on broadcasts. It’s going through 2 transmitters after all, I’m not sure if the original analogue illusion wave will work in digital ones. Well, but guess we’re going to find that out soon, get to the broadcasting room as fast as possible, but be careful going there. It’s gotta have its guards up.”

“On it” I say while walking as fast as possible while trying to make the people not notice. A minute later, I see a room called the broadcasting room. I try to go in the door but
“No, don’t. I think it’s a trap of some sort.” Ace alerts me in an alerting voice.
“Why would they put a trap inside their own camp?”
“It might not be a trap for the people who need to be in there, but maybe it’s a trap for people who shouldn’t be going in there.” then he adds,
“It doesn’t even have a keypad or a lock, I think this means that something is inside to check whether or not you are qualified to get in.”
“Well… how are we going to get in then?”
“Wait a second, I’m going to spy inside, stay there.” I wait, and wait, and wait and more. It actually takes me longer than I thought. A long time later, 15 minutes to be exact, he comes back with a knowing voice.
“Yes, my guess was right, there are security passes inside the door. You would have been caught if you simply just opened the door.”
“Okay, so mmm… should we think of a plan?” I ask.
“Yes, that would be very needed for this plan to go right.” he answers right away. I start to think while walking around so that I wouldn’t be suspicious. This is actually so much more fun than just fighting. Maybe I should have gone spy instead of assassin. However, a spy can’t get chain lethality. So I would have to go assassin so that I can get faceless one hmm…
A couple minutes later, I managed to think of a plan. I tell Ace about the plan I thought of.
“So, I am going to wait until somebody goes in. Then I am going to use Asilent and the Lightless. You gotta lead me to where I should go just like you did the last time, then I’m going to kill everybody inside and start broadcasting.”
“Alright, so to prepare you, inside there is a low ultra class and several superclasses. You need to get their health very low on your first attack chance to have a chance at beating them. Else, there is no hope of you winning. Got it?” Ace says in a voice that is both prepared and ready.
“Let’s do this Nora, are you ready?”
“Yes, I am. We are going to make the Tal empire be sorry for the rest of their damn cursed life.” I reply with a mighty sound of the mighty Nora.
“Oh, by the way. I think there is a way to make the broadcast be heard in the other camps too. That would further weaken their defense.” Ace says.
“Wait, there is?”
“Yes, I saw the ultra class inside touching some stuff and then I noticed people from the other camp noticing the broadcast that was broadcasted in your camp, I mean camp you are in, no I mean camp you are spying in.”
“Ace… that was an awfully long and confusing sentence.”
“Oh, sorry. OOO there is somebody going your way, I think they are going to the broadcasting room. PREPARE!

Yin-Yang
Mages in North America seem to have it all – typically from well-off families, and able to manipulate their environment in ways most of the world would never believe. They don’t even have to bother with the mundane details of life like housework, thanks to their sensitives, who also make a useful source for extra magical energy. After all, sensitives have no use for it themselves, and if mages weren’t meant to make use of it, then the sensitives would obviously have some way to prevent that. That a mage can transform a sensitive physically, with no restrictions beyond overall mass and basic biological viability, whereas magic tends not to work directly on any other living thing, is only further proof. And look at the way they live on their own, barely a step above animals. It’s better for them to belong to a mage. Sensitives in North America live on the edge of society and survival – typically so paranoid they avoid hospitals and anything else that could lead to being tracked, many of them with little or no education and no legal identity or existence. Mages exist, and mages want sensitives for some reason, but no one ever comes back to explain what that reason is. Waiting every day for the hunters to notice them doesn’t lead to much motivation or hope for the future. And once they’re captured, they’re the property of someone with a terrifying amount of power over them. Anything is better than capture. Mages are born to be the masters, and sensitives are born victims. Or are they? Jax’s life is turned upside-down when he’s caught by the hunters and sold to a mage. Andreas is still mourning for his previous sensitive, though, unconsciously creating a difficult standard for Jax to live up to, all the more so while still struggling to come to terms with this new reality as Andreas’ sensitive. A runaway sensitive isn’t what Van expects at the mental health centre. Is this a hunter trap, set for him and the rest of the Donovan family by the hunters? The hunters would, after all, love to see them cross the line openly and finally do something they can be charged with. Either way, Miranda’s genuinely in trouble, and he can’t just abandon her to it. Snatching a sensitive out from under the hunters and hiding her is odd behaviour for a mage – but then, Catherine is an odd mage, living in disgrace in the old servants’ quarters of her grandmother’s house, responsible for cooking and housework. Lila owes Catherine her freedom; is there a way to help Catherine achieve her own, and at what price? Tension is building between traditionally-minded mages and those advocating change, and something has to break. *** Yin-Yang includes a small amount of profanity and no graphic sex or on-screen physical violence. However, sex and gender roles and relationships within the mage/sensitive subculture are non-traditional in mainstream North American terms. The key criterion in a primary relationship is not relative sex or gender, but the pairing of mage and sensitive; given the transformation of sensitives by their mages, physical sex is non-absolute for a sensitive, and gender identity can vary as in anyone else. *** *** The way mages treat sensitives is extremely varied and, in some cases is outright abusive. The struggle against that is pretty much the point of the book. It is NOT grimdark or misery-porn! However, if you will be triggered by this, please, don't read Yin-Yang! *** Complete stand-alone novel, 153K words! Also available on Scribble Hub and as a free ebook.
